Would you follow theater chain’s ‘no outside food’ rule?

We are about to begin one of the year’s two big movie ’seasons,’ if you will — the holiday releases. The moviemakers figure people are taking time off and going out, so they’ll also hit the local movie house — just like they do during the summer blockbuster season.

With that in mind, Kansas City-based AMC theaters is laying down its new law. It will no longer allow people to bring in outside food. A company spokesman said the rule is consistent with other entertainment venues.

Video rental stores like Hollywood are closing in the face of increased competition from Netflix, availability of movies streamed directly to laptops and a coming change in TV format. What will this technological shift mean for consumers.

While video stores have not disappeared completely, the surviving stores are struggling to compete in the era of Netflix, computer downloads and inexpensive retail sales.
