::UPDATE: The winner is…::

Congrats to Scott Lohse, who got 44 percent of the more than 1,000 votes in our contest! We’ll post more details about Scott when I get them. And thank you all for participating and voting.

* * * * * *

Friends:

Several weeks ago, we announced a contest in Talk of the Day inviting readers to submit their plans for how they’d use their five minutes with a candidate, if they got the chance. Read more here about the details of the contest, rules and whatnot.

Here, we’re linking to the five contest finalists and, below, you’ll have the chance to vote on which one you thought was the winning entry.

Sally Grosswasser: Deregulation with no “value added” creates a layer of brokers who profit, don’t share the risk and don’t enhance the outcome. Not only finance but energy, agriculture, meat processing, transportation, news media and other industries are at stake. Will you continue this Republican trend or finally reverse it?

Marc Haynes: You have decided to run for President of the United States. I have been granted five minutes to express my opinion and ask you your thoughts on it. I will do this by covering specific subjects separately.

Scott Lohse: My general dialogue with you, if I got the opportunity to have one, would have to do with inquiring about your opinion of what religion adds to public discourse.

Donald Miller: An online Powerpoint presentation - “Provide at least one SPECIFIC component of your plan and offer one POTENTIAL drawback to it also.”

John Moynihan: In my observation we are living in difficult, frustrating times. I don’t claim these days are any worse than troubled eras of the past. I do know that there have been better times during my lifetime.

VOTE BELOW FOR THE ENTRY YOU LIKED BEST

Which ‘five minutes with a candidate’ entry did you think was the best?

  • Scott Lohse (44%, 464 Votes)
  • Jack Grosswasser (35%, 368 Votes)
  • John Moynihan (20%, 214 Votes)
  • Donald Miller (1%, 8 Votes)
  • Marc Haynes (0%, 3 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,057

I like Donald Miller’s idea best. The candidates need to be pinned down on specifics about their separate plans. If I had the chance, I’d ask the candidates how they would counter the viewpoint of some people that the president serves largely at the behest of a plutocracy.

I couldn’t agree more with Mr. Loshe. I personally feel religion should be a part of our daily lives, and should be entertwined in public discourse. WWJD? TEAM LOSHE!!!!

Personally, I think Loshe has it all wrong. John Moynihan is very insightful though.

Personally, I don’t like where Lohse is coming from. For my money, only Moynihan has the guts to ask the real, tough questions that need to be addressed.

Moynihan, and all true Americans, will be heard!

Who are these Scores that keep posting bogus comments? This is a matter that should be taken seriously. Our country’s future is at stake. Go Grosswasser!

Ya know, it doesn’t take an eagle eye to figure out what’s going on here. I think these poll results are bogus. How is Grosswasser now in the lead? Any Tom, Greg, or Rachel could’ve somehow manipulated the results. Before all this weird voting started I seem to recall that Lohse was well in the lead, and that’s my winner. -Lisa Dicks

Don’t know who posted the comment above with my name. It was not me but glad you think I ‘rock’. I will look forward to discussing the election with you all in this format. Thanks to everyone who voted. These are times which are sure to make history after we have all voted - the more that we are involved in the kind of positive dialogue that we could have here the better tomorrow could be. Blog with you soon, Pastor Scott

If I had five minutes I would want to know why asset forfeiture was not part of the bailout program. We do this against drug dealers because their methods harm our socielty as a whole. I see no difference when used in the context of the bailout. The greedy rich preyed on the unknowning and unsuspecting. Yeah, it certainly applies here! You need our taxpayer money to save your business? Great, we get all of yours first Mr. Wall Street. And here’s a nice box under the interstate for you to live in!
