Names & Games: Oakville nips Parkway South
A sampling of high school sports highlights from midweek events around the St. Louis region:
GIRLS SOFTBALL:
In a standoff between two of the state’s top softball teams, Oakville beat Parkway South 5-4 on a ninth-inning hit by senior Mackenzie Madigan.
Junior Julie Kernen scored on the game-winning hit by Madigan, who went 4 for 4 with a walk and had 2 RBIs. Kernen had 3 hits and scored 2 runs for Oakville (14-4); Sara Davison and Ashley Brentz each had 2 hits for South, also 14-4.
Webster Groves (16-3) built an 8-run lead and held off a 7th-inning rally for an 11-8 victory at Parkway Central. Webster freshman Emma Buckles drove in 3 and scored 3, and teammates Hannah Domino and Medora West each had 2 hits. Emily Greenstein went 4 for 4 with 3 RBIs for Central (9-7).
BOYS SOCCER:
Two goals by Nick Donley and one apiece by Jake Woltering and Hayden Moser lifted Duchesne to a 4-0 win over Kirkwood in the Guelker CYC Tournament.
Also in the tournament: DuBourg topped Gibault 2-1 on goals by Patrick McCaffrey and Mike Cebulski. . . . Waterloo beat Northwest 1-0 on a goal by Adam Borgschulte and a shutout by Evan Blechle.
GIRLS GOLF:
Edwardsville’s Caitlin Osborn shot 33 at Triple Lakes, but Althoff won the tri-meet with a 156 team score. Edwardsville scored 168 and Belleville West 181.
Stephanie Bauer’s 39 led Eureka (183) to a victory over Parkway Central (221) at Aberdeen.
Samantha Sproull shot 43 and Paige Boyer 46 as Kirkwood edged Webster Groves 196-198 at Riverside.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL:
Jenn Signorino (13 kills), Lauren Cliffe (11 kills) and Shannon Liebler (28 assists) were among the standouts as Mehlville defeated Notre Dame 25-19, 23-25, 25-17.
Laura King’s 26 assists helped Ursuline come back to beat Rosati-Kain 16-25, 25-18, 25-19. Lexi Linsenman (7 kills), Julia Greaves (6 kills) and Ashley Harvey (6 kills) also stood out for the winners.
