Here are some nuggets that passed over my desk in April.

Air “Moon Safari” (10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) (Astralwerks)

A re-issue of the groundbreaking electronic, clone-spawning band. At $20, it’s worth it since your 10-year-old CD must be scratched up by now. The DVD is more for hard-core fans, as the bulk of it is shots of the band and crew doing less than extraordinary things. It contains four music videos as well. The bonus CD has some cool remixes and live versions, such as “You Make It Easy” in LA’s KCRW studio in 1998.

Tokyo Police Club “Elephant Shell (Saddle Creek)

Consummate festival band releases more punchy, post-punk material to fuel the party.

Lyrics Born “Everywhere at Once” (Anti)

SF Bay Area hip-hop artist puts on an old school funk dance party.

Otis Redding “Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul” (Collector’s Edition) (Rhino)

Redding’s masterpiece is remastered with bonuses such as b-sides, alternative versions of the hits and amazing live tracks. Amazingly, the original was recorded in a 24-hour period at Stax.

Goldfrapp “Seventh Tree” (Mute)

Speaking of Air clones… This chilled out electronic pop CD+DVD combo is worth a look and listen.

Moby “Last Night” (Mute)

It’s upbeat all the way as Moby captures the NYC nightlife vibe in his sixth studio album. Guest vocalists MC Grandmaster Caz and Nigerian S.O. Simple make this a keeper.

Duke Spirit “Neptune” (SHANGRILA)

Brits that know how to rock, Motor City-style. Worthy garage R&B a la Detroit Cobras, but silkier.

Dark Meat “Universal Indians” (Vice)

Re-release of the 2006 breakout freak out from 17-piece Athens collective. For fans of !!!, Pogues and Flaming Lips. (Coming to the Bluebird on 5/21.)

Various Artists “What’s Happening in Pernambuco: New Sounds of the Brazilian Northeast” (Luaka Bop)

Cutting edge, electronic roots music from Northeast Brazil.

Dodos “Visiter” (French Kiss)

Vibrant San Fran band has put together a winner here, even if they don’t know how to spell. Acoustic duo hearkens Neutral Milk Hotel with fresh harmonies and percussion.

And from earlier this year…

Sons and Daughters “This Gift” (Domino)

A smashing good time on this third album from the Glasgow, Scotland quartet. Their trademark screaming guitars reign throughout, commanding attention.

Dengue Fever “Venus On Earth” (M80)

1960s-style Cambodian rock. The seductive grooves and sax and guitar/sitar lines will get into your head and camp there for a while. I don’t know what lead singer Chhom Nimol is singing about, but I don’t really care.
