Here’s a guy who understands self-marketing

From what I’ve been told about landing new job, self-marketing — or branding — is considered one of the better ways to differentiate yourself from the unemployed masses.

Well, there’s separating yourself from the pack and there’s Miel Van Opstal, Belgian “technology evangelist” and the brains behind a flambouyant, flagrant and highly entertaining bid to land himself a new job. .

The “shameless self-promotion” comes with an offer most businesses would find hard to refuse: “To prove that I’m the guy you’re looking for, I’ll come to work for you ONE DAY FOR FREE just to show you I’m worth it. I mean business. At the end of the day, you and I sit together and we talk it through. Yes or No. Simple as that. It’s no joke!

Good stuff.

Yes, that’s good stuff. I am in for that too. I have been passed over by the younger, less seasoned and feel I have many, many years left to serve and provide quality, zero defect products to a company willing to take a chance on me. All I want is a chance to prove myself and the rest will be done. This guy has a good idea here.

Just think: If everyone did this companies wouldn’t have to pay employees at all.

I like the creativity but there’s probably a better ploy here. This comes off a bit cheesey and needs more substance in terms of what you might do for them. It’s easier said than done for an employer to take this on even for a day. Perhaps you could offer to do an important project or something. At the end of that time, they can pay you a small stipend or hire you. This one requires more thinking.

I send video resumes that seem to work for me.

If you do one though, it has to be very professional. I do like doing such things that stand out so you might consider me cheesey. I would like to hear more on this discussion.
