Sheri Coleman family awaits documents from Ron Coleman

An attorney representing Sheri Coleman’s family in a wrongful death case said he still hasn’t received discovery documents from Ronald Coleman, the father of Christopher Coleman.

“I’ll decide what to do after I get the discovery matter handled with Joyce Meyer Ministries,” said Jack Carey, the lawyer representing Sheri Coleman’s family.

The family successfully asked a judge to order the ministry to provide more than 400 pages of documents related to Chris Coleman’s work as its security chief. They haven’t asked for a similar order involving Ronald Coleman, who is a pastor in Chester, Ill.

Coleman is accused of strangling his wife, Sheri, and two young sons on May 5. Sheri Coleman’s family sued Chris Coleman for wrongful death shortly thereafter, and named both Joyce Meyer Ministries and Ronald Coleman as respondents in Discovery.

Carey said on Monday that Ronald Coleman had not provided the requested information.

On Monday, a judge ordered that the Joyce Meyer discovery documents are open and free from confidentiality. (The ministry had asked for the opposing attorneys to agree to confidentiality — and then to get their permission before filing any of the documents in court.) The documents are set to be released to Carey on Thursday. However, the documents will only be open to the public if either side files them in court — or publishes them in some other way (i.e. gives them to the media).

Carey hasn’t commented on whether he will make any of the documents public.

Ronald Coleman, who recently switched attorneys, didn’t have an attorney present on Monday.

Chris Coleman is represented by Clayton attorneys Bill and Art Margulis — in both the civil and criminal cases. A representative from the Margulis law firm attended the hearing on Monday.

A copy of the judge’s order can be found here

Does that mean that RC/Grace Church are in contempt of court?

It would seem that RC could be in contempt, but I suspect the attorney would have to push it with the judge. I suspect what will happen is Carey will request that the judge set a new deadline for the documents to be delivered.

Ron Coleman is not in contempt of court. That would only happen if a judge ordered him to provide the material — and he didn’t. A judge has ordered Joyce Meyer to provide information, not Ron Coleman.

Can this story be put up in a message board format?

Mr. Pistor, can something be done about the posters who are consistently off topic and spend a majority of their time either insulting each other or congratulating one another on their not-funny inside jokes. I would hope the boards could to be a place for discussion and information on the case, not all these sidebar discussions. Thank you for your great coverage.

Well, Carey and Mirabelli have made progress in wrangling one snake, now let’s hope they can get the other. Of course I don’t think any of the information revealed in this civil case will compare to the information that will come out at CC’s trial; straight from TL’s mouth!
