Ska Shindig Saturday at Off Broadway
Matt Fernandes
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

KDHX DJ Paul Stark (“Ska’s The Limit” Fridays 8-10 pm) has curated another show set for this Saturday as part of his “Jumpstarting Ska’s Fourth Wave” series.

Stark’s 17th anniversary concert in February at the now smoke-free Off Broadway was a family free-for-all with kids as young as 13 and adults of all ages skankin’ it up. Expect more of the same Saturday.

The lineup includes Washington D.C.’s Eastern Standard Time , which has circled the globe sharing their blend of jazz, rocksteady, reggae, dub and soul. Chicago’s The Drastics are a nine-piece ensemble that swings from hip-hop to jazz to afrobeat to roots reggae. Local ska-rocksteady-reggae vet The Murder City Players are also on the bill.

Two newer Midwestern Ska bands making their St. Louis debuts are The Green Room Rockers (Lafayette, Ind.) and The Incredible Heat Machine (Lincoln, Neb.)

Spinning records between bands will be D.J. Chuck Wren, founder of Chicago’s Jump-Up Records.
