Do you wish for more snow, or less?

Schools are closed, people are yanking sleds out of garages and basements and some St. Louisans are enjoying the 8 inches or so of snow that fell across our area.

I’m one of the people who love snow — the more, the better. We head west every year to ski and come back home bemoaning our wimpy winters.

Readers send in their snow photos — you can see them here — and I wish we could see them more often.

What about you? Do you relish the snow, both as a beauty and a bother? Or do you long for the season of flip-flops?

What’s this global warming nonsense everyone’s talking about? Bring on the snow!!!

We DO NOT get nearly enough snow in St. Louis for my family’s taste. We LOVE IT! It was so much fun to see my husband, son and dog outside clearing off the cars and driveway. They were having a ball. If everyone would stay home if they can and slow down if they have to go out, the accidents would be greatly reduced. So bring on the snow! It’s our favorite time of year!

Being a native St. Louisian, I love the snow. Living in Houston, Texas we do not get to experience the four seasons like midwesterners. Every time I visit during the winter time I hope to see snow. It just brings back the fond memories of playing in the snow. Enjoy it while you can.

It’s only eight inches of snow, people. It’s Missouri, not Florida.

Every time it snows around here, we hear breathless proclamations of Armageddon, and the populace hunkers down accordingly. TV crews take their usual positions over I-270. We hear officials brag about how plows are standing by and can handle anything that comes their way. They speak as if they planned the invasion of Normandy, so proud they are of how they garnered man, machine, and chemical. Then the whiners in offices stare out the windows as if they are seeing snow for the first time, wringing their hands over how they’re going to get home and why doesn’t the boss let us go NOW? Schools close before there is any accumulation, as if there is a prize to see who can be the first to “pre-close.” Then the plows come off the roads because, oops! They can’t keep up after all. They’ll get it cleaned up in a day or two. Or just wait until it melts. What happened to being able to “handle anything?” This morning on my way to work I saw five plows on I-270. One—that’s one—had its blade down. Meantime, my subdivision goes unplowed. And through all this, officials pat themselves on the back for a terrific response. Huh?

I grew up in Minneapolis, where, like our friend above from Buffalo, snow like this is brushed off as a non-event. When I tell my family how this area overreacts to snow, they laugh.

I love a good snowfall! This snow reminds me of the many deeps snows we had in St. Louis when I was a kid. My husband and I (both in our mid-40’s) tell our kids that there was a lot more snow when we were growing up. They didn’t believe us until I found something on the web that said the 60’s and 70’s were the snowiest decades of the 20th century. Anyway, later today we’ll go sledding, build a snowman, watch the dog go crazy running around in it, have hot chocolate by the fire and a pot chili on the stove…. how can that be anything but fun!!

Get out of here with your bad attitudes. If you do not like St. Louis (drivers, weather, weatherman)…get out! We won’t miss you. Given the cold weather we’ve been having, I’d rather have a reason to be cold…(ie; snow). It takes away from the daily routine we can all find ourselves stuck in. It’s exciting to watch. Yet, you (#1.) live in your condo, near your office, presumably in the city…where the yuppie attitudes are just what yours are. Move back to where you came from, please. I doubt you’re worried about the elderly…you’re most likely worried about the wet, white snow & salt ruining your pant leg. I’ll take my morning commute with the occasional inexpierenced driver any day than be stuck in your frame of mind.

More, but only if it stays off the roads and air temps stay 75 degrees or warmer. I live on a wooded lot that is just gorgeous during snow and ice storms. It’s always fun to see which animals make tracks first the next day. Went out to do errands yesterday and only went about 5 miles. The roads had just turned white and not any plows out yet. Several people were weaving in and out of cars going across all three lanes because they couldn’t make up their minds which side of the road they wanted to turn off of. Pulling right in front of you like no god snot was on the roads at all. What’s the matter with drivers around here? We must have had a lot of folks move in that have no good licenses (thank you Ryan), or a clue about driving. This didn’t used to be even ten years ago to this degree. Kids just starting out driving used to drive better than these. There is a totally bad attitude out there now. Stay safe bloggers. I think some just want to collect an insurance check at our expense.
