A man who stole more than $109,000 from his condo association was sentenced Tuesday to a year and a day in federal prison.

Geoffrey Truskowski, 35, was the volunteer property manager of the Traymoor 3 Condominium Association in the DeBaliviere Place neighborhood. Between 2006 and 2008, Truskowski diverted money from the association for his personal expenses, according to court testimony and documents.

Lawyer Ken Schwartz argued for probation at Tuesday’s sentencing hearing in federal court in St. Louis, saying Truskowski could more easily repay the money that way.

But Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Jensen responded that Truskowski had been indicted in April and had seemingly not made any effort at repayment since then.

U.S. District Judge Catherine Perry then sentenced Truskowski to a year and a day in prison and ordered him to pay $109,932 in restitution.

Truskowski runs his own IT firm and now lives in Pacific.

Steal $300,000 from the public school system and get probation, but steal from people in a private association with a treasurer that is suppose to be watching this guy and get 1 year. I am seriously thinking about not ever paying taxes again. What is the point?

Nrthsdr34, are you saying it’s okay to steal as long as it’s not from public funds? It’s never okay to steal! You’re right that probation was too light a punishment for that crime, but that is a completely separate situation from this one. The association members trusted this man with their condominium assessments and he violated that trust by stealing their hard-earned money. Moreover, the association may not even have a treasurer if it’s not mandated in their by-laws, so you shouldn’t just assume a treasurer’s negligence is at fault.

Could not have happened to a better guy. This loser was a pompous, rude, condescending, jerk. He was a pain in the rear to deal with. Still waiting for my special assessment reimbursement. Don’t forget your lube!

I think this kind of person should be taught a lesson for doing this. He should be punished very hardly ,.

Doesn’t a condo association have a board which oversees it expenditures?
Doesn’t a condo association have an accountant?

Sounds like the condo owners need to go after the board and accountant as accomplices since neither caught him..
