Tennessee’s Those Darlins liven up Off Broadway tonight
Matt Fernandes
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

I’m not sure if they’ll be wearing their daisy dukes in the dead of winter, but it’s all about the music right?

The female trio Those Darlins will make their second appearance here tonight when they headline a free show at the Off Broadway. They opened for O Death last year at the venue.

If you like traditional country (a la the Carter Family and Hank Williams) with a punk spirit, these ladies won’t disappoint.

The bandmembers all live together in Murfreesboro, Tenn., which they say can be a drag in terms of finding shows.

“I’m not a fan of the scene there,” said baritone ukulele player Nikki Darlin. “There used to be a lot more going on but it died down. There is pretty much no venues, so we rarely play there. We all live there together, though, like one big happy family.”

Nikki said the band journeys to Nashville often to gig and record their upcoming debut, which they are releasing on their own label this Summer.

A highlight in their young career was meeting country and bluegrass legend Charlie Louvin and playing at one of his record signings.

He signed a record release of a murder ballad for us, it was really fun,” said Nikki. “He’s a dirty old man, we loved him — he was great! Very funny guy.”
