Hey, everybody! It’s Haiku Friday!!!!
I know what you’re thinking. I’ve got a whole extra hour to kill this weekend, with nothing to do.
Never fear. We’re giving you another chance to exercise your poetic license and distill a recent news story into haiku. You know the rules — three lines, with 5 syllables, then 7, then 5 more. Read them aloud to make sure you aren’t disqualified.
And please, no wagering.
Here are some examples to prime your poetic pump:
Who can keep things straight?
Springing forward, falling back.
Clocks blink: “12:00! 12:00! 12:00!”
————
Candidates abound.
One year ’til Election Day.
Can’t we just vote now?
————–
Continuous flow?
Highway 40 sure could use
Traffic news like that.

For over a year
They have searched for dear Mattie
Stolen in St. Louis!
see ya Saturday
Enormous award
Crazy nutters are punished
God really hates Phelps
*****
The perfect season
Still a possibility
The Rams have a goal
*****
Highway is closing.
But some people don’t know this?
The stupid! It burns!
*****
Diplomats whining
“Iraq is deadly,” they say
No sympathy here
*****
The Fed lowers rates
Causes uplift in markets
Lasts until today
*****
City of St. George
Corrupt cops; pedo mayor
Disincorporate!
I’m flattered you mock
my “work”, but at least I know
It’s five-seven-five
This November 5th
rEVOLution is the name
Paulers’ donations
Crystal City splits
backroom dealings raise eyebrows
a smelter pollutes
Most bloggers poke fun
St. Louis has a complex
It’s just a slogan
They wear no seatbelt
Run a background check on them
Now deport the crook
Dumbledore is gay?
oh my heavens! what to do?
get a life, people
Those darn gas prices
Getting higher and higher
Raised in dead of night
Elvis is alive?
Wright City museum is not
Thankyouverymuch
Tube writers on strike?
Leno, Letterman, Conan
Must fend for themselves
(Correction to #8b):
Elvis is alive?
Not Wright City museum
Thankyouverymuch
Bush keeps telling lies
Ambassadors won’t go now
How many more dead?
Elvis is still dead
Wright City figures it out
Does anyone care?
Clinton or Barack?
Neither candidate can win
Things will stay hopeless
Larry Craig is hosed
On the pot? He’s gone to pot
Flushed his future down
Cards have new G.M.
Lamping and DeWitt smiling
I still don’t trust them
Water running out
Tennessee town has dried up
I wish we could help
Bush waving his sword
Now Iran the newest foe
Sound familiar?
Home loans in panic
Shyster lenders’ jig is up
Why are we so dumb?
Mozeliak rules,
Cardinals begin anew
Cards will reign supreme!!
A chill is in the air
Multi-colored leaves are falling
Time to kill some deer
Bush Bush spank his tush
Cheney too dey bad voodoo
Karma is mocking
We bake God’s green earth,
Will leaves ever fall again?
At long last, they have.
Response Repeaters
Post at times all day and night
Need to get a life!
