Who won? And who got in the best shots on the other?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
So here’s the fundamental question: Who won? Who got the best shots in when debating the issues? Was was the tone and tenor of the debate?
Post your vote in the scorecards below and discuss:

Palin won hands down.Biden has lied his whole life when it comes to politics.Wake up!!
This poll - “warm” ? “mean”? is so utterly stupid.

More of the same from her, Biden was an intelligent, articlulate gentleman with an obvious passion for the middle class.
Palin won by a landslide. She is a real, down to earth person who connects with most people in Missouri. She showed Biden and the rest of the world she is qualified to be President, much more so than O’Bama. O’Bama and Biden might as well write off Missouri and spend their money and effort in someother swing state.
she just repeated talking points, way rehearsed, she did horrible!
Biden simply could not have done any better at this debate. Palin did about as well as she was capable of, but that just isn’t saying much. Biden was the clear winner, and he nailed her on every false thing she said. What an idiot she was to criticize Obama’s voting record in cases where McCain voted the same way. Is she that coached on the talking points that she doesn’t even bother to look at their voting records in order to make an informed statement? She didn’t do as poorly as I had expected, but nonetheless, she is unqualified, and the thought of having her in charge of the country is simply terrifying. I am glad that many conservatives are stepping up for the good of the country and saying that she has no business as VP. Thank you.
O’Bama, He’s been called a lot of things, but never Irish. I agree with the talking points, wish they would have given her a few more about her enegery policy experience.
PALIN!!!!!!!!!! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!! I can only assume the level of shock and quiet in the Post newsroom right now. Sarah, America loves you.
I think Palin certainly covered the point spread.
People forget that a sitting president doesn’t need to die in office for the vice-president to take the responsibilities of the presidency. A stroke/heart attck, even a mild one, would put Palin in charge, for as long as it took McCain to recover. There are sooooo many more qualified people. She did better than expected, but I chortled when she said she’d bring some Wassila Main St. values to Washington D.C. if elected. Yeah, right! She simply doesn’t inspire confidence that she could be president if needed.
Good debate prep - but underneath it, Palin is still the idiot in the Couric interviews.
Way to dodge questions. When asked about Achilles’ Heels, Cheney’s views on the VP, and several other questions, Palin launched once again into her tired-two-weeks-ago, PowerPoint bullets talking strategy. One can only shake one’s head in disbelief. It was as if you asked the governor what her favorite food was, and she said, “blue.”
I was reminded of the scene in Billy Madison -
“Nowhere in your rambling, incoherent response did you come close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. We are all dumber for having listened to it.”
It’s a lot more fun to be in front of the camera when you can pretend you didn’t hear the question and just start spouting pseudo-patriotic gobbledy gook nonsense and robotically repeating the “keywords” Karl “Turd Blossom” Rove told you to say. Biden was smarter, knew his stuff, and didn’t insult everyone’s intelligence - because he actually chose to answer the questions.
Please, what debate were you watching? Palin did very well, but she could have taken more shots at Biden and Obama. As surprising as it may seem for the followers of The One, the fact that Biden says something doesn’t make it so. Passion for the middle class?! Sure… And now he wants to send more soldiers to Afghanistan. Sure.. until soldiers are actually sent, and then they’ll oppose again to the failed (sic) surge strategy. Biden says that he learned not to question his adversaries motives, only their judgment. Nice and fair, but he also thinks that he should be judged by his intentions, not by the flaws in their big government plans. Just because he says that he cares about “those in his neighborhood,” doesn’t mean that his policies will actually help. We know they won’t.
Palin would make a great salesman! All these folks line up to buy whatever cr@p she wants to sell them.

Most notable news from Palin was her expressed opinion that the vice presidency could grow in power. After Cheney, that’s a horrifying thought. Also, I was struck by her utter disregard for Biden when he spoke of losing his wife and children, returning instead to her talking points. That was cold and creepy, and contrasted shockingly with her peppy, family values shtick.
Palin did ok…more’s the pity. She is still an idiot who appeals more to the emotional side of Americans than the intellectual which should be the standard for a candidate.
The most frightening thing I can conceive is Palin as President.
Palin came across as the “stepford candidate”… if she couldn’t read her index cards, she had no idea what to say. On to of that, she failed to answer the questions and instead fell back to her talking points. Biden, to the contrary answered the questions presented.
Biden was clearly the winner when the question is “Who is qualified to be President if the President were to die in office”
Palin showed she was a regular person. But she had that going in, the question for me was will she be a competent Vice President and will her ticket fundamental alter what we’ve gone through these last eight years. I didn’t get an answer to either of those questions.
Biden won all the way! He answered the questions using logic and facts!
Palin told her typical “folksy” stories and worked her way around answering the questions. She kept going back to the “energy” topic when it wasn’t even the topic of the question. It also seemed like she was reading from a memorized script.
Obama/Biden are for the middle-class. They are not going to raise your taxes unless you make at least $250,000. McCain/Palin are not going to give you a tax cut unless you make at least $250,000.
McCain/Palin also want to start taxing businesses on their employees health coverage. What employer will go for that? Not many, if not any! Many Americans will be forced to get their own insurance and pay for it out of their own pocket. Therefore, it will lead to many Americans living w/o health insurance. The health industry will be a disaster!
I am for Obama/Biden, because they are for helping the middle-class, which in turn will boost the economy!
Biden was able to speak intelligently about specific goals and specific facts (spending, education, engery, energy consumption, health care solutions, and more.) The McCain-Palin ticket only seems to know about war and fighting, in fact ‘Fight!’ is even their slogan! How about investing here at home? Let’s bring our young minds home from Iraq and see what wonderful things they have to contribute here at home. Let’s keep those billions of dollars out of Iraq and invest them here at home! Let’s vote for change. Go Obama-Biden!
Biden’s a seasoned professional. He’d be a credit to the presidency. Palin didn’t melt under the spotlight but she is dangerously inexperienced and obviously out of her depth. We had friends over and Biden made my friend’s wife cry. Very sincere. Very effective. No contest.
Palin could not have done any better. She was shallow, didn’t answer questions, repeated talking points, and convinced me she is trying to hide her immense ignorance of politics.
Biden won.
Palin showed the country what a real person with character and integrity looks like. Great job!
Sarah refused to answer questions, and in fact brazenly informed the moderator and the American people that she wasn’t going to do so. She clearly had her scripted same old talking points….and she was determined to repeat them. I have heard them so many times, I was able to chant them right along with her. Nothing new…..I am not impressed. Earth to Sarah…..the debates were for the American people. We would have appreciated it if you had answered the questions.
Thank God we only have one more month of this McPalin duo.
I don’t get it. Everyone says “Oh Palin did SO much better than everyone expected!” I’ll concede that she didn’t make a complete idiot out of herself like some people said they would, but that’s just my point! The expectations were so incredibly low for her in this debate that she would have had to show up drunk in order to NOT exceed them! I look at it this way… If a student has an average grade in class of 30% and gets a 60% on the exam you could say that they exceeded expectations, but it’s still an F in the overall scheme of things.
I thought Sarah could have been a lot more focused on the Congress’s role in this wall street melt down. We pay wallstreet to be greedy for us….we pay congress to serve us.
Biden was obviously making up votes and stats to suit his argument. He at one point argued for a surge in Afganistan and then argued that a surge was not a viable option according to the General in charge…wasn’t called on any of this by Sarah or Gwen Obama.
She sure doesn’t come across as very educated, especially in areas of foreigh arrairs and constitutional law. I believe these are the two most important areas our chief executive needs to know. When the Gov. suggested expanding the congressional authority of the Vice President, that was without a doubt the last straw. We have had to deal with Dick Chenny the last 8 years, bullying and interperting the power of the executive branch in ways that should have gotten him impeached if not indicted. My vote is now going to Obama. How can we risk putting this candidate one heartbeat from the nukes.
I don’t understand this. I will concede that Palin exceeded expectations tonight but, that’s the thing that baffles me. You see, expectations were so LOW for her tonight that she would have had to show up drunk NOT to surpass them. I look at it this way… Let’s say a student in class has an average grade of 30%. Then they make a 60% on a test, doubling their average and exceeding expectations. That student’s still a FAILURE.
Imagine giving students a test, and they pass because they fill the page. They answered ; that’s not debatable. But did they answer the question? NO. That’s exactly Palin’s stance tonight. she did answer but not the question. There was no substance. All she stated were rehearsed statements irrelevant to questions. Are we so desperate that we have no rigor, no high expectations, for our students..oops sorry Vice president.Heaven helps us.Imagine being happy that someone running for vice president was able to spit rehearsed irrelevant statement
and we call that “holding her own”. No basic knowledge. No answers. No substance. Answers to something else.
Question 1: What is the Capital of Missouri? Governer your answer please….
I believe we need to drill more oil wells and produce more oil to become less dependent on foreign oil, and John McCain talked about oil 3 years ago and if we had listened to him, we would have more oil……
What happened? did she get her note cards out of order? I teach school to 8th graders. If this was an oral exam, she failed. What does she think we are, stupid?
Biden did all that you would hope for. In fact he was the only one to really connect emotionally. Governor Palin succeeded in this format. She was very rote in her answers as you would expect after days of drilling. She is not dumb. She has been a professional news reader, so you expect some competence.
But I agree with some of the initial responses. Ms Palin did nothing to distinguish the McCain Palin ticket from the Bush administration. Constant references to being mavericks without any substantive points to be made is not persuasive to me.
This is a minor victory for McCain in that it was not a disaster. But, unless the economic issues dissapear, it will mean little in the long run.
Now, the focus will be once again on the principals. It’s plain that Ms Palin, one heart beat away, will be kept away from the media. That has been a disaster.
Thank god for live television. I wonder what goodies were left on the cutting room floor by Katie C of CBS. But what do you expect from Katie who had a sister elected to office as a Democrat. Palin was great!!!!!
Much improved by Palin. Nearly perfect game by Biden.
Biden’s a weak stage performer, but at least he answered the questions (usually). Palin always went off on some semi-prepared statement regardless of what Ifill asked. Shame on Ifill for letting these candidates go off-topic so easily. Palin needed a solid, substantive performance tonight to assuage fears that she’s in over her head, but in the end I thought she came up short. She was OK the first 30 minutes, but then ran out of talking points, and started randomly misfiring and repeating herself. After a lousy start, Biden was strong on foreign policy and on the economic travails of working- and middle-class Americans. He seemed genuinely choked up talking about his own family struggles, and Palin seemed really awkward responding to that. I wouldn’t have thought it’d be Biden that seemed more authentic. I have to give the advantage to him.
GUNS,BABIES,JESUS = Sarah Palin’s is “THE LEFTS WORST NIGHTMARE”
Sarah won hands down
not even close
To Frank Mills-
“She showed Biden and the rest of the world she is qualified to be President, much more so than O’Bama.”
First of all, Sarah Palin is not running for President. Secondly, Obama’s name is not spelled with an apostrophe in it. If he’s of any Irish decent, I haven’t heard anything about it. And I respectfully disagree with you that she won by a landslide. She held her own & did a much better job tonight than this Obama/Biden supporter was anticipating. That said- she in no way connects with me…. a Missourian…. a middle class, caucasian, educated female in Kansas City. I think that if any of us are going to campaign for our candidates of choice, we need to 1) educate ourselves on BOTH candidates, despite our personal beliefs (HOW can we be true advocates for our leaders if we do not have an understanding of the opposite points of view?) and/or 2)if we don’t want to bother learning about the “opposite” point of view, then we need to keep our mouths shut and focus on positive campaigning for our candidates. The negative comments from both sides (liberal and conservative) are getting to be RIDICULOUS. Your (and anyone else’s) attempt to cut down your fellow Missourians for campaigning for their candidate (whoever it may be) is disgusting.
Wow, Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air, no pretense or political
snobbery. She made Biden squirm and she enjoyed every minute.
Good choice, John McCain !
PALIN DOES NOT BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION. Question answered. She is a right wing convservative looney. So go ahead all you bushies and carry on the destruction of this country by voting for 4 more years of the same. Unbelievable how many people refuse to take their blinders off and face the facts. Simply unbelievable.
After a week of embarrassing press, the bar was low for Palin. She acquitted herself well. The problem, though, is she shows little depth, very little understanding of issues. She proved herself a good study, and could speak the political speak.
Biden, on the other hand, is well versed in what he discussed. He has a clear track record, and sounded credible and smart throughout the evening. In many ways, the debate seemed to gloss over the real identity of Palin, that she is a conservative to the core. Sure, she has her folksy ways, but on social issues she’s as regressive as they come.
-A St. Louis native who’s long lived in California
Palin is George Bush in a dress; folksy, empty, & clueless…I don’t understand why people translate folksy into being qualified for the 1st or 2nd highest office in the country!! This is why our country is suffering immensely right now! Let’s at least pick someone who is far more intelligent than we are in economics and foreign policy, people!!!
Not sure ‘warm’ or ‘mean’ was how I would describe them. I don’t like when someone refuses to answer a question. Commentators afterward commented that this was good of Palin. I don’t like that behavior. Doesn’t that mean she will be just as skilled to not answer as VP?
“Folksiness” is not a substitute for substance. It is a shame that people still think that the “someone like me” argument has any merit. Too many voters used that measuring stick in 2000 and 2004. Where did that get us, again? You aren’t interested in leadership. You are interested in sound bites.
Biden won.
Sarah Palin is working diligently to convince us that she is just like us. But Americans are not that dumb.
I am a teacher and am struck by how much Sarah Palin reminds me of an unprepared student. The moderator asks a question == and Palin goes on and on to show the American people how much she knows, but she never actually answers the question. This suggests to me that she does not have the answer.
My students who perform like this earn an “F” — in my view, so did she.
Well obviously, the Democrat talking points were to say that Palin didn’t answer the questions and she avoided substance. This is just way too easy to see. I will say one thing about these Democrats. They know how to stick to talking points and they sure know how to repeat what their talking heads have told them.
Why is it that Democrats can’t think for themselves? Why is it that all they know how to do is repeat what they hear and not think for themselves? Actually, it’s quite scary and disappointing but expected.
Clearly Palin was coached to to on the attack and not to bother answering questions and risk giving answers that would put her at risk of appearing to lack comprehension and knowledge let alone experience. She was unpleasant; is she becoming McCain?
Donna, you being a teacher of a failing school system speaks volumes for your very biased idiotic opinion. You obviously followed the talking points quite well. Now my question to you is; were they distributed to you by the NEA or was it simply the usual Democrat sources?
Teachers like you are a major reason why we home school! It’s too bad that good teachers have to put up with you!
Palin did a great job showing America that she is one of us. It’s time to start cleaning house in Washington. Obama just needs to go away, he is as worthless to America as the day is long.
Almost every question that was asked of Sarah Palin she answered it in terms of oil, energy and how knowledgeable she was on that. She got the information wrong on Senator McCain’s votes and no one mentioned how many times he voted against healthcare increases and help for returning vets. She kept winking into the camera and giving the “durn right” and “you betcha” answers and when asked about same sex unions she answered by saying she wouldn’t stop anyone from visiting the hospital and she believed in marriage as one man and one woman. She avoided how she felt about gay rights and legal unions. I was ready to scream at how many times she referred to John McCain as The Maverick who saved the “bail out” when we all know he went in there and screwed the whole thing up and brought it to a halt. So I see nothing that she said or did last night, even when she tried to make herself into “as a woman raising kids” and “kitchen table worries”, she brought Joe Biden’s fight for his children’s lives after losing two daughter’s a wife and nearly his two son’s. He raised them alone, something she’s never faced! So living in the Big State of Alaska, and how we do it up there, or how the power of the VP should be made even stronger in the decision making, made me more concerned about her than ever. NO to a “same old, same old” only much worse, McCain/Palin and YES to a new and brighter future with Obama/Biden.
Biden, demonstrated he is just another lawyer. He spent most of his time trying to muscle and manipulate. He was more worried about slamming McCain than talking up his running mate. Maybe because there is nothing good to say about Obama, so he couldn’t focus on that. Watch CNN and Biden won, watch FOX and Palin won, get a grip world, the media is the reason we are in the shape we are in. Unfortunately people believe what they hear, see, and read. No one takes the time to think on their own. That is what the Obama camp is counting on. Uneducated America, people that are blinded by the media. Stop and think, Congress makes most fo the decisions, they are a group of left wing liberal democrats. Stop, think and make an intelligent decision.
Sara Palin not only had Biden on his heels all night, and won hands down, she showed drive-by media campaign against here to be the huge lie that it is.
take away the heavily scripted talk points and what is left is probably a “nice lady”, with little or no substance. The descriptor still being out to jury in Alaska.
I thought that both candidates did a fine job at debating. Considering the expectations, Palin excelled and Biden did as expected, same old boring Senators that we have been hearing BS from since the beginning of time. Seemed to me like Palin is more in touch with the large majority of American voters, while Biden is just more of the same, old school politicians.
I also felt that Palin removed doubt that she can handle her own in executive office, and find it interesting how some folks claim that Palin is underqualified to be “one heart-beat away” from the Presidency, while the same people have no problem to put an even less qualified Obama in the Oval office.
When Biden said that it would be a “National Tragedy” if he would become president due to the incapaciation of Obama, he could have stopped way short and just stated the truth - It would be a National Tragedy if Barack Obama was elected President!
I am no real fan of John McCain’s Politics either, although I would never question his service to and love of this country, which I cannot say the same for his competitor.
Overall, I thought Palin showed us all that she is quite capable of debating with the well-established, crooked politicians like Biden that she and McCain claim to be attempting to clean-up in Washington- an admirable task.
Palin exceeded expections. I think that is obvious when Liberal CNN praised her with very few knocks except for the extreme leftwingers who wuld be afraid to throw any compliments her way. She has more experience to govern as a Vice-President than Obama does as a President. I like the fact that she is an outsider, however, there is nothing average about her, as she is a highly intelligent, confident woman. I remember when the Democrats were promoting “change” before and we got Jimmy Carter. What a disaster! We couldn’t wait until those four years were over. America, please don’t buckle in and believe this “change” notion again.
I’ll say here what I said elsewhere:
Palin constantly repeated slogans, while Biden went into concrete ideas.
She had clearly been coached over the last couple of days to repeat stock phrases and responses – when the topic went to something she wasn’t coached on, she just repeated an unrelated stock slogan and winked. Some here are claiming that this performance allowed her to win. I guess, like “Mission Accomplished” it’s all in the definition of “win”. If the goal was to come across as an attractive TV anchor cheer leading the faithful with catch phrases, I guess she did win. Or perhaps the definition of win is that she didn’t get pinned down on any question that shows how dangerously unqualified she is to lead this country in these troubled times – well, since she ignored any question on topics where she was un-coached, I guess that’s also a win.
Unfortunately for her and the GOP ticket, I define win as answering the question – whatever question – intelligently and in a Presidential fashion. After all, the role of the Vice President is primarily to be ready to serve if needed. By that standard, I think she failed miserably. If, heaven forbid, Joe Biden was needed to be serve, he would be ready on Day one. Palin would need months of coaching just to be able to spout catch phrases on unrelated topics.
The office of vice president is not the student council, it requires a command of domestic and world issues and how they work. Gov. Palin is likable and attractive but her ability to memorize pat lines and read notes will not do. If 72 year old McCain became ill or passed away, Palin would make the Bush years look like the good old days. The thought of her in charge of our country is scarey , she would be a greater threat to our economy and security than any internal or external source. Bush was elected because he was a guy you would like to have a beer with, look how that turned out.
Palin…won by a landslide? Good grief man, what debate were you watching? Biden was solid. Palin was one rehearsed and nuanced hokey cutsey-ism after another. ICK!
Palin was very smooth but I got the impression her message was memorized and she did not have any idea what she was talking about.
Not surprisingly, it’s only the neocons who support someone as unqualified as Palin as being the winner of this debate. That’s what makes me very sad for this very depressing country. Fortunately, the more intelligent, objective voters in this country seem to be leaning towards Obama.
If you like big government, Biden sounded like big government. Palin has not been in Washington so she lacks the politicians attack gene. She was fun to watch. Able to smile sometimes and answered like she was not drilled. Biden sounded like one of the good ole boys. He talked like a politician talks. I did think they both liked each other and that made it more of a peaceful gathering.
There was no winner. Each helped their party. As I have said many times. The two heads in the white house mean very little. You have to vote for a party that you agree with. If you like big government vote for the Democrats, if you don’t vote Republican.
Enough with the name calling. Even if you do not agree with Sarah is fine, but calling her an idiot is out of line and not true. I am tired of hearing about her lack of knowledge or experience in Washington. We have got people in Washington now like Biden with many years in Washington and boy they have really took care of us Americans. We need somebody without the Washington ties and that is what is appealing about Sarah. She is not an idiot and she is up to the job. Washington is corrupt on both sides and we as Americans need to take back government and get it back to what our founding fathers envisioned.
Sen. Biden clearly won Thursday’s debate. Biden addressed the issues and answered the questions asked. He discussed how Obama would make the middle class his priority, bring our troops home from Iraq responsibly, and restore America’s leadership in the world. Sarah Palin insisted on presenting rehearsed talking points even when they were non-responsive to the question asked. Her glibness, winking at the camera and flippant attitude were inappropriate for someone who aspires to a position of world leadership. On the other hand, Biden looked like a real vice president. He presented a clear case for why he and Barack Obama represent the change Americans need–away from eight long years of Bush-McCain policies. Palin’s talking points sounded a lot like a continuation of Bush. I was shocked when Palin stated that she agreed with Cheney’s expansive view of the vice president’s powers. It demonstrated that as a vice presidential candidate she either has no knowledge of the provisions of the U.S. Constitution or disregards them. Palin’s statements promoted economic policies that would shower tax cuts on corporations and the super-wealthy while leaving the middle class behind. McCain/Palin assure us of 4 more years of the same - a situation that this country cannot afford to risk.
Gweb Ifill in her effort to not show bias let Palin get away without answering several questions and let her ramble on to stump speech issues.
Israel won the debate. Either way Israel wins and we lose AGAIN. When the candidates first stop after being nominated is now Israel and not Iowa or Nebraska, that tells you who’s calling the shots.
Palin can’t claim victory just because she managed to get through the night without any major gaffes. Talking around questions to avoid sounding uninformed and repeating the same thoughts for 90 minutes does not mean you are the winner, it means you narrowly avoided another Katie Couric moment. Palin couldn’t name a single issue on which a McCain presidency would differ from Bush’s administration.
Biden’s responses were much more substantive, he answered all questions asked, and he highlighted his experience at several key moments. Was anyone else relieved to finally hear someone point out that McCain is no maverick when it comes to real issues?
Congratulations on winning the debate, Mr. Biden, and God be with your son heading off to the war today.
Biden appeared presidential; Palin did not. On another 9/11 (god forbid), I would not want Sarah Palin sitting in the Situation Room making decisions about how to keep America safe, shooting down planes from the our airspace, closing all transportation, etc. I don’t believe she is prepared for that — especially after this debate. She lacks substance.
Most of the National press refers to Palin’s comments
as “Folksy” and I’m sure all you liberal snobs here agree.
Between Ney York & La this nation is full of us
“knuckle dragging, folksy” people.
The Dems major talking point is “4 more Years of the same”.
with Obama as president that’s exactly what we’ll get
+ a whole lot of Socialism thrown in.
Palin was the clear winner!!! How can anyone believe one thing that comes out of Biden’s mouth? His record is clear that he is known for making up facts that are convenient for him and last night was no different. Untrustworthy is the first word that comes to mind when I think of Joe Biden.
Biden won definitely and positively. He was pretty impressive, articulate and to-the-point and seemed to be championing the true cause of the American middle class, grossly neglected especially since last eight years of Bush Jr. rule, by far one of the worst ever, in the 231 years plus years history of the country.
However, I have some reservations about the foreign policy doctrine of both the speakers in particular, when it comes to Israel, Pakistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
As far as Palin was concerned, she seemed to be acting like a robot and was not even sure of what she was talking about. She never precisely answered the questions asked and on most of the occasions, she was beating around the bush. How could she and her running mate be an instrument of change when they are more or less towing the same line and policies of Bush Jr. & Dick Cheney that have brought this great country to the brink of financial bankruptcy spearheaded by the two on-going futile, immoral and unethical wars, a historic down trend in the housing market, alarming rise of the gas prices more than 50 million Americans without health insurance, unemployment around 8%, and persistently rising cost of common food items?
I hope that ordinary Americans like me will ‘wake up’ this time and use their ‘power of vote’ to bring a real change by voting for Obama and Biden and all of their party candidates on November 04, 2008 otherwise we are for sure are doomed for complete disaster and destruction.
I don’t think anybody “won” the debate. Both were rather civil, Biden kept his foot out of his mouth and was fairly nice for a change, he kept referring to more of the Bush policies…but Bush is not running, and that phrase is getting old. Palin was solid, and was very confident sounding, refering alot to her experience…which can not be denied. (remember Bill Clinton was only a Governor of a sparsely populated State, with very little forien policy experience also and that was O.K. with the Dems) So I would call it a tie! These debates are not really debates anymore as a debate format goes…they are just question and answer periods with nobody winging it because they are all coached on what and how to say. I think if we never had anymore debates…no one would miss them.
One more thing… Palin and McCain do say they would try to clean up Washington and Wall Street from the massive corruption and greed, but those words DO NOT come out of Biden or Obama’s mouth…HMMMMMM?
90% of Americans are idiots and the lobbyists and special interest groups know this. These vaudevillian shows are just put on to fill the empty space in the idiots heads. These “candidates” are just there to put forth the views already instilled in them by their masters. They will say whatever it takes to get elected but have ZERO intention of doing any of what they say. Both sides have a clear agenda of serving Israel’s goals of world domination and to continue the money flow to Tel Aviv with yours and your children’s labor.
I know I will get a lot of grief for this but . . . what is the deal with everyone coming down so hard on Palin? The SNL spoofs, etc. If they pulled that crap about Obama on SNL, everyone would be screaming racist. But since she is a woman, it is like it is a free-for-all on her. Face it people, change is coming whether you like it or not!!
Palin spoke to the viewers as if we were in grade school. She is not qualified to be President and I think we’ve had it with the nation electing someone running on the “Washington Outsider” premise. Haven’t we learned it’s not a good idea to elect someone we “would want to have a beer with”?
Joe Biden did an excellent job refuting each one of her attacks and at the end she didn’t have a rebuttal for Biden’s final attacks. I thought she was just wanting it over at the end because she was being exposed for what she is which is a phony. How is she an expert on energy policy just because her state has natural gas and oil reserves?
Personally, I’m glad Sarah Palin is relatively “new” to all of this. She has not been corrupted by all of the politicians and BS in this country. She is refreshing and her pockets have not been padded by all the big companies and their big dollars!!! Let’s face it, the longer you’re in the rat race, the more hardened you get. She reminds me of someone like you and I who honestly wants what is best for our families. Give her a break!!!!
The United States is finished on the world stage. Time to pull out the hook. These other postings are validation of this post.
There’s no doubt the Obama express is in full gear devising several strategies to embarass and discredit Governor Palin after her superb performance during the debate. With regards to your poll question inquiring if (we the people) believed Governor Palin or Senator Biden were mean or warm during their debate. Who came up with that ridiculous question? Regardless, Governor Palin proved to everyone last night that she is confident and capable for the position of vice president and president if need be.
Sarah Palin is “someone like me”? I think not, and it’s insulting to me and millions of other Americans that I would be lumped in with an overwhelmed piece of John McCain “arm candy”.
I will admit she is probably a very nice person. She prepared well for the debate, exceeding expectations and appearing to read from her script. However, when expectations are for a train wreck and you avoid it, ANYTHING appears to be a success. When faced with questions, and relatively simple ones on the record of her running mate and even her choice of READING MATERIAL, she failed miserably. Is Sarah Palin qualified to be Vice President, or God forbid, PRESIDENT? I think not.
What I would say to Sarah: Go back to the hockey games, ask the library to ban more books, field dress a moose, root on Todd in his snow machine races and more importantly as a “family values” person go take care of your children because your daughter Bristol, in her situation, certainly has to need you more than America does…but DO NOT insult the intelligence of Americans by saying you are ready to be Vice President or President.
Is Obama and Biden the best choice America has right now?
To borrow a line from the “Eskimo Pie” herself: You betcha!
Wow! Because Palin did NOT completely make a fool of herself people think she won this debate???? I admit she held her own pretty well but she did not answer one question. I thank her letting us know she was the governor of an energy producing state and she supports nuke-u-lar energy.
She proved nothing.
Did anyone catch Sarah Palin when she called Biden “O’Biden?” He got a chuckle out of that!
Biden did an excellent job answering the questions that were asked of both of them. Palin on the other hand only answered one question throughout the whole debate. I’m not sure how far ebonics/slang along with a cute face is going to take her and Mcain. She is clearly out of her league. I never heard their plan on change, but only that there needs to be a change. Well, we all knkow that much by now I hope. But, I’m sure there are still some folks out there that think we’re doing just fine and need to stay the course.
America is being gutted out…just like the executives did Enron, but on a much larger scale by the Bush Administration.
A senior citizen that’s out of touch, and a cute hillbilly that doesn’t know anything outside of Alaska. Hold on to your money and assets, because if these two get in office things are going to get a lot worst than what they are now.
Oh, by the way my job is being sent to India..thanks Mcain.
Warm????? Palin was hot… Biden not so much…
Palin did better than expected but I was uncomfortable throughout the debate and couldn’t say why. It finally came to me that it was her familiarity. It was very off-putting. I am not looking for a best friend, I’m looking for a leader. Remember what an embarrassment Bush was when he met with foreign leaders, patting them on the back, etc. This country might be all right with Joe-Six-Pack as mayor but not as a worldwide representative.
Then there was her failure to answer questions as everybody noticed and she should have been called on that. Another example of her I’ll do whatever I want mentality. Might work in Alaska but would be a problem in Washington. These two examples makes me believe she is George Bush in drag.
My greatest concern, however, came when she said the Constitution allows for greater authority to be given to the Vice President. Obviously she doesn’t know what the VP does (as in presiding over the Senate) but greater involvement by the VP is pure Dick Cheney.
I wish Biden had ended his participation by saying that he is tired of McCain/Palin and their lies about Obama & taxes. No matter how often it is proven that their assertions are untrue they continue to tell them. Then say, “If you can’t win with the truth you don’t deserve to win.”
Biden was knowledgable, confident, thoughtful and polite. He answered the questions and managed to
look interested instead of astonished or bewildered by Palin’s prattle.
Palin was provincial, enthralled by her own point of view, ignorant, unimaginative, and offensively “cute”. She
was condescending and as humorless as a windup toy - repeating her own pre-conceived biases over and over.
palin looked and sounded like a highschool cheerleader trying out for captain of the cheerleading team. she was juvenile, immature, insincere and a total phony. we need dedicated, intelligent, honest, committed, adult people running the country. go back to the moose lodge and leave america in the hands of responsible people like obama and biden.dennis in st louis
I can’t believe the “tone and tenor” of this poll - warm? mean? Since when are these political terms? I expected a little bit more from you Post-Dispatch.
Ok, so how do people believe Palin won simply because she “exceeded expectations” (CNN analysis)? What, she didn’t s*ck, so she won? She didn’t get an “F” so she’s OK? She didn’t make a fool out of herself like she’s repeatedly done, so now she’s suddenly a superstar? The Valley Girl looks and talk may be endearing for 5 minutes, but they just don’t cut it from a woman who is supposed to be second-in-command. Give me Condi Rice any day.
Biden demonstrated solid intelligence and experience. Palin spewed campaign rhetoric without real substance. If she got past one sentence, it degenerated into incoherence. She rarely answered the actual question and I hate her cutesy, folksy act.
Simply by not drooling on herself Palin defied expectations. Does that mean she won? Simply because the bar was so low…well, because they practically buried the bar? I would say that she lost resoundingly. She had no mastery of the detail and seldom answered the question she was asked. She seemed cheesy and inauthentic with her winking and “aw-shucks” routine. A poor performance by any rational standard.
’m outraged by Sarah Palin’s blatant manipulation of both the facts and of the American voting public. She and her handlers are obviously counting on voters to not be paying attention, and consider us only as sheep if not just idiots. She said she agreed with [JOE] Biden about gay civil unions and the definition of the word “marriage”, and completely hid the fact that she and the McCain administration have no intention of making the benefits and rights of gay Americans equal. The only thing they actually agree on is that it shouldn’t be called “marriage”.
Well, I don’t care what you call it. I just want my constitutional right to an equal distribution of the 150+ federal rights, benefits and protections that go along with a legally recognized union. “Separate but Equal” has to actually be equal. The exclusion of civil rights to an entire segment of the American population is completely unacceptable. The answer to the debate over same-sex unions is very simple.
CHOOSE ONE:
(a) “I’m for equality.”
(b) “I’m a bigot.”
Biden won. He actually answered the questions he was asked, thoughtfully and effectively, with plenty of detail. Palin barely answered barely half of the questions she was asked, and even then with obviously rehearsed answers. I felt Biden connected more with reality and Palin was in her own little world, avoiding any substance and more concerned with pushing an image (”team of mavericks”. how many times did she say that?).
Boy! There is indeed a chasm of averse dichotomy here. The differences are stark and contrasting. Those that are pro-Palen are focusing on looks, personality and other extraneous factors. While Pro-Biden backers are stating issues, intellectual command, and pronounces readiness assume the office and lead.
We have been through this before where an American electorate has installed someone with whom they would, “really enjoy having a beer with”. Let’s be real, it is one thing to be likeable and cutesy. Then another thing to be able and ready to lead a great and diverse nation such as ours. I have to join the pro-Biden people here in saying he demonstrated beyond a doubt that he is head and shoulders the better Vice Presidential selection.
To even suggest otherwise we would be deluding ourselves into another chapter of political failure and economic discontent. With that said, I’m sure Mrs Palen is a nice person. However she is NOT of Vice Presidential qualification. If she does happen to get in, then the American electorate gets what it deserves.
Oops….had typos in my post.

Was it just me or was Gov Palins use of the term tolerant in referance to homosexuality a bit condescending?
In my veiw the most important issue our nation faces is the repair of our reputation around the world ,I did not find Gov Palin to be reassuring in this area at all. Biden won hands down!
It would have been nice if Biden would have told the TRUTH about John McCain’s voting and senate history. Other than that I enjoyed the debate and felt Palin did herself proud. and was the clear winner!!!!
It was very apparent that Ms. Palin escaped scuriny as to the looming scandals she is facing with “Troopergate”, and no questions were asked of her peculiar religous affiliation with the minister who asked God to protect her from witches. Moreover, she was not challenged to adhere to the rules of debate she had previously agreed to as she began by saying she would answer only those questions she felt like responding to, and she lived up to that by reliance on her memorized lines over and over again. It was also distressing that she thinks the Constituion confers “flexibility” on the Vice President’s legislative role. Biden pointed that out forcefully, noting that the only time the VP plays a significant role in the Senate is in cases where he/she would be called upon to cast a tie breaking vote. Biden also pointed to the fact that any effort by our current VP to place himself into the legislative framework was simply a power grab for the “Unitary Executive”, and unequivocally described Cheney’s reign as a catastrophe. In all, Biden was substantial and Palin was fluggy, cute and empty headed.
If by “win”, you mean parroting mindless slogans with a smirk and a heart of stone, game to Palin. If you mean demonstrating that you’ve got the right stuff to be President, it was Biden hands down.
I’ve got to give the edge to Biden in this one. Granted, I found Sarah Palin to be relatively competent at the start, and overall she was better than I expected, but that’s not saying a lot. In reality, all she did was not screw up, which isn’t enough for me to annoint her a winner.
The fact of the matter is that she frequently gave quick answers to questions she didn’t know anything about, solely so she could use the rest of her time going back to McCain talking points and hammering Obama. I can see her appeal, as she does seem to be a really nice person, but she doesn’t seem capable of independent thought, as evidenced by her rambling, repetetive answers later in the debate.
Here’s my Sarah Palin debate impersonation: “Maverick, maverick, energy, reform, maverick, nucular*, maverick.”
While Biden spent a lot of his time making salient points and defending the McCain/Rove attack points, I think he could have been stronger, especially when Palin brought up his constantly bringing up the past. A simple, “If we do not learn from our mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them” would have been sufficient.
I thought there was too much double-talk coming out of Sarah Palin’s mouth. On the one hand, Biden brought up the past too much, but on the other, they want to reform the government. How do they know what to reform without looking at the problems of the past? Towards the end, she said there hadn’t been any major points she’d had to compromise on in her career, because up there in Alaska, through bipartisan efforts, they’ve been able to work together and get things done. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that compromise?
So, not a win for Palin or Republicans when it comes to Independents, but I think it’s made Republicans feel a little better about McCain’s pick. Same for Obama and Biden. But I think more Independents will go to Obama and Biden as a result.
* Irks the hell out of me.
Anyone that thinks Palin is qualified for that role must be dead asleep at the wheel like Ms. Wassila is. Yikes. Thus proving that St. Louis is only a town that someone should visit to attend the funeral of their enemies. Wake up and see the world folks! Lord knows, Palin certainly is going to anytime soon.
For those who think Senator Biden was full of facts they should go to fact-check.
For those who think Governor Palin was full of facts they should go to fact-check.
Fixed.
I find it absolutely terrifying that some people are actually buying the crap Palin is peddling. She is no more qualified to be VP [or God forbid, President] of the US than Mickey Mouse. She has no real experience, dodges all of the real questions, and is basically an idiot. It scares me to death to think of that woman being one heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world. What are people thinking? Or are they thinking???
The next question that Palin answers from last night’s debate will be the first one she answers. That whole “aw shucks” type of stuff is what we have been dealing with for the last 8 years, and why we are in the state that we are today.
She comes off as someone who should be nothing more than the president of the local pta, and that’s probably a stretch.
Although I thought Palin handled herself well, the cheerleader routine worn thin with me. Biden actually addressed more issues where Palin seemed to just talk more. JMO
I thought it was dead even. The Palin is an idiot theme is way out of line. As far as the moderator, she had to be careful not to show bias for the BHO/Biden ticket. She also did very well.
What’s so stupid about “warm” and “mean”? Simplistic, sure. I don’t know about stupid.
I look at the debates like a job interview. Not “Dancing with the Stars”. While presentation, style points, and attitude are all worthy of consideration, what’s most important to me is who better articulates the problems that need to be fixed, and how they and their running mate intend to fix them. That’s why Biden proved he is much better prepared and qualified for the job. Winks, a cute smile, and a perky attitude don’t hurt, but in the end Palin’s case wasn’t convincing enough.
Now, disregarding their political stances and talking points, here’s my overall impression.
Palin: Positive, confident, well-spoken, a nice woman, and a good politician.
Biden: Strong, commanding, passionate, experienced, opinionated, a true statesman and an honest “Joe”.
Biden gets the job…
I’ve read countless entries attacking the lack of experience and qualifications of Governor Palin. To those individuals, Please enlighten me with the career accomplishments and political prowess that qualify Barack Obama to lead our nation. It seems that many of you are buying into his teleprompter lead, self-professions as a conduit of change, instead of realizing that he is the least qualified presidential candidate in history.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxxxGUeZtno
Palin is a turnip.
GL
I’ll readily admit that in the grand scheme of things, Barack Obama doesn’t have a lot of what most people consider applicable experience to be the President.
That being said, I don’t think there’s really any job that gives anyone adequate experience to be President. Sure, there are jobs that help, as far as knowing how the Legislature works, or how to run a state, but in the end those are just pieces of the puzzle.
People tend to look at experience as a number, as in, “Obama only has 2 years in the Senate” or “McCain has been in public office for 26 years”. The fact of the matter is that those are just numbers. Let me put it this way. Let’s say I’ve spent 10 years attending a University. Now, I might point to that and say I have a lot of higher-level education, but if I spent the whole time partying and drinking, and that’s why I was there for so long, then it’s irrelevant, isn’t it? What experience really is is what’s been learned in that time. I’m not saying that Obama has learned more in 2 years in the Senate than McCain has in 26, I’m just saying that experience is a moot argument.
The reason people keep bringing up Sarah Palin’s experience as an issue is because it shows that McCain himself doesn’t put too much stock in the argument himself. His attacking Obama’s lack of experience while choosing someone who lacks experience on a national level shows his hypocrisy.
Sure, she’s got the executive leadership, but if you look closer, you’ll notice she left her previously debt-free city wallowing in millions of dollars in debt. And, in the two years she has been Governor of Alaska, the money has been absolutely flowing into that state because of oil revenues, which I would imagine makes Alaska a pretty easy state to run, on the whole. I’m not attempting to diminish her accomplishments, just pointing out that the United States as a country is a completely different beast than Alaska.
Also, if you did some research, you learn that Barack Obama is not the least qualified presidential candidate in history. Continuing your experience=years analogy, Barack Obama has 2 years in the Senate and 7 years in the State Legislature. Woodrow Wilson only had two years as a Governor before being elected. You know him, right? The guy who got us through World War I. Theodore Roosevelt only spent 2 years as a Governor, 2 years in the State Legislature, and half a year as a VP. Surely you’ve heard of him, right? What about Abraham Lincoln? 2 years in the House and 8 years in the State Legislature, not too much more than Barack Obama. How was he as a President? Not too shabby, right?
Palin was very good w/ talking points but that was all, the winking, shoutout to the third graders, and we are just like you. Maybe works on people that can’t tell a shiny penny from a wooden nickle. But down here in south county we count our change because that’s about all we have left, after the Republicans have stolen and spent everything else.
Since when is not looking like an idiot grounds for winning a debate? Keep your folksy slogans — Biden took it hands down.
I’m baffled Palin is receiving praise for not fumbling over her own words. Let’s all pat her on the back for being able to speak!
Not surprised she lacked on any true substance to debate. I wish Biden had a real challenge instead of winks and talks of “Mavericks”.
Vince-Lincoln was not too shabby? What do you call invading the South? Suspending the bill of rights? Imprisioning editors who disagreed? Arresting the legally elected members of the Missouri Legislature and installing his own government? No wonder Missouri seceeded from the Union on October 31, 1861. Or does the truth offend you? Not too shabby, indeed.
God help us all if McCain wins, and something happens to him while in office. We’ll be a laughing stock to the rest of the world. How can anyone think she’s a good idea. PRESIDENT??????? I question whether she’s even qualified to be Governor.
Daniel-
Specifically I was referring to his abolishing slavery and, you know, actually keeping the country together. I think it’s fair to say there would be no United States today without him.
Also, last time I checked, it was Confederates who committed an act of war by bombarding Fort Sumter, a United States fort, and the US Army personnel therein. Are you saying that wasn’t an act of war? I know of weaker ones that led to war. I’d say his “invasion” was justified.
As LOW as the bar was set for Palin, I think she borke even.
As to who came off more VP as a candidate, definitely Biden.
I felt like the candidates were in two different debates.
Biden answered the questions of Gwen Ifill and Palin went off in space answering I am not sure who.
I have never considered myself a Democrate or a Republican but this election makes it easy to vote for Obama. I am disappointed in the Republicans for their ticket. It is down right embarrassing.
If this was a contest of being able to do better than people thought you could, Palin won.
If the winner shold be determined by who showed that they understood what it means to be the Vice President and showed they had the knowledge and ability to do the job, well then Biden was the only one on the stage at all.
What seriously bugs me though is that no-one seems to have noticed that Palin said that any “dangerous regime” should be nuked to prevent them the ability to “aquire nuclear weapons, period.”
Following is a excerpt straight from the transcript of the debate, see for yourself!
IFILL: Governor, on another issue, interventionism, nuclear
weapons. What should be the trigger, or should there be a trigger,
when nuclear weapons use is ever put into play?
PALIN: Nuclear weaponry, of course, would be the be all, end all
of just too many people in too many parts of our planet, so those
dangerous regimes, again, cannot be allowed to acquire nuclear
weapons, period.
Governor Palin talked about two issues we all care about. She said we need to “ramp up” funding for education, and we need to “build up [our] infrastructure”. I agree. But there’s a problem. Senator McCain has called for a spending freeze. Too bad the freeze doesn’t include freezing tax breaks on oil companies, or on corporate CEOs. The Republican VP candidate Palin gave us the standard Republican line: lower taxes mean more growth and more jobs. It certainly has meant more millionaires. But the latest sharp drop in U.S. jobs tells me that the Repblican approach has not worked.
Palin rarely answered a question, but responded with obviously memorized, robotic answers. She grinned when she didn’t understand something; the bigger the grin, the more clueless she was. She didn’t understand the term “Achilles Heel”, and some questions that she should have been able to easily answer, but didn’t-instead launching into a completely unrelated topic. Were she a man, we would say her showing was utterly disastrous. Frankly, she is charming, but simple-minded bordering on completely ignorant. Palin was so far out of her league on that stage. It was as if she was running for junior high president, particularly the dumb way she would look at the camera rather than the moderator. Biden on the other hand, was statesman-like, intelligent, calm, measured, and as knowledgeable on international and domestic issues as a human could possibly be. It’s simple and obvious to anyone who will speak the truth…Biden blew Palin away.
For Chris’ comment, “Palin showed she was a regular person”, I don’t WANT a regular person running this country, thank you. I want a brilliant mind, who listens to citizens, understand complex concepts, and has an intellectual curiosity, to run this country. Palin is definitely NONE of those things…she doesn’t even understand the questions, let alone have an answer beyond a memorized, yet still incoherent babble. Palin might be a good fit for junior high class secretary, but that might even be a stretch.
After viewing the debate, I felt Biden had won. At the start, I was looking forward to hearing Palin, just not at all impressed with her comments and responses.
I would like to extend an invitation to Gov Palin for my sons soccer tournament this weekend as I have a laundry list of questions that went unanswerd,…ofcourse I would hate to be accussed of “gothcha” journalisim when my questions veer from her talking points (straight talk my A$$).
Well done Senator Biden may god bless ans guide you as you take your place in history
Biden has been in the Senate for 35 years tell me what is he famous for. We need heros not anymore liers.
If you call
-reading prepared statements from cue cards
-not answering the questions asked
-straying off topic
-talking about expanding the job you are running for(VP)
-talking about ‘General McClellan’in Iraq
-talking about ‘Senator Obama and Senator O’Biden’
winning the debate, let me know what you’ve been drinkin’
oh, I forgot the best for last…
-”When John McCain tapped me…”
Once again, people need to remember this is not a popularity contest.
Obama has been accused of being too “hollywood,” but what do you think is going on right now with Palin? She is adorable, cute and beautiful but, that, does not make a good vice president. She is too much bluff with no substance.
Joe Biden did a super good job in a professional way, showing his experience, his standards and views in a passionate and yet, vulnerable way.
Everyone’s all giddy about how Palin did. Can you say low expectations? All she did was recite.
How can you be cheering for this women? So she held up in the debate? All she had to do was NOT fall over on the podium and she’d of done better than was expected! Everyone crucified Barack Obama for his lack of leadership or gov’t experience - but you’re all cheering Palin and she has LESS than he has? Hypocritical much? I found it scary that she could only refer to her ‘time as Mayor of a energy rich state’ when she had to back up her opinions with her experience. WAKE UP! SHE HASN’T EVEN BEEN A SENATOR PEOPLE!
Let this sink in: YOUR NEXT VICE PRESIDENT’S EXPERIENCE WILL CONSIST OF BEING A MAYOR. Understand this while your cheering on the cute and likable Palin. Well, likable to some. Her voice to me is like nails on a chalk board. Literally.
Can you imagine the implications of either Senator Biden or Obama winking at the moderator or the camera for that matter…..unbeliveable I felt like I was watching a bad I LOVE LUCY.
Folks this is for all the marbles we can’t afford to get it wrong vote Obama!!!
TMC - what was Obama before he was a Senator?
As for the tone and tenor: I want to know how many times Palin showed the pearly whites. What did she think the people wanted, some kind of beauty pageant?
Palin was downright rude to Biden on a number of occassions. He was the consummate gentleman, realizing her mental midget status, he backed off so as not to make it more obvious that she is not even close to being ready for the presidency. (Job description in the constitution is exactly the same for president and vice president.) Her generalizations and inability to come up with facts and figures show a substantive vacuum in her brain for intellectual activity. Ask yourself if we need another mediocre intellect for president. Look where it has already gotten us.
If anyone watching could not tell the difference between the sincerety of Sarah Palin, and the insincerety of Joe Biden, they shouldn’t be voting…you’re the reason our country is where it is today…..YOUR BAD CHOICES!!
Those of you who think Palin won are in complete denial that she is completely not of the caliber needed to be the V.P. or P. Wake up and admit that your ticket is a time bomb waiting to happen.
Hmmm, well Tam, I sure didn’t vote for George Bush. By the way, that IS your party.
hmmmm…joe biden “consummate gentleman”…ok
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM19YOqs7hU
Both candidates continuously circled back to agendas and talking points.
How can anyone say that Palin clearly won when all she did was repeat her rehearsed responses and when she didn’t have an intelligent ORIGINAL response of her own - she always returned to her scripted responses repeating them over and over and over.
Like most Democrats I was disappointed that Governor Palin did not implode. She held her own, but entirely on a superficial level. That appeals to some, but when the stakes are as high as they are in this election, I want someone who actually does read newspapers and magazines and can name them, can actually tell me about one or two supreme court decisions besides Roe v.Wade, actually knows the name of the General in command of the troops in Afghanastan, can tell me SPECIFICALLY what changes from the policies of the present administration these two mavericks will bring to Washington.
One thought kept creeping into my mind as I watched the “debate” last night, and that was “Does McCain REALLY expect us to allow this person to sit down with heads of state??”
I mean, like, gee, give her a shout-out for extra credit, but, doncha know that she just couldn’t begin to cut that?
To those who think Palin did a good job - are you kidding me??? Anyone can memorize facts … I’ll give her credit for that, but her intelligence level scares me - by, the way, what is her IQ? A possible leader of our nation - if you think we’re in trouble now, oh no!!!
I think the debate went well for both candidates. Most importantly, it’s over and now the focus of the campaigns can return to the heads of the ticket.
The comments I have been reading here do not reflect what the St. Louis Post states the vp poll tally to be, which looks decidedly in favor of Biden. Sounds to me like Palin won. Hmmm. Wonder if that’s because the Post is just another liberal rag. This is the last place I check for news. Palin has character, strength, patriotism, and the guts needed to stand up to anyone. I’d rather be voting for her as president, but for now I’ll be voting for the McCain/Palin ticket.
By the way, if Gov Palin, unlike Sen Biden, had choked up last night over anything, people would have critisized her…still a very sexist world.
McCain/Palin 08…..Palin/_______ 12
No one won. Biden and Palin are apples and oranges. Which do you prefer?
Palin is clueless on so many things, it would be dangerous for her to be a VP.
Palin redeemed herself in the fact that she is not as dumb as she seemed last week. Biden won, period. Palin is likeable and spunky but needs to stay in Alaska. Her response to what the VP’s responsibilities are was very scarry. Would she be worse that Smiling Dick? I sure do not want to find out.
What is the matter with all of you Biden fans? How is that one lie after another is ignored and deemed effective? How do you judge that as superior to Palin who is honest enough to be herself? She may not have the experience Biden has, but she is clearly educable and, as far as I’m concerned, Biden’s experience is in corruption. Make sure you watch Hannity’s America tonight on Obama and you’ll see exactly who you’ve fallen for. Charismatic? Geez….give me a break. He’s dangerous, and your sheep mentality is even more so.
Biden’s comments starting with “Barack and I” were almost laughable. Last year,he would not have even spoken to Obama. This year,Biden considered Obama not qualified to be President. If I felt that way about anyone, I would not consent to being his or her running mate. It is a character flaw that keeps me from wanting Biden any where the Whitehouse. His Pro Life stance is also being ask for clarafication by The Knights of Columbus, whose only motivation is totally church related. He thought he could have it both ways.Give me inexperience over sincere political purpose any day.
Donaldopinion, can you give me a link to a Biden statement that Obama is not qualified to be president?
