Martha signs a book at Macy

Last Friday, I got a last-minute chance to interview Martha Stewart before she signed books at Macy’s West County Center store. Her PR person had warned me that I’d just have a few moments, and indeed, we talked for five minutes at most.

Then I did something that I almost never do: I asked her to sign a copy of the cookbook she was promoting, “Martha Stewart’s Cooking School,” with an inscription for my daughter. She did … and one of her assistants took a photo… and that would have been that, except that she put the picture on The Martha Blog.

Although Stewart didn’t spend much time in St. Louis, she got the chance to enjoy some good food. Tim Brennan, owner of Cravings in Webster Groves, brought sandwiches, yummy rosemary almonds and other snacks, plus provided big cookies that the store distributed to everyone who lined up for Stewart’s signature.

For dinner, one of Stewart’s assistants put in a call to Annie Gunn’s in Chesterfield, which cooked and packed up a feast for Stewart and her crew to enjoy on the plane ride home.
