Weekend Watch: Roundball bonanza
Oblivious to the happenings with the WorldWide Leader in Sports — I’ve discovered I’m a presidential campaign junkie — BracketBuster games are all over TV this weekend. STL Sports Nation’s Blog Roll Honoree Kyle Whelliston, he of the Basketball State and Mid-Majority sites you see with every post, examines this weekend’s make-it-or-break-it matchups on ESPN.com.
In recent years, The Valley and BracketBuster games have been synonymous and this season is no exception. Count ‘em: there are five, yes half, of the MVC’s best in showdown games.
The Drake Bulldogs, No. 16 in the AP rankings and Missouri Valley’s standard-bearer this season, get the high-profile treatment with a road contest against Butler University. Tip-off is at 4 p.m Saturday on The Deuce, ESPN2. The fellow Bulldogs are the country’s No. 8 team. Illinois State, SIU, Bradley and Creighton round out the conference’s representation.
After that, we have Saturday hardwood games for Mizzou vs. Colorado (7 p.m., FSN Midwest), Illinois at Michigan (3 p.m., Big Ten Network) and SLU at Charlotte (6 p.m., KPLR-CW11). Sunday closes out the weekend of home teams in action with the Blues at Phoenix (7 p.m., FSN Midwest).
