Underground hip hop act Earthworms release album tonight
St. Louis hasn’t been known for its underground hip hop, but local group Earthworms is laying down roots here with the release of its second album, “Bottle Full of Bourbon,” tonight at the Lucas School House. The disc is full of soulful, old school jams with singable choruses and great horn sections. The group uses live instruments onstage to accompany rappers Mathias, Kama and Black Patrick. It should be a kickin’ time at the Lucas. I read about a former St. Louisan making music history and I guess the man in question isn’t black enough for coverage there. I read about a fella named Walt Winston who had scored the Top 6 hits on Beta Records Folk music charts and his own hometown dont even want to acknowldege his record and his history! Every time I read this site or this paper its always about a black, hip hop artist who hasnt had any top ten hits let alone a #1 hit and Winston has had 7 of them in the last year all on Beta Records website or MP3.com. His little sister of the Ultra Violets hasnt had a #1 but I forgot shes white too. I guess, if an artist is white and achieves something the Post won’t touch it!
