New charity marries rock, hunger relief
We all could use another incentive to go out drinking, right?
A new group based in St. Louis makes it shockingly easy for you to continue supporting local music and night spots while helping to alleviate hunger in the area.
The group gives music fans “a chance to actually feel good about what they did last night,” according to the website (www.livefeed.org.)
The next Live Feed show is tomorrow night at the Bluebird, featuring, appropriately enough, the Feed, The Upright Animals, P.F.I.C and Esther Macomb, from NYC. Esther Macomb features Dave Freedman on guitar, who once played with Del Scorcho locally.
Live Feed works with bands and clubs by promoting their shows and encouraging them to donate part of their profits to local hunger relief. All you have to do is show up and rock out as per usual.
Founder Tom Robinson got the idea while living in Boston and attending a rock show that also doubled as a canned food drive.
“Live Feed’s goal is make sure no child goes to bed hungry in St. Louis,” said Robinson, noting that 85 percent of children in the St. Louis Public Schools qualify for assistance in breakfast and lunch programs. “It takes very little to make a difference and we’re trying to give a new group of people that opportunity.”
Robinson and his partner Amy Graham hope to reach a point where the group is self-sustaining and a benefit to all parties. That is to say, their publicity will bring more people into a club, thus offsetting the donations made to the organization.
