Dear GM and Chrysler: Here’s what you should do…

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

GM and Chrysler are reacting with shock today to reports that the White House doesn’t like their restructuring plans.

GM chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner has been forced to resign, and Chrysler is apparently being given 30 days to complete its partnership with Fiat — or else.

Bankruptcy is looking more likely. There’s already been lots of discussion of eliminating whole product lines. Financing problems remain. So what, TOTDers, would you tell these troubled car companies to do? Can they save th emselves, and how should they go about it?

Senator’s advice to AIG executives: What do you think?

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

If there’s one outfit you might be a little embarrassed to work for these days, it would be AIG. On the heels of taking a $170 billion (with a big, big, B) bailout from the government, the company plans to hand out $165 million in bonuses to executives.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

On the drive to work this morning, the odometer on my 2000 Ford Explorer hit the 160,000 mile mark right about the time an analyst on the radio was talking about the government bailout for automakers.

Earlier this week, we heard the General Motors would need as much as $30 billion or so from the government. Chrysler wants another $4 or $5 billion. Ford, thus far, has said thanks but no thanks to government aid.

Since I began buying and paying for my own vehicles, I’ve bought three used vehicles (not counting the car our daughter drives) and three brand new ones. One was a…

The banks will be getting billions, and we’ll get….?

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

So the Treasury Secretary went to Washington on Tuesday and talked about a plan to send as much as $2 trillion through the banking system.

Today, the bankers are in Washington trying to defend how they’ve used the $700 billion they already got.

Good luck with that. A lot of people across America are incensed by stories about fat bonuses, redecorated offices and an atittude that seems to say “trust us, really” when we’ve been given no real reason to do so.

Coupled with images like this one:

No, it’s not looking like anyone’s too happy with this banking bailout — except maybe…
