Dear GM and Chrysler: Here’s what you should do…

GM and Chrysler are reacting with shock today to reports that the White House doesn’t like their restructuring plans.

 GM chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner has been forced to resign, and Chrysler is apparently being given 30 days to complete its partnership with Fiat — or else.

Bankruptcy is looking more likely. There’s already been lots of discussion of eliminating whole product lines. Financing problems remain. So what, TOTDers, would you tell these troubled car companies to do? Can they save th emselves, and how should they go about it?

Celebrating — or not — on Presidents’ Day

So here we are on the 3rd Monday of February ‘celebrating’ another Presidents’ Day. Right.

 The current president, Barack Obama, came to Illinois last week for the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s actual birthday. He and George Washington share the honors today, with both of them having February birthdays. And of course, our own newspaper and all the TV stations have run plenty of ads for all those great Presidents’ Day sales. What better way to  honor the leaders of our country than by springing for a new set of sheets, or a nice spring jacket?

Michelle Obama’s goal was to show Barack as ‘one of us.’ Did it work?

Michelle Obama is speaking at the Democratic National Convention right now, talking about her love for her husband, her daughters, her family. The AP said her job was to show Barack Obama’s personal side.

The media has written at length about Obama as the product of an interracial marriage, how he grew up without a father, how he took a job as a community organizer in Chicago.
