The presidential primaries are almost here; Have you made up your mind?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
On Tuesday, voters in both Missouri and Illinois will join voters in 20 other states in choosing candidates vying for their party’s nomination.
Once again, Missouri is in the political spotlight with major candidate making campaign stops here over the last week. Former President Bill Clinton campaigned in Edwardsville last week; John McCain was here Friday; Hillary Clinton stopped in Bridgeton on Sunday; and Mitt Romney made an appearance at a Maryland Heights eatery Sunday to watch the Super Bowl.
“Missouri does have historical importance. As Missouri goes, so goes the nation,” said Ken Warren, a political science professor at St. Louis University.
The presidential primaries are almost here. Have you made up your mind?

Yes, in the words of Monty Brewster in Brewster’s Millions…”None of the above”
I mean really… they all talk a good game, but in the end the Washington DC establishment of either party will accomplish nothing.
It’s like giving gift cards at Christmas, we’re all giving someone something to make ourselves feel good but the reality of it all we are just exchanging $20 for $20.
Yes, my mind is made up. Ron Paul.
He may be a long shot, but the pay-off would be fantastic. I am tired of subsidizing the world at the expense of our own currency.
Romney. Someone else commented “none of the above” because all the candidates are of Washington. Thing is, Romney is not “of Washington.” He’ll owe nothing to any special interest because he has never been around those people. Couple that with his experience and record in the business world, with the Olympics, and as governor and I’m not sure how anyone can even consider somebody else.
Why Is Obama Getting A Free Pass?
What do you think the national media would do if there was a presidential candidate who attended a church that describes itself as “unashamedly White” with a “non-negotiable commitment to Europe”. The church goes on to say it has a White worship service and ministries that address the White community. The magazine of the church also gave an award to the leader of a White separatist organization because of his influence in the White community. If the above scenario was true, the media would be all over this story until it had run its course.
Well, it is true and the candidate is Senator Barack Obama. He is a member of Trinity United Church of Christ located in Chicago, Illinois. The church says it is “unashamedly Black” and it has a “Black worship service and ministries which address the Black community”.
The church’s magazine, Trumpet News Magazine, also gave its Lifetime Achievement Award to the Minister Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the controversial Nation of Islam. The church gave him the award because he “truly epitomized greatness”.
Please note the following:
1) I do not have a problem with Obama being a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. He has the freedom to worship where ever he feels comfortable and there is nothing wrong with that
2) Trinity United Church of Christ has every right to establish and believe in their tenets of belief and worship. It is not against the law to have a “unashamedly Black congregation” just as it is okay to have a “unashamedly White congregation”. I believe it’s tacky and wrong, but it is not against the law.
3) The church has every right to give their award to Farrakhan if that is what they want to do. I respect their right to choose their honorees, but I do not have to agree with their selections.
What I have a problem with is the national media coverage of this issue. If Obama was White, this issue would have been a front page story. Obama would have been forced to disassociate himself with his church and make a public denouncement of Farrakhan and his beliefs. Obama would have had to do more than issue a press release addressing the issue. It seems that the majority of the mainstream press does not want to press Obama on certain subjects because they do not want to be seen as racist.
It is not racist to ask Obama tough questions on racial issues or ideology. I don’t care what some civil rights activists would have you believe. What is wrong with asking him questions regarding where he attends church? Republican candidate Mitt Romney is almost questioned daily regarding his being a Mormon. For example, I would like to know why his church is asking its members to boycott Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club? I would like to know the answer to that question? Maybe there is a reason I should not shop at those stores.
I just want to see unbiased press coverage of the candidates. Every day, I read about Senator Hillary Clinton’s negative issues, which are well documented. However, I want to know about Obama’s problems also. I will say this much - Obama and his campaign staff are running a smooth campaign. They have done a good job controlling when he is the “Black candidate” and the “American candidate”. Obama does not want a debate about race during the primary campaign because he does not want to scare off some of his racially sensitive White supporters. However, it’s okay if he brings up the subject of race to recruit the Black vote, but no one else can do it. These are the “Obama Rules”.
My mind is firmly made up. I won’t vote for anybody in the primary or general election. This the most motley crew of presidential candidates that has ever been assembled. There are too many reasons for me to list.
You pick your own poison.
Pete,
For the most part, Congress runs the country. The President sets the agenda and gives the nation it’s goals. If things were to really change the President would have a line item veto to gut some of the pork spending out of bills. Until that happens I see the status quo no matter who’s in the White House.
Marques,
I think if Obama gets the nomination the press will start looking harder for dirt. Until then he makes for a feel good story.
John McCain
He is the toughest, smartest and most proven candidate out there. But most importantly, he has a track record of crossing partisan lines to get things done. In this world, there are entirely too many people who dig in their heals and adopt a “if you’re not with me, you’re against me” attitude. This kind of inflexibility delights the zealots (of both parties) but I am ready for a bridge builder – a true compassionate conservative.
And, anticipating attacks from far right wing partisans, claiming that McCain is not a “true conservative” - he has a life time conservative voting score of 82.5 from the American Conservative Union – Clinton has a 9.0 and Obama an 8.0. Which would you rather see in office?
Ron Paul during the primary. I’m realistic enough to know that he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance of winning in the general election. However, he is the only candidate with the integrity to speak the obvious truth of how the imperialistic goals of the U.S. military industrial complex has bankrupt our nation’s future. VOTE RON PAUL IN THE PRIMARY to make a statement!
McCain
Be sure to take your can of Ron Paul-fanatic repellent, so you don’t get mobbed in the parking lot. Paul’s got some great points, but the people who seem to like him, like him just a little too much…kinda spooky if you ask me. Anyway, I’ve got my pepper spray and taser ready to go.
It is unfortunate that the Republican side of the primary is “winner take all” here in Missouri. If it was proportional (like the Dems), I would not have been surprised of Ron Paul would receive enough votes to garner a delegate or two (or ten).
Sorry Pete,
Romney is a Mormon. His scenario is akin to that of Kennedy a Catholic (only won by a rigged election in Chicago-Cook county), but worse since Mormons are not Christians: they believe Christ is a god, God the father is a god, the Holy Spirit is a god, and you too can transform into a god (celestial realm). This is not the trinity and presents a paganized version of Christianity made tolerable for the modern era. Did you know that in the Mormon temple they marry the dead and babtize the dead? They also want to establish god’s kingdom on earth and purge the earth of all non-Mormon believers, similar to extremist or radical Muslims. All the other candidates are full Christians not heaven-bent on world domination and purification.
Second, Romney is a flip-flopper. Consider from his time in office as Governor compared to his political campaign the man cannot stick to one side of an issue. He changed his stance politically on all core issues that matter to Republicans; who is to say he can be trusted not to switch back?
Mit Romney, a pseudo-Republican and psuedo-Christian.
Obama - it is time for real change. it is time for someone who wants to find real solutions, it is time for someone who is willing to work with both sides of the political spectrum, it is time to change the direction of the country both economically as well as respect with other countries.
I agree with several previous bloggers, and my first position is: “none of the above”. But for me, that’s an unacceptable non-response. While I have a problem with Obama’s “unshamedly black” affiliation, overall I have fewer doubts about (more confidence in?)Obama in general. So it appears that I’ll support Obama, at least at this level. I have serious doubts about McCain, in that I feel he lacks both leadership skills and and the ability to work with Democrats, and even some (most?) Republicans. Obama’s fresh approach may give him an edge in that respect. I feel more comfortable with Obama’s plan to establish affordable healthcare, and I seriously wonder if Hilliary would ever get around to getting it done (read: “apathy”). At this point, I can’t imagine that either McCain or Romney has the charisma or leadership skills to pull off the election. Hilliary is just another beer in the icebox, and she too lacks the magnetic charm to attract the masses. When you look at the total picture, Obama appears at this point to be the only candidate who can effect real change. Hope he (and others around him) don’t screw up his opportunities with more racially-divisive remarks!
Any one but Billary
Yeah, a “proper” Christian is what this country really needs. I mean, hasn’t GWB, a fervent believe in The Good Book, done wonders in his leadership?!? Jesus, I pray that You protect us from Your followers! Cynicism implied.
Obama!
As a Republican-leaning independent, I can tell you why I will vote for Barack Obama if he is the Democratic nominee but I will not vote for Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee.
Barack Obama’s “purported” limited experience doesn’t even register as a problem for me when I compare it with the problem I have with Hillary Clinton’s character.
A person’s character is shaped and tested by their experiences which is why our next President’s character should matter as much if not more than their experience.
1969 - While Barack Obama was being raised by a single mother and experiencing a life of racial and cultural diversity, Hillary Clinton was learning the art of triangulation and writing an admiring college thesis on Saul Alinsky whose fifth rule of political agitation was, “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”
1979 - While Barack Obama was actively involved in the South African divestment movement to end apartheid, Hillary was reaping profits of almost 10,000% in the futures markets and leaving taxpayers with her real-estate losses in the Savings & Loan bailout.
1989 - While Barack Obama served as the Harvard Law Review’s first black president in its 104 year history, Hillary Clinton then wife of the Arkansas governor was receiving payments from a law firm that was doing the state’s business and receiving board of director payments from Wal-Mart where she remained silent about Wal-Mart’s anti-labor union practices.
1999 - While Barack Obama was securing bipartisan support for health-care reform and passage of low-income tax credits and child care subsidies in the Illinois legislature, Hillary Clinton was urging her husband to bomb Yugoslavia and supporting his Iraq “regime change” policy in order to divert public attention from the president’s marital, legal and ethical infidelities.
2007 - While Barack was promoting a restoration of balance between work and wealth and criticizing special interests for distorting U.S. tax codes, Hillary and her husband were liquidating their blind trust of the nearly $50 million amassed during their years in public office.
Hillary Clinton’s positions on the issues are all based on political expediency with the goal of being president. Like her husband, Hillary has no attachment to any position, no leadership qualities and no legal, ethical or moral compass to guide her. Also like her husband, she will need to rely on the polls to guide her to a position.
Barack Obama possesses the leadership, principles and visionary qualities of character needed to unite and not divide our country as the global economy teeters on the brink of economic meltdown not unlike the Great Depression.
Afterall the Roaring Twenties decade that preceded the Great Depression, like the Irrational Nineties that preceded our current decade, were both a golden age for technology, scandal-plagued politicians, corporate greed, and unrestrained personal debt and speculation.
I’ve always voted Democratic but this year I’m voting for Romney. It’s my way of getting even with all the Fundamentalists Christian far “right-wing” conservative Republicans who were so narrow minded they gave us “death row executioner”… war monger….., Iraqi family killer…, spit on the poor.. Bush/Cheney/Halliburton for 8 years….
I want these idiots to be limited to voting for either a black, a woman, or a mormon in November.
They deserve it.
Tough call, but I have to go with Obama. I think we need to break the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton lock, and I believe that Obama has at least a slim chance of getting elected in November. We have to look ahead and, cynically enough, I simply cannot see a woman named Clinton having a prayer in the general election. Of course, I will vote for any Democrat on the ballot. On the Republican side, I really hope McCain sweeps Super Tuesday, to put to rest any possibility of the truly frightening prospect of either Romney or Huckabee getting in.
I will vote for Hillary Clinton because unlike Obama, she has brought about real change to this country. People can talk all they want about the possibility of change, but it is far better to vote for someone who has a proven record of change, someone who is ready on day one to meet the challenges left by the previous administration. People are tired of false promises and individuals who require extensive on-the-job training. Americans want someone who can deliver change effectively and decisively as President.
Please go out and vote for Hillary, the meaning of real, meaningful change and proven results!!
I don’t normally post on these things but I just have to say how completely disgusted I am with those of you saying you aren’t going to vote. What is the point of you having citizenship in this country and reaping the benefits it does provide when you shrug off your civic responsibility of voting with a casual….”they’re all the same” or “it makes no difference”? Your ancestors came to and/or fought for this country for the very priviledge of being able to finely sort out the smaller degrees of what makes one candidate different from another. If you are too lazy or jaded to take the time to do that, well then you certainly don’t have any room to moan and groan about the results and most definitely you don’t have any right to criticize the state of politics as it stands now.
More than in any other previous primary, we have a slew of choices of candidates who are radically different from one another. They may appear simillar on some surface levels, but when you dig deeper and DO THE WORK of investigating each candidate….the differences are there. If you think Clinton and Obama are the same…you haven’t been digging deep enough. If you think McCain and Romney would run the country in the same way…you havent’ been listening enough. If you think that there would not be major differences in the state of this country at the end of any of their four year terms then you have not been paying attention enough to the history of your own country.
I understand that you might not have a candidate you can truly 100% believe in or trust. It would be naive and foolish to think that ANYONE deserves that kind of belief or trust without seeing what they do with the position. This is a job people. The president is your employee. Do you think that any boss really hires anyone saying….oh I KNOW that guy or gal is 100% trustworthy? No. It is, in every instance….a leap of faith and decision based on the knowledge you have in front of you. It is kind of a crap shoot….but right now its the only crap shoot we’ve got. Sometimes you even have to go with someone that, maybe doesn’t have every qualification you want, but is the best you are gonna get at the moment. Change comes slowly, so slowly that we sometimes don’t realize the effects our actions, or in this case inaction, can have. If you want Washington to change overnight, you are a dreamer and that’s a good thing. But if you think that NOT voting will change Washingtion….then you are a fool.
If you haven’t taken the time to do the work and to listen to candidates and read up on them and compare and contrast them. Then please NO….don’t vote this time. An uneducated vote is a vote thrown away to chance. However, if that is you in this election then PLEASE get off of your butt.and over your pessimissim…and exercise the priviledge and the duty that goes along with being a citizen of this country. In the next election or primary….Vote. Even if it means that you vote for the person you think will do the LEAST worst job. Even if it means that you pick between the lesser of two evils. VOTE.
Thanks, Cindy. You said it all, and you said it right.
gee, why are some people too jaded to vote? couldn’t be because most candidates seem to already be selected by a few sparsly populated states (and the nuts in florida). Couldn’t be because even the media decided long ago who they want to front runners to be and only gave coverage to those candidates. Couldn’t be because our primare/caucass process is about as clear as mississippi water. Couldn’t be because not one candidate (except Ron Paul of course) has even explained a little bit about what it is they are going to “Change” except that we need it.
This election will give us more of the same. More of the same big governement, more of a welfare state, more of our money paying foreign military dictators (like in pakistan) to support us which they do only out of one side of their mouths. More war. When all most of us really want is less less less.
all my friends that hate immigrants are going for Romney, all my friends that think 9/11 was an inside job are going for Paul, all my friends that think Walker Texas Ranger is a good show are voting for Huckabee, all my crazy uncles are voting for Gravel, all my friends that want Armageddon are voting for McCain, all my friends that i really hate but we still remain friends are for Hillary, and all my friends that believe in the power hope, that want to see America united again… that want to work past our petty political difference & work together to return Americas reputation where it once was are voting for Obama.
Me, well I am voting for Ron Paul.
Obama
Like many my age (40), I grew up a “Reagan Republican”. While Reagan and Obama have different idealogies, their true message was of Hope and Change.
A hope that American’s can pull together to tackle the biggest issues of our time: poverty, healthcare, education, and energy consumption/environment.
A change that includes taking the political action committees and lobbyist out of Washington. A change that means we quit counting red states and blue states and start counting the United States. A change that means a strong America is not a bully in international affairs but a leader.
Hillary may have the most experience in Washington but is that really what we want? No.
I am a republican voting for Obama in the primary so Clinton will not win my state and hopefully not the primary. It really does not matter who wins as long as it isn’t Clinton, who just wants to be president, not help the country.
It’s fun times around here for me. Since I retired from the Rat race 10 years ago I amuse myself by inventing widgets, and new receipes.
Allison, and to others who walk in my front door, you will see Ti Plants on either side, and a huge one, 8 feet tall in front of a window. Walking into my home is a little like walking into a tropical jungle. The Ti plants breathe in carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen. My cats, LOI, and I all like to have oxygen to breathe in. The plants love the carbon dioxide that we animals breathe out.
I can do without eating lobster or scallops. Bass and catfish will substitute very nicely. Fresh Meat? No problem. I have 4 or 5 plastic barrels, and 250 pounds of block salt. Put water in and add salt till an egg will float. Toss in any kind of meat, and close the lid. It will be fresh meat for at least 2 years. Take a piece out of the barrel and soak it in water overnight, and it cooks and tastes exactly like fresh meat.
Yes I have finally made up my mind, but my heart was grabbed long ago. I just pray the universe does the right thing this time!
As a conservative, I only have one choice. That choice is Mitt Romney. I feel fortunate to have such an intelligent, moral, and true conservative to vote for.
Give it up Mr Keith. You just look stupid trying to smear Obama. Now did that deeply into Bush/Cheney and I am betting there will not be enough space in ten blogs to cover it all.
Mike Gravel will be getting my vote. Anyone else would be a catastrophe.
I am voting for Obama because Oprah told me to.
#32 – Fair enough. After all, there will be plenty of people who vote for Romney because Limbaugh, Coulter, etc told them too.
As a moderate Republican, I believe the best bet is a McCain ticket. If you are ANY type of Republican, you HAVE to vote McCain. Vote for anyone else and we lose. No doubt. Run Romney against Obama or Clinton and WE WILL LOSE. You may like Romney better, but for the hope of your party, DON’T PICK ANOTHER Bob Dole. (Even if Romney would make a great Viagra commercial.)
But really, let’s be honest. “ANYONE BUT HILLARY, 2008″. Let’s unite for that slogan. Pease vote, you lucky Missourians, I am a St. Louis girl down here is Texas. So I have no say!
Since my boys both dropped (Richardson and Edwards) and John McCain made his statement about being in Iraq for a hundred years, I guess I’ll vote for Barack, not because I like him especially but I am definitely “anybody but Hillary”.
I find it interesting that all major news media have been covering the economy like a hound on point with a quail, and ignoring the grizzly bears about 10 ft. away (Iraq and Afghanistan.)
Amen, Cindy #21. Yes, I get jaded, disgusted, and disheartened by our political process, and I sincerely hope that some day we will arrive at a methodology not controlled by powerful lobbiests, Madison Avenue promo and glib faces on deceptive ads. And yes, I would like to think that someday our nation’s average voter will actually know something about the candidates and actually think about something besides who looks best in a suit and who might put a few dollars in his/her pocket for beer and cigarettes before going to the polls.
But your point is so well taken: we get the leaders we ask for, when we can’t even go to the trouble to use our power as citizens of a democratic republic and VOTE. The more people stay home, the more we wind up with lousy public officials who do not represent the will of the people they govern. And yes, the decisions these people make do have a tremendous imnpact on our lives.
Bottom line, to me: Until we replace or drastically change the system we’ve got, the only thing we can do is choose - among lesser evils, if we must see it that way — and get out there and vote. If we can’t do that, we have no right to complain. If you won’t play the game, you have no right to gripe about either the rules or the outcome.
I like Romney for a number of reasons, first and foremost being that I think he is the best bet at stabilizing the economy. If Clinton or Obama win, the economy will take a turn for the worse. Taxes will increase across the board, and government spending will decrease. A full recession will set in and new government subsidized programs will wave away personal responsibility and growth and create a complete nanny state.
That being said I’m not voting. I have reasons for supporting McCain as well and at this point my conflicted vote will not help the process. I would want to be sure of who I support before I make a primary choice. I’ll leave that matter to the people who do have a firm grasp on their man.
I’ll also make a choice by the time the general election rolls around, and considering Obama and Clinton are the only choices for Democrats I won’t be voting for that party. I had prefered Joe Biden. He had experience, and an actual plan of action on a number of issues including Iraq. Hillarys campaign seems to be just to get Hillary elected and Obama speaks to hope with out experience or planning. I need something a little more firm than an emotion to vote on.
That fact that people are voting based solely on emotion scares me. I think it isn’t our duty to vote. I don’t believe in “Rock the Vote” or “Vote or Die”. I want people to vote if they are firm on their choice and have a conscience reason for doing so. I don’t want an American Idol pop contest. That ruins our nation. Apathy is a shame but an apathetic person voting just because is a crime (figuratively).
At this point Romney or McCain.
Mitt Romney!
AS a note on Teresas statement, Iraq and Afghanistan aren’t the grizzlies 10 ft. away. Iraq security has been stabilized. It’s now up to the citizens to fashion a government and take over their own security. If they don’t get that done its on them. Afghnistan is moving slow but there is still progress. I think a new administration will make the appropriate adjustments that the Bush Admin is failing to make. Those adjustments in both cases, however, is not to pull out instantly and willy nilly. (I love that phrase.)
Biden had the best Democratic strategy, but people went with the glitz of the “First” candidates and the lying charm of Edwards. What can you expect from Teresa anyway, she seemed to like Edwards. Anyone that bought what he sold (and that lawyer was selling) can’t read through anybody. Edwards was a smooth talking one trick pony and we’re all better off that he failed.
Iraq security has been stabilized, and when RCJ says stabilized what he is saying is that when Blackwater forces gunned down 17 Iraqi civilians in Baghdad’s Nisour Square and wounded more than 20 others. they were stabilizing that “town square” by eliminating terrorists (or) potential terrorists that disguised themselves as innocent civilians.
“Mohammed Hafiz was driving four children when Blackwater mercenaries riddled the car with bullets. His ten-year-old son Ali was shot in the head. Mohammed had to gather up pieces of the child’s skull and brains for the burial. During one point in the massacre, Blackwater operatives concentrated fire on a passenger bus. A small boy fled the bus in terror and was shot down as was his mother who ran after him.”
Iraq, you’ve been stabilized!
I wont vote for any candidate who is more interested in ending the war in Iraq rather than winning it, so there goes Billary, Barry and RonPaul.
Next goes any candidate who wants to give amnesty to 20 million illegal aliens, restrict political free speech, grant enemy combatant Constitutional protections and access to the courts, impose higher taxes for “Global Warming”.
I will have to vote for whoever is left, thankfully, that is Mitt Romney.
Obviously RCJ did not see the irony in my initial statement. We pull those American troops out of both countries, and see how stable they remain and for how long. Iraq *was* stable (repressed, to be sure, but stable) under Saddam Hussein. When it became obvious we couldn’t find Bin Laden, we should have left Afghanistan — taken a lesson from the Russian experience there, so to speak. Right now, I really don’t care if both of the fall splat on their faces. We’re not getting but a drip of the oil from either which was coming into this country in 2000 because we bombed their oil infrastructure to bits, and the insurgents have ensured that it has stayed broke.
The whole point is: my personal economy is better than it has been in 10 years right now, and I still think, that the half a trillion dollars we’ve wasted in the Middle East would have been much better spent here at home. Hence, I cannot vote for Goth McCain. [All the calls at the house have been robocalls asking for the Republican of the house. We have no Republicans here, nor Democrats neither.]
My preference for Richardson or Edwards is based on Richardson’s experience, and the fact that Edwards is more centrist than either Barack or Hillary, plus the fact we’ve got some Democratic and Independent Neanderthals in this country who think that all intelligence resides in white men. I did find it interesting that in yesterday’s lineup of photos on Stltoday, if one were going to discriminate by skin color, Romney was the swarthiest, Hil and Barack looked the same shade, and pink-cheeked McCain looked like either a night-dwelling Goth, or someone who had never been in the Arizona sun. Shades of OJ maybe…maybe I need to adjust the settings on my monitor.
My pref for Edwards and Richardson is I think they both are acceptable to centrist independents, whereas the remaining 4 are extremists on both ends. Personally, I don’t know that I’d want to have lunch with either one, but if I did, Richardson would be highly preferable.
I’ve also considered voting for Ron Paul, not to win, but to annoy the other three Reps. But I think voting for Barack could actually be more meaningful, since I have a couple of brothers going for Paul.
I’m hoping for a convention fight on both sides, with some ‘unknown’ being selected.
I’m voting for Mitt Romney in the GOP primary tomorrow. Some say he has changed positions but considering he was running in Massachusetts for offices you have to look at the big picture. In 1994 when he ran against Kennedy in MA it was first time in 30 years that Ole Kennedy actually had to defend his record and it wasn’t a coronation for him. So what if Romney is a mormon hell have mormons actually beheaded people that don’t agree with them? I don’t recall mormoms ever advocating or actually doing homicide bombings Also I don’t think Mormons have actually conquered people and forced religion on others-like what happened in North Africa and several parts of Middle East hundreds of years ago.
#43 - You might want to read up on the Mountain Meadows massacre. A wagon train was jumped by the Mormon militia, who not winning the initial attack, laid siege to them. The siege came to an end when the Mormons bartered a surrender, where the wagon train would lay down their arms and be escorted away from Utah. Once people of the wagon train disarmed, and were being escorted away, every Mormon turned to the unarmed person beside them and shot them dead - men, women, and children.
The date? September 11th, 1857.
17 young children were spared, they were divided up (along with the murdered families possessions) amongst Mormon families. Later some spoke of recognizing their mothers dresses and jewelry – being worn by local Mormon women.
Now before you protest that all religions have their dark days (fairly true), it’s not just the “checkered past” that worries me. Someone earlier raised the example of GWB, saying he believed he spoke to God. Well, if you think a President who believes he speaks to God can cause trouble, wait till you have a President who believes he IS God.
Research the Mormons – it’s a Very interesting read.
I hate to sound negitive. Someone said we get the leaders we vote for. That’s a correct statement. The problem is that they seem to change so much after they are elected. They are in turn not the same person that we voted for. I don’t think that the Democrats will be able to get us out of Irac in a sensible fashion. They just want to run. That will ruin us in any future conflict that we might get into willingly or un-willingly. I think that McCain is the best choice right now to get us out of this with some credibility. We can’t move forward until this Irac issue is settled.
OBAMA!
(beads and chix and drinx come later that evening at the parade)
I suspected Si was fake when he mentioned he thinks it is possible to win the war in iraq. Couldn’t possible be a sentient being.
Sub Par Cerebellum………It’s amazing. You posted a rebuttal to comment #46 (your imposter, hee hee he) in 3.5 minutes.
“America will never elect a mormon president.”…
I didn’t say that….someone’s taking control of my fingers. Can the admins please remove it.
Obama! It’s time for something fresh and new and someone who is CORRECT! Hillary Clinton claims to be for worker’s rights and pro union. However, from the late 80’s to 1992, she was on the board of directors for Wallmart, one of the worst companys on record with regards to workers rights!
Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy
Is there anything more American than holding a caucus in a Casino?
Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy
I’ll vote for Hilary. She just about ran the White House while Bill was in office and the country did well during that time. Why not do it again? It seams the Clintons are always cleanning up after Republicans.
HILLARY. . . HILLARY. . . HILLARY. . . She is the most qualified person running to assume the role of President of the US. Obama is a good orator, but she has more concrete plans that would actually work.
And yes, I’m THRILLED to actually be able to vote for a WOMAN who can do the job. Lest we forget, women were given the right to vote in 1920, 50 years AFTER black men were given the right to vote. And let us not forget that the constitution said, “all men are created equal.” The 14th amendment called the equal protection under the law, didn’t include sex as a criteria for giving equal protection.
Actually, maybe I shouldn’s say too much since we never passed the equal rights amendment and therefore, as a WOMAN, I don’t possess equal rights.
As Shirley Chisholm (the first african american woman elected to congress) said, “Of my two handicaps, being female has put more obstacles in my path than being black.”
The magic eight-ball says “No Opportunistic Bitches,”
So I’m going to vote for who I always vote for: The Bald White Guy.
# 41 You lost the war already. You will never win it and you are not patriotic to keep destroying this country because you are scared and/or just evil and love deaths. Now why are you letting young girls fight your war for you? I despise guys who post pro-war here and let women fight their battles. And don’t tell me, your accountant has it fixed so you won’t even be paying for your world occupations. Coward! Go get some sand in your nads and pay that tax bill…then come back. Mission Accomplished! Sure it was buddy. I’m voting for who this doof isn’t.
Ron Paul is the only candidate who can fix our economy and bring our troops home… period.
But regardless, please vote for who you think will do the BEST job, and not just who you think will win… we’ve been screwed by that mentality long enough.
oh yeah, and as for all these Hillary lovers, you’d better be okay with another 4 years of war in Iran… read the Kyl-Lieberman bill that she voted in…
remember, Bill bombed Iraq too.

I could not have said it better myself.
Something you will notice about this type of post . . . these guys are on here all the time, commenting over & over with their hawkish stance, but they will never come out and say who they are. They always post under an alias. Because they are ashamed of what they believe and deep down they know they can not stand behind what they say… it is even metaphorically within their own argument.
From what it seems like, all these doofs are going for Romney.
Their time was up a long time ago.
Kissinger was wrong . . . at least McNamara came to his senses!
Ron Paul. It does make me sad that America is going to blow this chance to have someone who just doesn’t stink of politician leading our country.
I haven’t decided yet. If I vote republican it will be between McCain or Huckabee…..absolutely not Romney. If I vote democrat in the primary, I will vote for either Clinton or Obama….LOL
If Thompson were still in the race, I’d have voted for him in the Primary. As it is, I’ll vote for Romney as will my wife. Come the general election I’ll re-evaluate the situation, but most likely I’ll vote third party, either Constitution or Libertarian depending on who’s their nominees.
I’d written Ron Paul off as a nut early on, but upon more recent considerations, he’s piquing my interest. I’d rather not see McCain win the nomination, so I can only vote for the strongest of the remaining contenders that I feel is the best suited and has a strong chance of winning. That’s Romney.
You can damn well be sure I’ll not vote for Hillary, Obama or McCain. I’ll trust flipping Romney over sheep-skin McCain any day.
I’m in agreement with SVPPB (#41), all the way! I voted for Romney, this morning.
