Contentious town halls and forums notwithstanding, it’s probably fairly safe to say that most Americans would agree there are problems with our health care system.
President Barack Obama will take on some of the critics of his plans to revamp the system today in some town hall meetings. It seems that behavior at the President’s forums has been better than the behavior at some members’ of Congress forums; could the Secret Service presence have something to do with that?

The case of a school strip-searching a 13-year-old girl after getting a tip she had prescription-strength ibuprofen on her wound up before the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Schools have the right, and the duty, to make themselves safe. We send our children there for seven or eight hours a day, roughly 180 days a year. Some schools use metal detectors; some use drug-sniffing dogs. Many, if not most, have students sign ‘contracts’ that if they participate in extra-curricular activities, they are held to a certain standard of conduct. At least, that’s the case at the school my teenagers attend.

Scary statistics are out today from a new study that says medicine mix-ups harm about one out of every 15 hospitalized children.
As a parent, I know when my son was hospitalized for surgeries four different times I stayed by his side around-the-clock. I kept as close an eye on him as possible, watching for signs of pain, of fever, of hunger, of thirst, of boredom. (Boredom and pain tied as the biggest threat.)
