What should George Clooney do while he’s in town?

George Clooney

George Clooney

As we brainstormed this idea in the newsroom, my colleague Amanda St. Amand had a quick answer: George Clooney should visit her house! Put aside the fact that Mandy is married. She’d be happy to send him a MapQuest link to her abode.

But with the hunky movie star coming to town to film Up in the Air, we thought it would be fun to recommend stuff Clooney should be sure to do while he’s in the area. Crews were supposed to start setting up yesterday and production could be going on for about five months.

No idea yet how long Clooney will be in the ‘hood. But let’s assume it’ll be for a few months, on-and-off. Besides the Arch and the brewery tour (which I shared with my brother’s family over Christmas), what else would you recommend?

Oh, and one last thing: If you think this is a dumb topic, keep your thoughts to yourself and go over here, where I’m sure you can find a nice discussion about Iraq, or the banking crisis.

My wife thinks George should call her. She’d have him over for dinner. Not sure what she would have me do that night though.

Another option is my wife and all the women in her bookclub would love for him to come to a meeting and discuss the book of the month (Or probably anything else George would be willing to discuss as I am pretty sure the women would all sit there speechless.).

I am in total agreement with the other women by suggesting he comes over to my house. But he should go to some of our casinos and nightlife in St. Louis. There are many different places to go for fun and relaxation. I’m in different meetup groups that go around and do different things in St. Louis. I’ll keep an eye out.

Once the weather is a little warmer, he should check out the zoo and Forest Park. Maybe hit the casinos and have a nice Italian meal on the Hill. Of course, I’d be happy to be his personal tour guide. I hear he’s into cocktail waitresses (or was) but I was a waitress once. For a month. At an IHOP. Kind of the same, right?

I think he should call up Danny Devito and Brad Pitt, invite them to St Louis and head to the Dry Dock and get drunk.

George should eat on the Hill, go to Sydney Street, at least drive past the City Museum, have a drink with the local Drinking Liberally group, go to Crown Candy for homemade hot fudge, Merbes for candy apples, eat some Bosnian food in Bevo, take in some sports, check out the Monarch, go to the Contemporary, eat Black Thorn pizza, try a Schlafly’s beer, eat a Blueberry Hill (veggie)burger, yes he should do the Arch and see a movie at the Moolah. He should go get some Ted Drewes and tour Forest Park and Tower Grove. And of course he should go to a show at the Fabulous Fox, visit South Grand and then tell the world that St.Louis is pretty cool for a medium-sized Midwestern post-industrial city.

I do realize my list has a south city bias. :)
