Sonic Youth The Eternal (Matador)
(Playing under the St. Louis Arch July 17)
SY’s first album for Matador Records, this hard rocking LP ranks as one of their more inspired efforts in their 28 year career.

Black Eyed Peas The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) (Interscope)
Led by will.i.am’s production, the Black Eyed Peas move even farther away from hip-hop into the type of blandly inspirational dance-pop that has become ripe for advertising and marketing opportunities.

British Sea Power Man of Aran [CD/DVD] (Rough Trade)

With the main melody of Rock Music’s “The Great Skua” as its backbone, British Sea Power’s penchant for slow-building post-rock vistas and reverb-drenched bursts of guitar, trumpet, and violin has reached its logical crescendo.

Chickenfoot Chickenfoot (Ear)
Supergroup featuring Van Halen’s Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, guitar legend Joe Satriani, and drummer Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Rhett Miller Rhett Miller (Shout Factory)
Rhett Miller of the Old 97’s releases his fourth album.

Mos Def The Ecstatic (Downtown)
A mind-bending, low-key triumph, the kind of magnetic album that takes around a dozen spins to completely unpack.

The Dirty Projectors Bitte Orca
The follow-up to 2007’s critically acclaimed debut Rise Above.

Anti-Flag People or the Gun (Side One Dummy)
Punk Revival, Hardcore Punk

Busdriver Jhelli Beam (Anti)
Underground Rap

Just wanted to add that “Man of Aran” is all instrumental. As a longtime fan of BSP I just downloaded it immediately, and was a bit surprised. Still it’s very good.
