Brisk discussion underway over P-D’s Obama endorsement
Many readers are nonplussed by the Post-Dispatch’s editorial page endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama for president. An excerpt of the editorial:
Over the past nine months, Mr. Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, has emerged as the only truly transformative candidate in the race. In the crucible that is a presidential campaign, his intellect, his temperament and equanimity under pressure consistently have been impressive. He has surrounded himself with smart, capable advisers who have helped him refine thorough, nuanced policy positions.
Readers have started reacting in the story comments on the editorial (see the bottom of the page at that link). Among their comments:
lmoorekc: “I am so proud of my Home Town Newspaper. Senator Obama is the only REAL choice for this country for all the reasons your editorial stated and more. My prayer is that we as Americans, do not let the issue of RACE cloud our judgment and cause us to vote unwisely. GOD BLESS AMERICA.”
DAP_Kirby: “One of the most liberal papers in the country endorses a Socialist with Marxist tendencies, wow, what a shock. The paper is going out of business and they still don’t get it.”
There’s also quite a few comments on Charles Krauthammer’s op-ed column — which ran the same day — headlined, “Obama’s past associations are fair game.”

Brisk discussion? Really? Where?
The Post Dispatch supports a person who has terrorist friends and does not want to talk about those relationships. If Barack Obama were going for any other government job, he would be denied because he would not get the security clearance. Is this someone who we want in charge of our government? Does any one remember 9-11? It is hard for me to comprehend that we may have a president who does not seem to care about our feelings toward terrorism. He keeps dodging the questions asked of him on his terrorist friends. The people of this country need to wake up before it is too late.
This whole “Obama is a terrorist” thing has gone beyond ignorant. It is atrocious to think that there are citizens of this country that are that stupid. Or is that really a surprise?
Obama will be a great president. Wise endorsement, PD. Keep up the good work.
Hmmm, the PD endorsing a Liberal Democrat? Who’d have thunk it. Didn’t they endorse Bosley for mayor too? Putin and Chavez are licking their chops hoping that he’ll become prez. so they can walk all over him.
And there’s a discussion for this why? The news media is basically part of the Obama camp’s PR department, as if nobody already knew.
Thank you Hussein, you just proved my point. Bill Ayers said recently that he did not do enough in bombing more places. Obama does not want to answer questions when asked about his friend. People have forgotten what happened just seven years ago, that is a shame.

To believe that Barack Obama is somehow going to infiltrate the country with terrorism when he is elected president is the most ludicrous, paranoid, crackpot theory I have ever heard. Barack is the only choice to lead this country back where it belongs, respected for our freedom and our power.
The only reason you are scared of Barack Obama is because the Republican Party and its right-wing mouthpieces have convinced you to be - or possibly because you’re a racist. Handing power to an old war veteran, approaching senility and in bed with the lobbyists who have been running Washington for decades, is much more frightening.
Lewis Farrakhan was backing Barrack Obama back in February of this year when Mr. Obama came out and asked him to back off. Mr. Obama said at the time he did not want his support. Well, Lewis Farrakhan is back supporting Mr. Obama now, calling him Islam’s Messiah. Last month Mr. Obama was on a television show and supposedly made a slip of the tongue in saying his “Muslim Faith”. It is possible that Mr. Obama is Islam trying to pass himself off as a Christian; this should also be another warning sign to people. Mr. Obama has a big character question and many people can not even see it.
The Post Dispatch is like my dad and some mis-lead family members,cousins,aunts etc.Not my children. Thank God.You and they would vote for Hitler if he were a Democrat.Now they are voting for a baby butcher,a liar,and a Muslim.God help us all.
I appreciated the way the Post Disgrace’s “editorial staff” listed the accomplishments of Sen Obama in a very detailed way. They also mentioned Joe Biden’s judicial committee work, but left out the parts where he is completely WRONG on the Constitutional basics and his undermining of the judicial nominee process. The Constitution is pretty clear, Advice and Consent of the Senate. Biden and his ilk want to impose some UnConstitutional ideology test to the process.
The Post Disgrace chides the “unqualified” Governor Palin, but praises the unqualified Obama.
As I said before, this editorial is no surprise, it could have been written months ago in much fewer words;
