Blunt opts against re-election: Good riddance, or bad move?

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt says he will not seek re-election for a second term. According to the story we’ve prepared for STLtoday:

Blunt released a TV address “announcing that having achieved virtually everything he set out to ahe set out to accomplish when he ran for governor he will not seek a second term.”

Will you be sorry to see Blunt go when his term expires? Or are you pleased to know he won’t be back? Is this the end for Blunt’s political career or is he destined for bigger things? And if that’s what you think, where do you think he’s headed?

NOTE: Should have updated this earlier. Here’s a link to Wednesday’s story after Blunt’s news conference.

Also, here’s Blunt’s announcement as seen on YouTube.

What a bunch of losers! I have never seen so many people standing there with their hand out looking to take money from other taxpayers to pay for your stuff!

This is the exact reason they need to teach economics in school. In order to pay for all these hand-out programs you have to take money from other areas. Many of us who do not want to live off of someone else have a tough enough time paying for our stuff and then you want us to pay for yours.

So, do you prefer communism or socialism? Obviously this is exactly where we are headed.

Personally, I don’t blame Blunt for leaving. After hearing all the whining by voters like you I think I would take a hike too. I am not a Blunt fan but for other reasons that yours. Your federal, state, county, and city governments have become way too big. Then, we have you losers with your hand out stealing from each part of the government. Remember, the government gets the money from someone one way or another. This is exactly why the government school system is a complete failure.

My hope is for a Governor and President with real balls that will look so many of you in the eye and tell you to dig deep and pay for your own stuff and stop asking everyone else to pay. It’s time to pay for your own health care. Perhaps you can take those cell phones back or take those big screens back. Whatever the case, it is your responsibility.

Grow up!

I was so excited to hear the news. It absolutely made my day. Good riddance, Matt!

Maybe Blunt should have cut the internet access at the state hospitals. Then we wouldn’t be subjected to all of the nuts posting on this blog.

I have never seen so many people advocating government generousity with tax money.

Can someone please tell me when it became government’s responsibility to provide for everyone?

Good Job Blunt!!!!! If you can piss off all the idiots and lowlifes in St. Louis, you have done a fabulous job in my book.

What a relief!!!!! Could we really take another term of this kind of nonsense???? This man and his Republican cronies in Jefferson City have almost destroyed every good thing working people in this state had going for them. Just like the Bush Regime they have managed to set everyone back at least 50 YEARS!!!! Our children and grandchildren are screwed. Lord forbid that he’s going to be appointed to anything else that he could destroy like John Ashcroft did to our civil liberties. Lets just hope people wake up and stop voting for puppets of the corporations and oil companies.

GOOD RIDDANCE! Blunt accomplished his objectives alright! Running the state of Mo right to the ground with NO REGARDS to others. Now he is caught up in MORE scandal. Must be some kind of misconduct, unbecoming of a Governor. He certainly isn’t one to give good speeches, but I think this one he gives TODAY will be the BEST speech that he has ever given! The only thing that I supported this guy on is my right to smoke a cigarette

Good riddance. Maybe now we can get some anti-smoking laws passed in this state.

As a Republican, I had planned on voting for Nixon anyway. He’s done more with the AG’s office than the Governor has done with his. Good riddance..

Since he’s a co-chair on the Romney Campaign, I bet he’s hoping romney will win the presidency and that he will get a spot in the cabinet.

Wow. Lots of emotion here. I’m curious what the response in KC is today. I’m pleased he is not going to run again.

Dear Superdave,
It’s not a matter of having your hand out when you get hurt doing a job for your employer who is still making a profit, even after he’s deducted all of the costs of doing business. Unfortunately labor is a little “c” in the algebra equation that business uses to justify their profits. Some SOCIAL responsibility should be taught in economics and business courses instead of just how to boost the bottom line. Yes, the whole “society should flourish” as the Greek root of the word economics means. Read some Aristotle Dave!!!! Matt Blunt and his daddy are just puppets for corporate America, just like King George and his daddy!!!!!
