An Open Letter to the Makers of Corn Pops
Dear Kellog’s Cereal People,
I don’t normally buy Corn Pops for my 9-year old but he caught me in a weak moment after a long week and I figured with the end of school and all, the kid deserved a treat. I didn’t even notice Harrison Ford (as Indiana Jones) pictured on the corner of the box, I honestly thought it was just that old cowboy that was always there.
Well, we got the box home and then the next day when it was time for breakfast I noticed Harrison Ford (as Indiana Jones) and also, who could not miss on the inside of the box (and on the top!) there was an Adventure Spoon!!! Wow, and it lights up!!! And there is a skull when it lights up!!!You know, that just made my son’s day and mine, too because I was pretty sure that if it did not have a television screen attached to it or was some sort of Japanese Anime it was not going to fly with him, ever.
Finally, after ogling over the coolness of the Adventure Spoon and how it lights up with the skull and stuff, my son noted, “and they gave me something I could use, too!” So, thank you Kellog’s Cereal People, until the Adventure Spoon came into our lives, I had really thought that simple pleasures were no longer appreciated by the under 12 crowd. Thank you too, for putting Harrison Ford on the front of the box, it is the side I got to look at while my sons tried to unlock the secret messages on the back of the box (yes, even the 11-year old tried those!)
Yours Truly, RL’E

Last year Rachelle L’Ecuyer and her sons visited a local video game store. It was an eye-opening experience. "There were two men and a woman working there, and they all had the same pasty white skin and the same (body) shape," she says. "You could tell which were the men because they had hair on their face, but they were all the same shape. And I thought, I don’t want my children to look like this." L’Ecuyer has devised a three-step plan to direct her sons’ attention away from video games.
hmmm, Harrison Ford on the box might be enough to tempt me into buying some Corn Pops for my kids …
