Blunt opts against re-election: Good riddance, or bad move?
Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt says he will not seek re-election for a second term. According to the story we’ve prepared for STLtoday:
Blunt released a TV address “announcing that having achieved virtually everything he set out to ahe set out to accomplish when he ran for governor he will not seek a second term.”
Will you be sorry to see Blunt go when his term expires? Or are you pleased to know he won’t be back? Is this the end for Blunt’s political career or is he destined for bigger things? And if that’s what you think, where do you think he’s headed?
NOTE: Should have updated this earlier. Here’s a link to Wednesday’s story after Blunt’s news conference.
Also, here’s Blunt’s announcement as seen on YouTube.

Not a fan of the guy, but I’d like to know his reasons. Possible ones;
1. His Bush-ian act of allowing emails to be erased. Maybe when the emails are found some very dirty laundry will be aired
2. He can’t afford it. It’s time to cash in with the giveaways he provided to his biggest contributores and cronies he granted no bid state contracts to. More $$ in the private sector.
3. He no longer can stomach being a Republican.
4. Maybe he might be coming out of the closet.
5. Some other soon to be discovered malfeasance which will land someone in jail.
6. Will eventually run for some federal office. Might challenge our Claire in a couple of years.
Good riddance! See ya! Don’t bother to write! Can I help you pack?
Blunt finally makes a decision that reflects my values.
Good riddance to bad rubbish! Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. The republicans are all running and hiding now that our economy and country is crumbling to pieces. They destroyed our state and country and now they all want to run and hide.
I can’t wait to find out what Blunt did and to whom. You know something smelly is up.
Maybe his kid needs some of that insurance that he cut in 2005. Wouldn’t that be ironic.
With Blunt not running again WILL the Dems put out a positive, substantiive agenda for Missouri-and in particular will Jay Nixon put one out soon. Didn’t think so!!! Is it mebut don’t most of the leftists posting on here repeat the same thing over and over. It’s like a one-note wonder and same song and dance. Other than rhetoric and talking points leftists and Dems bring nothing to the table. Again why should I vote FOR Jay Nixon?
Cut a budget deficit from 1.1 billion under Holden to a 300million surplus, increased spending on health and education, created thousands of new job and didn’t have to increase taxes to do it not a bad record in three years. Sounds like some of you want to go back to higher taxes and more government spending.

As someone that pays for his kids (through the state) when will they, the state, support MY KIDS FOR ME!?!
The state does not nor should they support your kids
YOU SHOULD, along with their Father(s)
Did you pick deadbeats to sleep with? How is that anyone’s fault but yours?

Most of the Dem probably don’t remember Holden? You know the joker that was Governor when the Dems who had majorities in the legislature for over 50 yrs went to minority status. I think Blunt hatred has to do with the fact that the Dems feel having power like htey did in Jeff City so long is a birthright and a sense of entitlement.
Wow…
That the Post is hosting a Democratic Party meeting is not surprising, per se, but still
BTW: classless Nixon showed more class in his statement yesterday than all the Democratic posters here showed… combined. You guys can learn from your leader…
So the GOP will likely have a contested primary… good, it will make us stronger. Plus, the MSM and Democratic attacks won’t be able to start till then. Nixon has been running against Blunt for at least two years… now he’s not. His only strategy was to attack Blunt. Now what?
Plus… all Nixon’s negatives are still there… net advantage to the GOP.
Then, what are the problems faced by the state? Taxes? Not really. Budget? Balanced… Medicaid re-worked for the 21st century and doing well. Education? Not for much of the state…
Just what votes in which places is Nixon going to be able to get away from the GOP in 2008? Will this help Nixon down state? In Springfield? We Nixon pick up anymore votes in the City of STL and Jackson Co. than he would have already gotten? Just where does this help him?
Money…
Well Blunt’s committee will likely give… he can do that, and will, especially if he doesn’t plan on running for anything else at the moment. Kinder can raise as much as he needs… Rush will come in to help him with that. Emerson, Hulshof, and all the rest can do the same…
And how will the national elections help/hurt Nixon? “Everyone” is claiming that this is a “Democratic year” except that Hillary and Obama are ripping each other apart… no matter who wins, somebody is going to be upset. What if the voters in the City come away thinking that their guy got ‘ripped off’ by Hillary? If just a few stay home because of it… Nixon suffers.
Interesting times…
#119 you are absolutely correct there with your analyisis. Hell in your one post you offered more substance than all the liberals who have posted on here period. The GOP needs to follow the campaign style of Bobby Jindall-current governor of Louisana. Jindall ran an apologetic conservative campaign and won in a Democrat-leaning state at local and state levels. I’m still waiting and wondering what positive and substnative issues Nixon and the Dems will being to the table this year
