Name & Games: Soccer wins for Vianney, CBC
Goals by Andy Haar, Korey Gauvain and Adam McChesney boosted Vianney to a 3-0 soccer victory over St. Louis U. High and into first place in the Metro Catholic standings. Jon Roeckle had two assists and Matt McKenna earned the shutout for Vianney (12-2-3 overall, 2-0 league).
Elsewhere in local high school soccer Tuesday:
* CBC improved to 16-2-3 by slipping past DeSmet 1-0 on a goal by Sean Kuster and a shutout by Drew Duncan.
* Zach Meyer’s goal and a shutout by Ian McReynolds lifted McCluer North to a 1-0 victory over Hazelwood Central.
* Edwardsville got past Belleville West 2-1 on goals by Trevor Bickhaus and Sam Fink and two assists by Cameron Lauchner.
* Local bragging rights went to St. Charles West with a 2-0 win over St. Charles on goals by Kale Ward and Michael Morton.
Other highlights from Tuesday’s prep action:
* Summit and Hazelwood West avoided rainouts and advanced to Class 4 sectional play by winning district softball tournaments. Summit, which won its semifinal game vs. Eureka on forfeit because of a player eligibility issue, beat 2008 state runner-up Parkway South 2-1 on a 3-hitter by Caitlin Krebs.
Hazelwood West blew an early 6-2 lead, then rallied from a three-run deficit to beat McCluer North 10-9. Renee Terry went 4 for 4 and Hunter Bright drove in three runs for the winners.
* Three goals by Catherine Boyle and a shutout by Josie Mullen lifted St. Joseph’s Academy to a 3-1 victory over MICDS in field hockey.
* John Burroughs got two goals from MacKenzie Grady and one apiece by Sandra Yamada and Charlotte Martin in its 4-2 field hockey win over Nerinx Hall.
* Neal Eoloff won the 50 and 100 freestyle events as Webster Groves topped Clayton 97-73 in boys swimming.

Lindsey Eisenreich, who shot 75 at Aberdeen and led Summit to the team title. … Stephanie Bauer, whose 81 led runner-up Eureka. … Gina Della Camera (83) and Rachael Thompson (85), who led St. Joseph’s to the district title at Crystal Springs Quarry. … Kathey Back, whose 87 was low score for runner-up Parkway West.
Andrea Frankiewicz (78) and Hannah Schmitz (79), who led Ursuline to the district title at Crown Pointe. … Ashley Parker, who shot 82 for runner-up Nerinx Hall. … Fort Zumwalt South’s Madeline Conlin (78) and Howell Central’s Valerie Mielziner (79) had the low scores, but Lafayette won the team title at Innsbrook with Sarah Whitman shooting 81.
