Bluegrass legend Charlie Louvin plays free show Friday
Gospel, country and bluegrass legend Charlie Louvin graces Webster Groves this Friday night. The Country Music Hall of Famer will play Gazebo Park in Webster Groves at 7 pm.
Louvin is best known for his steady melody singing in the Louvin Brothers duo of the 1950s and 1960s. Their hits included “Cash on the Barrelhead” and “When I Stop Dreaming.”
A tribute CD, “Livin, Lovin, Losin: The Songs of the Louvin Brothers” won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Country Album.
Charlie’s brother and harmonizer, Ira Louvin, died in 1965 in a car accident near Williamsburg, Mo., east of Jefferson City. He had been returning home to Alabama after performing in Kansas City.
