Do you wish for more snow, or less?

Schools are closed, people are yanking sleds out of garages and basements and some St. Louisans are enjoying the 8 inches or so of snow that fell across our area.

I’m one of the people who love snow — the more, the better. We head west every year to ski and come back home bemoaning our wimpy winters.

Readers send in their snow photos — you can see them here — and I wish we could see them more often.

What about you? Do you relish the snow, both as a beauty and a bother? Or do you long for the season of flip-flops?

I’m lucky in that I can walk from my condo to my office in less than 10 minutes, so I don’t have to drive in the snow. There is nothing about the snow that I enjoy: the “white blanket” that some enjoy viewing is not that impressive to me; hazardous road and sidewalk conditions pose a hardship to residents, especially the elderly and handicapped; necessary snow removal is both dangerous and costly; snow packed streets create dangerous conditions that destroy automobiles and result in costly mechanical and body repairs. And have you ever visited an emergency room during and immediately after a snow storm? Kids are everywhere with broken arms and legs, collar bones, etc., having “enjoyed” the snowfall!

I lived 4 years in Santa Monica, CA, where the temps rarely fall below 40 degrees F. I didn’t miss the snow then, either.

I’d gladly see no snow at all, ever. It’s a hassle, and doesn’t really improve the ugly st louis winter landscape all that much. I’d take our two week Spring over a snow day every time.

Let it snow! Seasons are part of a beautiful interesting life…having no change of season just seems sad.

What a bunch of bah-humbug. I love the seasons. The cold makes you appreciate a nice warmup, and the boiling summer heat makes me long for winter and days just like today. You take what you get and appreciate it for what it is.

As far as accidents go, I’m sure many more elderly and disabled suffer injust or death during the summer heat than due to winter snow.

Snow Day!!

I got a Robocall last night telling me that my daughter’s school was closed, and I could see from the way it was coming down there was no way I was going to be able to drive in to work (without risking life and limb) – so I took today off.

Ahhh. Relaxing with coffee and enjoying the quiet and the view – priceless. Later, the family will probably go play in the snow, build a snow man, have a snowball fight (which I have to throw :-) ) then come inside and warm up by the fire. Nice.

I wouldn’t want to have the snow all the time, but as an occasional thing, it’s a pretty nice change of pace.

Hope you all have a good snow day too!

I personally love having snow. I love playing in it and crazy enough I love to drive in it.

The problem with snow in the metro St. Louis area is that nobody knows how to drive in it. There seem to be two types of drivers when there is snow. The way over cautious who drive 10 miles per hour, and the idiots who think that because they have a big car they can drive through anything. The over cautious cause backups and the idiots cause accidents. As long as everyone accepts the fact that snow causes commute times to be longer and people drive careful not carefree, we’d all be fine.

I, we love the snow. THere is nothing better than a hill full of kids and their parents enjoying laughing running and sledding on white hills.
The snow and cold keep down the bugs that plaque us in the summer when we have to stay in to keep the mosquitos off of us.

I lived in Buffalo, ny for many years and a storm like this would cause a yawn and a comment that we are having a lite snowfall over night. Keep working and going to school. Yes, it is a big deal here. I want to move to the desert where there would be almost no snow!

Bring on Spring………….why would anyone want to risk a nasty fall or, worse yet, a heart attack to rush out and shovel the driveway. Personally, I agree, I’d much rather live where there is never any snow….think about it….no accidents due to treacherous roads, no broken bones due to slippery walks and steps, no salt buildup on streets and your car, no furnace running constantly. I’m sure Laclede Gas is happy with this cold weather.

Give me 70 degrees year round, and I’d be a happy girl.

I love it! The more the better. The only thing bad about snow is that it looks so bad when the sun comes out and it begins to melt. I’m really glad to live in the midwest where we have a four season year.
