Rare Tortoise show tonight at Firebird

The Firebird comes through again as tonight they present the venerable post rock band Tortoise.
Formed in 1990, the Chicago quintet were way ahead of their time with their instrumental mix of jazz, dub, electronica, Krautrock and other sounds later embraced by acts under the indie umbrella.
This video, “Prepare Your Coffin,” is off their 2009 album, Beacons of Ancestorship. The LP represents a rejuvenation of the band’s sometimes languid sound, with beefed up funk groves and polyrhythmic percussion parts.
