And with the first pick, the Rams should take …

THE WATERCOOLER

QUESTION: After weeks of talking about it, the NFL draft finally begins tomorrow. Rather than predicting who the St. Louis Rams will take, I’d like you to put your GM hat on. If you were running the Rams draft, who would you take with the No. 2 pick and why?

JIM THOMAS

All signs point to the Rams taking a tackle. But Aaron Curry is the best player in the draft. The Wake Forest linebacker would bring attitude, leadership and charisma to a defense lacking in all of those areas. He’d be my pick.

BERNIE MIKLASZ
I would take USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, because he’s ideal to run the West Coast offense and he displays outstanding leadership qualities. He’s an ideal fit and the Rams can’t be sure they’ll have such an attractive option at QB in the 2010 Draft. In the end, though, the Rams will decide to make one more attempt at reviving Marc Bulger. And they’ll make the safer, more pragmatic choice by grabbing Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith.

BRYAN BURWELL
I would go offensive tackle, and I’d be happy with either Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe. I want to get massive up front to dominate games. I would probably go OT in second or third round, too. I want enormous folks whose entire families are big-boned too.

JEFF GORDON
Going against conventional wisdom, I would select Aaron Curry and stick him in the middle of that defense. The Rams have a woeful linebacker corps beyond Will Witherspoon. Steve Spagnuolo is a defensive-minded coach who knows how to maximize his talent on that side of the ball. Then I would take an offensive tackle with the second pick — and I would look to move up into the first round to get a little more quality there. There is risk in doing that, since the better tackles will leave the board. But it is a risk worth taking.

KATHLEEN NELSON
Eugene Monroe: I’ll confess that I haven’t watched film, but the scouts who have seem to give Monroe the edge as a pass blocker over Jason Smith. I’m sure either will develop into an anchor for the offensive line, but the recurring image of Marc Bulger on his back or side, writhing in pain, makes me think pass protection is a more urgent need. Just don’t expect either Monroe or Smith next year to be Orlando Pace in his prime.

GERRY FRALEY
USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, in a heartbeat. The Rams are not going to win with Marc Bulger. He has taken a horrific beating and is regressing. Bulger also lacks the aura of a big-time quarterback. No need to worry about that with Sanchez. He’s good and knows it, which is not all bad when it comes to a quarterback.

Curry…not the southwest Asian kind, either.

I like Gordo’s plan. Curry and then a tackle in the second. Move up to grab Britton if it isn’t too costly.

I think Crabtree in the first and the Tack from Oklahoma in the second.
Crabtree and Avery!! C’mon people, that would be awesome!

Not a big fan of Crabtree…he’s not as big as advertised at 6′1″ and his speed isn’t burner speed. We need defense and help on the line. Curry or Smith/Monroe…

If any of the new/noise about the Skins, Hawks and Browns wanting Sanchez are true(I’m somewhat skeptical), and if Stafford goes #1 then:

1) Trade down and still take a top 3 tackle AND a get a starter at DT, WR or LB

2) Take Sanchez and dangle his rights as trade bait to get the top 3 tackle and a starter at DT, WR or LB

If in fact Devaney sticks to his work and drafts the best player available regardless of positional need then by all accounts he should draft Curry!!!

Aaron Curry should be the pick. Our defense has been shredded over the past 4-5 years. We cannot stop basic running plays. Our pass rush is anemic at best. We need a good run-stopping, playmaking linebacker that
can shed blockers. He brings this and more.

He has all the tools to be an impact, every down player and leader.

We can draft offensive linemen or more defense in later rounds. The reality is the rebuilding will not be complete this year. We can target a top o-l
next year.

We can’t afford to pick a bust. Curry is simply a better value than the top tackles in this year’s draft.

Our entire defense rarely makes a needed stop. We have not had fundamentally sound tacklers since 2001 when the slide started.

Who the F are Kathleen Nelson and Gerry Fraley? Are they people interviewed from the street? Why do I care what they think?

Never have I seen the term “expert” thrown around so loosely. You write for a paper, which makes you an “expert”? Ok, fair enough. I read papers, therefore, I am an “expert” at critiquing newspaper writers.

I HOPE THE RAMS GO WITH AARON CURRY WITH THE FIRST PICK.THEN GO WITH AN “OT” IN THE SECOND.THEN- WR-DT-DB.THE RAMS NEED HELP EVERYWHERE BUT CURRY BRINGS TOUGHNESS THE RAMS NEED. THANKS-DAVID IN EUREKA , CA.

I’m hoping what the writer for the Sporting News wrote comes true. Smith in the 1st and Maclin in the 2nd round!

I certainly understand the merit of drafting an offensive lineman where the Rams are woefully thin; or, selecting Mark Sanchez with an eye on the future. But I just like what Aaron Curry would bring. I’m with Gordon; the Rams need someone who could be a force on that side of the ball. Add Curry to the likes of Chris Long, Adam Carriker, and a progressing secondary, you’re starting to put a defense together. Most, if not all of them appear to be good “character” players as well. You can always address the line with subsequent picks and/or free agency or trade.

I think they will have an opportunity to trade down. Any team who wants Sanchez will have to go through the Rams, especially Denver.

I have been telling anyone that will lessen this Sanchez kid reminds me of Joe” Cool” Montana the feet the awareness in the pocket pin point passes so guys can run after catches and most of all a natural leader of men. Original /new Owner / New coaching staff which will be running the west coast offence coupled with a new sheriff in town & his name is MARK SANCHEZ! To quote winning QB Super Bowl Champion Trent Dilfer of ESPN about whom the Rams should pick “It’s a No Brainier you go get your face of a franchise in Sanchez”. If we don’t than Seattle or San Francisco will and like Super Kurt in Arizona he will embarrass us (rams) twice a yr but instead he will do it over a career. Bottom line Bugler is a system QB Martz is long gone cut him June 1st or trade him draft day and let Boller run the team for now. If my team is to dumb 2 do the right thing, than I will. I will walk away from being a ram fan forever. Asking me to flush the 90’s away the move having suspect owner which happen to be female and the mismanagement of a 2 time league MVP in Kurt will simply be too much for 1 man to handle in this life time as well as the next.

I vote Curry! When you get a possible chance at getting a Lewis or Urlacher type LB for the next 8 to 10 years you grab it. It all starts with Defense. If you hold the other team from scoring you got a much better chance of winning. Back to Chuck Knox football, but let’s win!

3:03 pm April 24th, 2009

I know his status has slipped some, but I would seriously consider Andre Smith from Bama. Give Barron a year at LT to see if there’s something about him we missed, but Smith is a monster on that right side, and he could be the key to an equally monster running game. Smith, Karney, Jackson? Sweetness.

I would trade our qb,marc bulger to Cleveland for a 1rd and Quinn. Draft sanchez and trade him to Denver for 2-1rd and a 2nd in 2009. And 3rd in 2010 and sign boller to a 3yr deal. Draft from Cleveland A Curry at 5. And at 12 draft P. Harvin wr and at 18 J. Laurinaltis MLB Ohio st and at 35. E. Chung ss org and with Denver’s pick R. Brace dt BC.

3:23 pm April 24th, 2009

No tackle in this draft is worthy of the #2 overall pick. If the “can’t miss” franchise tackle was there to be had, of course we take him. But he simply doesn’t exist this year! That being said…I’m torn between Curry, Sanchez and Crabtree. Rams porous defense has severely lacked an impact player for quite some time now, so I’m picking Curry! We are in more desperate need of a RIGHT tackle at this point in time and a very serviceable one will still be available early in the 2nd round. By the time we have the respectable players in place at each position a couple of years down the road, Curry will just be hitting his prime and it will be a blast to watch him blowing people up!!!

P.S. It will just kill me to see the Seachickens or Whiners get Sanchez or Crabtree (they are welcome to have Smith or Monroe anyday). anyday).

3:42 pm April 24th, 2009

I agree with JT–a team that is this bad should take the BPA…and that is Curry. This draft is deep in tackles. Rams can get a good one at the top of the second round. As to WR or QB, I’d say we shouldn’t worry about that yet. Until the defense and offensive line are soldified, it doesn’t matter.

— Donsods
3:50 pm April 24th, 2009

Quarterback is not a smart move. Though Sanchez is likely to be an excellent QB in this league, our “O” line is in a purely experimental stage at the moment, and “chemistry” will take a while with all the new faces likely to be there. No need to subject a good to excellent rookie to the beating opposing defenses are likely to give him, while Bulger and Boller are used to it! Let them break in the new Spagnuolo line. Spending big on a rookie soon to be made into chopped liver doesn’t make sense. Get the good rookie in another year or two. Besides, who says Berlin or Otis can’t hack it??

I was previously for drafting Monroe or J. Smith, but Barron has performed well as a LEFT tackle, and we have Goldberg to back him up if problems arise. Goldberg has done that before, effectively. So I am now inclined to support drafting a dynamite MLB, or alternately a strong penetrating Def. tackle or Nose tackle with the first pick. Our defensive middle was Swiss Cheese last year. Whether that is Curry, B.J. Ragi, or Ziggy from Missouri, or somenone else entirely, our management probably knows who is likely to be effective. That leaves several probables for right tackle in the second or third round. With Barron at LT, we need an RT, but maybe Heerspink or one of the other “big bodies” currently on the roster will work out.

In my mind, receiver is not particularly a need. the new system will de-emphasize to some extent the role of receiver, and we do have Avery & Burton, both of whom are good, plus Stanley, Travis Brown, Nate Jones and Chad Lucas, one or two of whom are likely to show good chops in training camp. Wide receivers are frequently also available in the later rounds of the draft. And there is always the post draft free agent market. Hold your breath, we’re about to find out all about it!

Sanchez….this draft need to be shaken up just like the Rams!!! Shak’em Up Shak’em!! Go Rams.

— Peter
4:06 pm April 24th, 2009

No Tackle, especially Smith. See character issues, lack of drive/heart. Doesn’t fit our m.o.

If he’s still there, you go Curry. If not, Sanchez. Or, could go Sanchez no matter what, & hold him to see if anyone wants to trade w/us in order to acquire him. But, also need to make sure that if they do that & no one ends up trading w/us, that he’s the guy that they @ least initially want.

This draft is deep w/O-lineman & Tackles. Take Britton, Loadholt, etc., whoever in the 2nd. Take WR or DT in 3rd. Although, you know what, just take who you think the BPA is, no matter what position he plays, when it comes to your turn in the draft order.

— Mike S.
4:07 pm April 24th, 2009

And I meant Andre, not Jason. But Jason’s a converted TE, & that scares me, & Monroe’s had past knee injuries/surgeries, & that bothers me, too.

CURRY!!!

4:19 pm April 24th, 2009

I don’t want the Rams to repeat mistakes of the past. The last three years, with an offensive-minded coach, they drafted defense in the first round. It is time to wake up folks! Now that we FINALLY have a defensive minded coach (and it has been decades) I hear mostly talk about taking an offensive player?!!! Give the man one of his own to work with, the best overall player in the draft, AARON CURRY!

4:27 pm April 24th, 2009

I vote for Curry, but wouldn’t be disappointed if it’s Sanchez. I don’t feel either of these tackles are worth a number two spot. I want the number two to be a major play maker. We can get a tackle later.

Curry all the Way!!!!!!!

4:29 pm April 24th, 2009

The winning ways of the Rams left town with London Fletcher. Ever since then we have been humiliated, trampled, dis-respected and biotch slapped by every running back the Rams have come up against. Obviously defense is our biggest weakness. Grab Curry in a hurry! Raji is a psycho problem child. We already have one of those in Incognito. The team couldnt handle two. The two best OT’s will be gone by our next pick. So Pick the best all around impact player available in 2nd round.

— John Earl
4:30 pm April 24th, 2009

Since the Rams are not going to be competitive in 2009 - take Sanchez and see if you can get someone to deal for him (Skins, Denver, Jets). If you can make a deal then you can fill some holes by obtaining some extra picks.

If no deal then you develop him as the QB of the future to take over later in 2009 after Bulger starts the first few games and stinks up the joint.

4:33 pm April 24th, 2009

Some people say you would take a tackle if there was a “can’t miss one”. The thing to remember about all of these players is they can all be misses. I think the best way to build a team the fans will love is to build one that wins the battle at the line of scrimmage. I think only the 99 Rams could say that and last years was a s far from winning that battle as any team any any time. I think you have to build both lines until they can win the battle. Barron will be a free agent after this year so we really do need 2 OT’s. I agree with Mr. Burwell we should draft 2 OT’s early.

There are two problems with Curry. Firtst, he is not a middle linebacker and that is too high a pick for a position change. And two, NFL teams don’t pay linebackers $11 million a season. No one is saying he will step in and be the league’s best linebacker, but he would be the highest paid LB. Plus, it is not universally stated he is the best player in the draft. Many rankings have J. Smith and Stafford higher. There is no certainty which of these players will be better in the NFL.

I would be OK with Sanchez if they think he will be great. Quarterbacks do get paid that much. I think it means we are in for a long season again this year though, because he won’t help the team right away.

— Mike B
4:43 pm April 24th, 2009

Curry in the first round. We need a defense that can be productive and stop the run. Defense first, then the tackle or quarterback, then the wide out. A quarterback will take several years to develop. Bulger will last maybe a year, so we need to eventually get another quarterback.

— Ed Murphy
5:02 pm April 24th, 2009

Take Curry or Sanchez. We need to draft for the future, build the team and get the BPA; the tackles in this draft have not been evaluated by anyone as the next coming of Big O or anything, so don’t hand over that kind of $$ for them period. Look for more FA talent after the draft and work trade scenarios with 2010 picks if the price is right. Playoffs will have to wait people…we just can’t get there this year.

— big lou 88
5:05 pm April 24th, 2009

I have decided on Sanchez, Curry or trade down period!
let’s build for a Championship now so that we will actually have a good team in a year or two. Who is coming out next year at QB in the draft that will be as good as Sanchez???? We know that we will be looking for one next year as Marc Bulger will never “all of a sudden” turn into a franchise QB…Face it Ram fans. We need to make bold moves to show the team we are serious about getting better soon. An OT is not going to do anything except give Bulger a few more seconds to make a poor decision and we can find a good OT later or FA. Please get some you-know-whats and make us fans proud!!!

I would have to go with Curry or Sanchez. Our defense needs swagger and toughness, like the steelers D. A D that teams fear or know its going to be a tough day. The QB position, Bulger is horrible. Too afraid to throw the ball down field and doesn’t know how to avoid a sack by throwing the ball away. Plus with all those hits he has been taking as well is going to put him into early retirement. Bulger is not our answer at QB. We don’t need another bust like Alex Barron again either. So I would go with Curry or Sanchez.

5:20 pm April 24th, 2009

For everyone who says tackle think about this…. How many good free agent MLB are there? Brookes and that is it? Now how many good free agent tackles are there remaining… I know there are three but I can only remember John Runyan and Kawamie Harris… You can rent one of these guys for a year if you can’t draft a decent tackle in the second or third round which seems kind of far fetched because the analyst say the tackle position is really deep. Plus the analyst and scouts say the top ten tackles all have something wrong with them in terms of on field problems with attitude, blocking, etc…. Apparently next years draft is going to be better with the tackle position anyways…. So I say we have to draft the BPA which is CURRY! He is “Supposed” to be better than even a younger Brookes! Plus Brookes should be retiring next year along with some of the free agent tackles…. I’m still questioning whether we should be taking a tackle in the second as well…. I like Ziggy or an explosive wideout or possibly Freeman if he is there as well… I think that should be left more to draft day for a decision… But I stick with who the Rams should take with the first round pick… IF THEY CAN’T TRADE DOWN!!! Then that’s a whole different story!!!

— Dont Be Stupid
5:30 pm April 24th, 2009

the pick will be…Andre Smith OT Alabama. forget the stuff about leaving the draft and that. he has been a big time player for 3 years, was a great teammate and leader and never failed on the field. He had some problems figuring out how to do the business part of the game, but everyone forgets he was the best lineman in college football for 2 years and he fields a need. if they can trade down and get him, it would be the best of both worlds. Jason Smith has great potential but is a project, Monroe is not mean and can’t change the line of scrimmage. Smith is everythign they want in a tackle, physical, plays with passion, has long arms and bends at the knees. Andre Smith will be the pick.

— Dan in Haiti
5:37 pm April 24th, 2009

Mark my words: Sanchez will be a bust. Seattle can have him. If they don’t pick Aaron Curry or Jason Smith, I would be shocked. Personally, I’d go with Curry because he is the best player available and fills a huge need… what more can you ask for?

BEEN RAMS FAN FOR 40 YRS…WE NEED TO GO NEW!!. BULGER NICE GUY,HAPPY FEET
NOT HIS FAULT BUT… O LINE YOUNG ANYWAY, 500 NEXT YEAR “OK”
WHY PAY #2 MONEY TO #15 TALENT? RARELY GET MORE THAN 3 PLAYERS FROM A DRAFT ANYWAY SO WALK AWAY WITH 3 GOOD ONES: EITHER CURRY..BEST AVIL OLT…
WR OR SANCHEZ THEN OLT THEN WR….TRADE UP ALL PICKS TO GET 3 QUALITY GUYS
FRANKLY I’D GO QB.

— BIG SKY
6:04 pm April 24th, 2009

I am not sure why some of the ST. Louis sports writers pick Mark Sanchez. ST. Louis still is putting together the O Line and we do not have an effective back up running back if Jackson goes down. How can a rooking QB come in to the same situation Bulger is in an do better with a suspect O Line suspect running game if injury occurs. We don’t have the luxury to use the #2 pick to let a QB learn behind a starter. Follow the plan of Atlanta with Stafford to have an O Line who protected him and options for their running game.We have need positions right now at OL, WR, RB, and MLB. Draft a QB in the later rounds. If this were 2010-2011 season I would go for Sam Bradford. I don’t see this as the year of taking a QB at #2 unless you use him to trade.

6:18 pm April 24th, 2009

Any 2-14 team should not pigeonhole themselves into one position. Best player available is what they should take and that player is easily Curry. Take Curry in the first, Paul Kruger in the second and your linebacking corps is set. Smith and Monroe are flawed and Sanchez is overrated. Curry is the best player in the draft. Period.

— Youngblood 85
6:29 pm April 24th, 2009

Jeff Gordon nailed it: Curry. Yes we need an OT. Yes we will need a new QB. I don’t believe that either Smith or Monroe merit #2. Sanchez will sit on the bench for a year. But Curry has the potential to lift an entire D-Unit, which has lacked fire, spirit, and overall leadership since Aeneas Williams left.

— Deacon Stephen
6:30 pm April 24th, 2009

Should be Curry - Best bet - can’t afford to pay an OT that kind of money and not have him be a superstar.

— mike
6:31 pm April 24th, 2009

Aaron Curry. They need an impact player on defense. I think the defense is actually closer in competing than the current offensive weapons (or lack of)

— Jack
6:32 pm April 24th, 2009

How about this idea? Draft Sanchez, then check with Denver, Washington, and the Jets to see if they want to trade down and we get a couple of extra picks. If they don’t, then keep Sanchez. One year of watching Bulger, then he starts. Either way, you prevent Sanchez from playing for one of your divisional opponents (Seattle or San Francisco).

— JP
7:05 pm April 24th, 2009

I’ve gone back and forth on the idea of O-Lineman/Not an O-Lineman with the #2. If O. Pace is out there, sure. But, face it, he’s not. So, it seems to be a squandered pick if it goes that way.

I think what I’d like to see is Sanchez with the #2, forcing the Broncos, Jets, ’skins, et al, to bring picks if they really want him. Hefty picks - THIS draft. Broncos have the most to trade, with their booty from the Cutler deal, but something might be able to be worked out with the others also - I here Dan Snyder in DC is salivating over him.

If not, keep him. He’s perfect for our system, already has more “West Coast-O” experience (our new system) than Bulger OR anyone else at that position in the draft, and will be franchise player.

Next, (if Sanchez isn’t traded) I’d do whatever possible to move up to the bottom half of the 1st round and take Michael Oher. I’ve seen projections of anywhere from the 1st half to the top of 2nd round for him, and although if Monroe/Smith aren’t taken by the Rams, which will move him down possibly, I wouldn’t take a chance.

— Bildeaux
7:29 pm April 24th, 2009

SANCHEZ, SANCHEZ, SANCHEZ!!!!!!

8:05 pm April 24th, 2009

Curry no.1, da Okie Tackle no.2, trade up with middle round picks and a 2nd or 3rd next year to get another 2nd rounder, take another OLineman and after that TPA.I agree that you must build from the inside out, if Bulger stays on his back so will Sanchez with the current unit, good recipe to ruin a young QB, just ask Kurt and Marc, Martz wasting picks with his “Toys” is why we are where we are!

— Jim Norris
8:13 pm April 24th, 2009

Let’s get real - All these hypothetical trade downs are extremely unlikely to happen. Rams won’t get enough value to move out of the number two spot. Curry would be great but we don’t have that luxury. We need an OT - WE can draft for defense in the next two rounds. Offensive line is too important a position. An OT at number 2 will cut down on sacks and keep drives alive. It will help our running game. All this will keep our defense off the field. If we give Marc more time in the pocket and provide better up front blocking for Steven, our offense will flourish. In the second round, we take the best defensive player (except safety). We have a number of up and coming defenders. Go with the OT!

— Mike
9:43 pm April 24th, 2009

Take Curry! We don’t need another overpaid QB taking up space on the roster we need defence and Oline period. Unless we are trying to copy the “sucess” of the Lions.

— Neil Wilson
9:49 pm April 24th, 2009

I’d take Sanchez and force that idiot $chnieder (WAS)to trade his two picks for him. It sounds like Sanchez is the guy they covet. Then take Maclin and the LB Maualuga from USC, and hope Britton drops to 35.

— cnneb
10:10 pm April 24th, 2009

Drafting A Tackle shouldn’t be the priority, however drafting a run stuffing LB who consistantly makes tackles should be.

To me this pick is really a NO-Brainer, defineitly Aaron Curry, this guy will suddenly make the Rams Defense respectable again. We can get an offensive tackle in round 2 if we really.

— AnacortesRamFan
10:15 pm April 24th, 2009

Paying No. 2 pick money to a non-rushing linebacker is insanity. You’re talking $25-$30M guaranteed. Picking a quarterback is even more insane, considering Bulger’s contract and the abject lack of any offensive line whatsoever. Real smart Bernie. Take the best tackle available and don’t out-think yourselves.

— otto1967
10:19 pm April 24th, 2009

I know looking at the highlights and the statistics will not back this up, but I was really not that impressed with Mark Sanchez. I realize that he had a great Rose Bowl performance;however, there were times when I saw him play, and it just seemed like he just looked good because he played with the creme of the crop team. If the Rams were to take a QB in the first round, I would only feel safe with Stafford. I just have this instinct that Sanchez will be a bust in the NFL, but we will check again in three years. I really think the Rams should take Curry, and think about taking WR Ramses Barden from Cal-Poly in an early- to mid-round. He is a 6-6, physical receiver.

— Ed
10:28 pm April 24th, 2009

I’d like to fill a big need here (tackle). However, this is a year where the best tackles are late round talent at best. Therefore, I hope to trade down for a pick & take a tackle at value anyway. But, since trading the liability that #2 is (the NFL needs to change that) is mostly out of the question, I hope we take the best player in the draft & a contributor to the side that wins championships (Defense/Curry).

After Curry, take another 2nd round tackle & hope for the best w/ Barron at left.

— Chris Hosto
10:40 pm April 24th, 2009

OT’s and QB’s take too long to develop and far to often never live up to thier potential. Curry is, by far, our best shot at an immediate impact player. The draft is loaded with very good players but has very few excellent one’s. I say that our best option is to trade down to the middle of the first round, but if that doesn’t materialize, grab Mr. Crurry.

I think we should take Curry to help shore up the defense. Carriker and Long on the line with Witherspoon and Curry make for a nice core of under 30 players. Then try to get some help on the O-line. Fix the D, and the line and give Bulger one more year. If he’s fails again, we will be right there with a high pick next year for Bradford (or Snead/McCoy if mid first.) It is very hard for a QB to succeed with nothing around him, so build the team up first.

Everything points to Jason Smith from Baylor and I agree. Curry, Crabtree, Sanchez are all great potential players but the O line is key here and without it, I see Bulger on his back again. Granted, I feel Bulger has had it but taking a QB this high is risky. I don’t have much faith in Marc being here next year and that would give the nod in taking Sanchez. If the Rams can’t trade down, and it looks like that might be the case, Jason Smith all the way.

If you are a smart Gm you always take the B.P.A The reason teams need to draft for need is they have drafted for need in past drafts. It is like buying a house on emotion, you have just greatly increased your chances of failure. The draft is no sure thing and you can easily get a big fat zero. Take this yrs Ot’s smith and monroe are not worthy of the 2nd pick both money wise or talent wise. I heard a interview with curry this evening and he mentioned preferring to play in the middle to he can chase and influence side line to side line. Curry may well be the top overall player in this draft he is one player I would consider and also sanchez. Even drafting then trading sanchez if the price was steep enough other wise just keep him if as a team he seemed a good fit for the west coast offense. Next season will provide a better option for OT than this yr. Maybe use barron at LT this yr since he grades out better at LT than RT then get a true RT this yr in the 2nd rd. We will need more than one good draft to be a good team again. Daft tough coachable football players with good character not just work out warriors (V gholston) But for me in the end trade out of this pick if possible or take curry I just can not pass him up.

It is simple. Pick the guy with the fastest 40 yard dash time and use him to design a playbook built around trickery. I don’t see what al the debate is about.

ALERT !!! on yahoo webpage
Under NFL rules, the St. Louis Rams – who hold the No. 2 overall pick – now are allowed to negotiate with players on a contract in advance of Saturday’s draft. There were reports Friday night that the Rams intended to select USC quarterback Mark Sanchez with the pick and had given him a plane ticket to St. Louis, but two league sources said they considered the report a possible bluff by the Rams in hopes of getting a team such as the New York Jets or Washington Redskins to trade with them for the pick. Marc Bulger, who received a contract extension from St. Louis in 2007, is the Rams’ incumbent starting quarterback. Bulger has thrown 22 touchdowns and 28 interceptions over the past two seasons combined after tossing 28 touchdowns to just eight interceptions in 2007.The Rams.

Bottom Line Marc Bulger is a system QB Martz is gone and so has bulger’s production. Let’s draft the guy Bill walsh would get if he where still alive to run our west coast offence Mark Sanchez.Come on people its a NO BRAINIER our QB is AZ you saw pittsburgh and NY giants win super bowls on last sec TD PASSES. The man in the huddle is a reflection of ones team and to me Marc Bulger is a clown and this is why we went from the greats show on turf to a bunch of circus clowns and a laughing stock in the league.

I have been in favor of an OT all along, and I still am. The Rams are really thin at tackle. If Marc Bulger is on his back and Steven Jackson doesn’t have blocking few points will be scored, and the defense will be on the field the greater part of the game regardless of how good Aaron Curry is. I say draft Jason Smith, but I would be pleased with Eugene Monroe as well.

Having said all that, I wouldn’t be disappointed if they drafted Mark Sanchez, either for trading purposes or for keeps. As a matter of fact, I would be pretty excited if they did. But if they kept him, they would need to get the Best Available OT in the 2nd round. I think trying to trade up into the first to get and OT would cost us too many picks and the opportunity to get other good players.
