Weekend Watch: In the shadow of the Valley

All the big-name men’s basketball conference tournaments don’t get under way until next week, leaving the Missouri Valley Conference’s Arch Madness to stand alone in this weekend’s tourneys.

Day 2 has been under way since noon Friday when Indiana State had the unfortunate draw of No. 1 seed Drake in the quarterfinals. Final score: Drake 68, Indiana St. 46. Creighton and Bradley will finish out the day’s games, with Missouri State-Illinois State (6:05 p.m.) and SIUC-Northern Iowa (8:35 p.m.) closing out Friday’s tourney action. FSN Midwest carries the Friday-Saturday games with the MVC Finals picked up by CBS (KMOV-Ch. 4).

The rest of the men’s college basketball trio hits the hardwoods Saturday. Mizzou travels to Oklahoma for a 2:30 p.m. game (ABC, KDNL-Ch. 30), SLU is on the road against Duquense (KPLR-CW11) for a 3 p.m. contest and the Illini host Minnesota (Big Ten Network) at Assembly starting at noon.

For those undaunted by the start of daylight saving time (2 a.m. Sunday), the Blues have a West Coast game against the Canucks in Vancouver. Ch. 11 also gets this game, with the puck dropping at 9 p.m. St. Louis time.

Don’t forget to catch the Cards radio broadcasts at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday (vs. LA Dodgers) and Sunday (at Atlanta) on The Big 550 (KTRS).

As always, check out the Weekend Sports On The Air listings from the Post-Dispatch for complete sports broadcast information in the Capital City. Until next week…
