Cyber-Monday: how much truth, how much hype?

If we believe the hype, many of us will be doing some stealth shopping online today instead of working on those balance sheets and quarterly projects.

Today is Cyber Monday, we’re told, when a lot of Americans continue (or maybe start) their Christmas shopping with some online deals.

Some retailers offer special deals — free shipping, 20 percent off  your order, and the like. My email inbox had at least four separate offers this morning as I did a quick scan on my phone before pulling out of the garage.

But somehow, many of us probably feel that Cyber Monday is a lot like Black…

Have you been the target of Internet rage?

Spend any time online and you are destined to enounter hostility, directed at you or others. According to a story in Tuesday’s Post-Dispatch by reporter Tim Barker, the information superhighway is clogged with a digital version of road rage. Short tempers. Rude gestures. Obscenities. All bubbling under the surface waiting for an excuse to erupt.

The digital world is a place where everyone is equal. It strips away inhibition, allowing the shy and introverted to jump into conversations and situations they’d run from in the real world.
