What should George Clooney do while he’s in town?

George Clooney

George Clooney

As we brainstormed this idea in the newsroom, my colleague Amanda St. Amand had a quick answer: George Clooney should visit her house! Put aside the fact that Mandy is married. She’d be happy to send him a MapQuest link to her abode.

But with the hunky movie star coming to town to film Up in the Air, we thought it would be fun to recommend stuff Clooney should be sure to do while he’s in the area. Crews were supposed to start setting up yesterday and production could be going on for about five months.

No idea yet how long Clooney will be in the ‘hood. But let’s assume it’ll be for a few months, on-and-off. Besides the Arch and the brewery tour (which I shared with my brother’s family over Christmas), what else would you recommend?

Oh, and one last thing: If you think this is a dumb topic, keep your thoughts to yourself and go over here, where I’m sure you can find a nice discussion about Iraq, or the banking crisis.

My wife thinks George should call her. She’d have him over for dinner. Not sure what she would have me do that night though.

Another option is my wife and all the women in her bookclub would love for him to come to a meeting and discuss the book of the month (Or probably anything else George would be willing to discuss as I am pretty sure the women would all sit there speechless.).

I am in total agreement with the other women by suggesting he comes over to my house. But he should go to some of our casinos and nightlife in St. Louis. There are many different places to go for fun and relaxation. I’m in different meetup groups that go around and do different things in St. Louis. I’ll keep an eye out.

Once the weather is a little warmer, he should check out the zoo and Forest Park. Maybe hit the casinos and have a nice Italian meal on the Hill. Of course, I’d be happy to be his personal tour guide. I hear he’s into cocktail waitresses (or was) but I was a waitress once. For a month. At an IHOP. Kind of the same, right?

GC needs to check out The Hill…only the best food in town.

10:44 am January 6th, 2009

I think he should call up Danny Devito and Brad Pitt, invite them to St Louis and head to the Dry Dock and get drunk.

— Miley
10:45 am January 6th, 2009

George should eat on the Hill, go to Sydney Street, at least drive past the City Museum, have a drink with the local Drinking Liberally group, go to Crown Candy for homemade hot fudge, Merbes for candy apples, eat some Bosnian food in Bevo, take in some sports, check out the Monarch, go to the Contemporary, eat Black Thorn pizza, try a Schlafly’s beer, eat a Blueberry Hill (veggie)burger, yes he should do the Arch and see a movie at the Moolah. He should go get some Ted Drewes and tour Forest Park and Tower Grove. And of course he should go to a show at the Fabulous Fox, visit South Grand and then tell the world that St.Louis is pretty cool for a medium-sized Midwestern post-industrial city.

I do realize my list has a south city bias. :)

Visit the Hill, Dine at LoRusso’s Cucina

Head to Fast Eddie’s in Alton… there’s nothing like it in Tinseltown.

Visit the Hill & Dine at LoRusso’s Cucina. Visit the Delmar Loop & dine at Blue Bery Hill. Visit Museum of Transportation & dine at Annie Gunns. Get VIP tour of Lemp Brewery caves & lunch at Crown Candy. tour the Missouri Botanical garden.

Come to SLU and Penny Pitchers at Humphrey’s!!
or Basketball games at the new arena..
or fly out of this town whenever he is not shooting..

— Billiken
11:03 am January 6th, 2009

The Loop for all things… well… all things you might not see elsewhere in STL, Central West End and the Landing for the scene, the Hill for food, and Soulard for the food and feel of the place.

— ILSideJP
11:04 am January 6th, 2009

Of course he should do all the things that any tourist does in StL. After all that he should definitely check out Iron Barley- probably during the week as there is usually a line to get in on the weekends. Great food, great people, and great atmosphere.

— LouWho9
11:05 am January 6th, 2009

Don’t forget a trip to Ted Drewes!

— tina
11:05 am January 6th, 2009

George should check out the live music about town, security in tow, however I realize that is probably not possible given his celebrity. BB’s is one of the best places in STL but he should also stop by Oyster Bar and Venice Cafe. He should probably pick up a Gus’s pretzel, tour the Cherokee antique district and stop at the Taqueria while he’s there. Definitely a show at the Fox and why not Jazz at the Bistro while he’s in that area. He should tour the Cathedral Basilica and check out the mosaics; stop at the Art Museum, and for the finale - experience a St. Louis institution . . . a Jake’s Leg show!

He needs to eat on the hill. Mama Campisi’s, Zias, Cunnettos, etc etc etc………ALL THE DELIS and MARKETS TOO!!!!!!!!!

Go to a Blues game! Bring them some good luck

11:20 am January 6th, 2009

All the suggestions so far are great…but how about visiting some local schools or Cardinal Glennon Childrens hospital? Or help feed the homeless at Sts Peter and Paul Community Services.

I like Hoosiergirl73’s suggestions…but would include a TOUR of the Fabulous Fox maybe before he goes to a show, a TOUR of the Cathedral Basillica (the second largest collection of mosiacs in the world), and go to our Mardi Gras celebration!!! He could dress up and be totally anonymous there without a problem!

— DeeD
11:30 am January 6th, 2009

Stay away from the police dept. and out of the impound lot.

— Kenrick
11:32 am January 6th, 2009

Since George boy is a beer drinker, I think that he should visit the smallest tavern in the city of St. Louis, Silverleaf. The good ole boys in there would certainly entertain him. Plus, he would not get swarmed by anyone there. He could actually sit back and enjoy a beer with any bother.

— cbracken
11:33 am January 6th, 2009

He should visit the eastside and tour the many adult clubs that are at his disposal. Hustler Club or Diamond. Just ask for Sunshine Georgio, don’t bother with these boring housewives who have just come off of over eating during the holidays and are in sad shape…You want a real woman, look me up…

— Sunshine
11:38 am January 6th, 2009

he can go barhopping with me.
he might make a decent wing-man.

— CHRISTOPHER S.
11:44 am January 6th, 2009

Well, if he doesn’t come to my house maybe either he can meeting me in the Central West End or Midtown. SubZero for vodka, sushi and burgers would make a great date! Some Jazz at the Bistro may be relaxing! Or a nice bottle of wine at Triumph Grill!

— SMF
11:45 am January 6th, 2009

He should fall in love with me and whisk me away.

— Tammy
11:49 am January 6th, 2009

He should visit Citizen Kane’s in Kirkwood. Its the best steakhouse in the midwest. The Delmonico steak is the best I have ever had. Its all I get when I go.

— Joe Docter
11:50 am January 6th, 2009

GC needs to call John Goodman and hang out with him when he comes in. SOUTH SIDE Style
Also an imos pizza should be in order there and Ted Drews to finish it off.

— Todd
11:50 am January 6th, 2009

He’ll stay in his suite at the Four Seasons and that will be it. Nothing to see/do in this cowtown. Would probably get robbed if he ventured out downtown.

— AJ
11:52 am January 6th, 2009

Rats! I missed George Clooney when he was here in Switzerland. He was in Zürich at a $1000 a ticket party for Obama which I couldn’t afford on my teacher salary. Now he’s going to be in my home town, and my Fulbright doesn’t end until June. Oh well. He’s very interested in international issues like refugees and global warming. Send him to the International School to meet some of the people who are coming to St. Louis from all over the world. Then send him to the Missouri Botanical Garden. Dr. Peter Raven can fill him in on what our world class garden is doing to preserve endangered plants and to catalog plant life which may have medicinal value. Then send him back to Switzerland. I’m in Basel, and I would love to meet him!

— Diane
11:55 am January 6th, 2009

Once he’s here for a few weeks, he’ll probably decide how to push up production a little and get out of town. Pretty tame here when you have to compare it to the culture and beauty of Lake Como.

— 1buschstadiumplz
11:56 am January 6th, 2009

It would be cool if he visited some of the Visual and Performing Arts School in the SLPS district and talk to the drama students about what it takes to get where he is. That would be educational for the students. I would love to see him at my school.

— SLPS Teacher
12:01 pm January 6th, 2009

Great Topic, I love it!!!

I think George should visit St. Patrick’s Center. He could see what wonderful work they do there, and it would show him that not everyone who is religious is a bad person. Many religious people spend their time doing really great things for others. Too bad no one ever talks about them.

After that, he should come pick me up for our date wearing one of those really sharp tuxedo’s that he wears on award shows. Then, he should take me to dinner at Tony’s in Alton, and after that we can go get our party on at Fast Eddie’s. That should give him the range of high class to low class!

After that, he should take me back to his hotel room, close the door, start slowly undress…

Whoops, I got away with myself a little bit there! Sorry! :)

What about the Science Center, Art Museum, or the History Museum???

He could always go to the pink slip. :) Who can’t use a lap dance.

I think George should join me and my daughter for dinner at the Original Crusoes on Osceola and Compton on Tuesday nights. :)

He can go out with me!

— Nancy

I think he shoud hit some non-popular places and tip like crazy!!! (make some peole around here a bit happier)

— PittFan
12:25 pm January 6th, 2009

If he’s a golfer, my husband will host him at our country club on a nice day. There are some great local restaurants in our area (or we can eat at the club) that we can quietly enter and he can relax and enjoy. It would be a delight to meet him (that’s an understatement, but I’m married) and have a chance to know him as a person and not focus on his celebrity status!

— Susan
12:26 pm January 6th, 2009

1. Breakfast at First Watch on Lindbergh, then hitch a ride to the History Museum. Spend a few hours taking in the exhibits.
2. Take a walk around Forest Park, stop at the Jewel Box and smell the flowers.
3. Take the Kingshighway bus to Kingshighway and Southwest, walk a few blocks to Shaw’s Garden. Wander around the Garden until lunch.
4. Take a taxi to 14th and St. Louis Avenue. Enjoy a Heart Stoppin’ BLT and Crown’s. Try to drink 5 milkshakes in 20 minutes.
Stagger out of Crown’s and admire the newly restored architecture of the 14th Street shopping district.
5. Walk up to North Florissant and take the Natural Bridge bus to Broadway and Washington. Walk a few blocks to the Arch. Admire the most beautiful structure ever built by human’s. Take a ride to the top.
6. Stroll along the riverfront. Wonder why nothing is going on there.
7. Take a taxi to Union Station and take a Segway Tour.
8. Make friends with a few locals and take them to dinner at Rigazzi’s. (I’ll gladly volunteer to be the local)
9. Walk off dinner, in Tower Grove Park.
10. Hire a limo to the Fox and catch a live show.
11. Take a taxi back to the Ritz and fall asleep in silk sheets.

12:27 pm January 6th, 2009

I think he should leave and send Colin Farrell to take his place.

It would be more fun, and the movie would probably be better, too.

— GeorgeIsLooney
12:30 pm January 6th, 2009

I think George should put on a bluegrass concert at the new downtown casino, and afterwards, rob its vault with high-tech gadgetry, and give some of the cash to the Cardinals so they can go out and hire some much needed pitching. Maybe the Cards be willing to spend someone else’s money since they don’t want to part with theirs.

— TrueIsTrue
12:32 pm January 6th, 2009

If George is coming looking like the photo on the index page of Stltoday,(not this page) he better get a shave,or some policewomen will pick him up for vagrancy. No telling what happens then.

I was moderately impressed when I saw him in Oh,Brother,(only movie I’ve ever seen of his) but when I found out he lip-synched for Dan Tyminski, my opinion went down. IMO, he’s only about a 6 on the hunky scale, though he does have attractive eyes.

I have no idea (nor do I really care) what Mr. Clooney likes to do for fun, so it’s hard to make recommendations. Being dragged around to every village landmark doesn’t seem like much fun to me. A nice cruise on the Mississippi, including a water tour of the confluence, would at least get him away from the designing women around here. If he needs some suggestions where to go to relax where no one cares who you are, I have some nearby suggestions for retreats. Movie making is grueling work; most people don’t want to leave the set to look for more excitement.

— Teresa
12:37 pm January 6th, 2009

If he’s here in late February he should check out Soulard Mardi Gras.

— joardar73
12:41 pm January 6th, 2009

George needs to finally come out of the closet. He should do it while on the Delmar Loop for that matter…

— Tim
12:41 pm January 6th, 2009

I’ll play tour guide for a night and we won’t have too much travelling to do. First stop, Broadway Oyster Bar for several dozen Oysters (raw, Rockefeller, Bienville and some shooters) with Abita chasers. Next stop, Beale on Broadway for an acoustic set and a few pints of Guinness. Finally, stroll across the street to BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups for a kickin’ blues show and some wings and whatever beverage sounds tasty.

— hubers6
12:47 pm January 6th, 2009

I think a given for him to see is Forest Park and The Zoo, oh and the Science Center, Crown Candy is a MUST, The City Museum at night, when the bar is open, and maybe listen to Jake’s Leg at the Broadway Oyster bar, and end the evening with a trip to Courtesy Diner. Perhaps a stroll down Delmar in the Loop.

Then a nice place for him to visit for both the kids and the nurses (and administration staff, too!) would be Ranken Jordan Pediatric Speciality Hospital, a 100% not-for-profit pediatric hospital in Maryland Heights. Plus they are hosting an annual fundraiser dinner/auction at the Kemp Auto Museum in Chesterfield on January 31st! So he’d get amazing vehicles to see, a great meal, open premium bar and all for a great cause!

Come to SLU fo sho!

— Logan
12:53 pm January 6th, 2009

He should support the local arts at the Saugtet Ballet

— greg
12:55 pm January 6th, 2009

George should go to the hill there is very fine dining there like Gian Tony’s. And if he doesn’t want to go to the hill there is also Megglios (Bridgeton, MO). There is something for everyone in St. Louis.

— Leah
12:57 pm January 6th, 2009

Rent or borrow a motorcycle (or bring his own) and ride up Highway 79 to Louisiana, cross the Mississippi and then go South to Grafton. Might spot some eagles on the way, and can then have a meal at the Fin Inn.

— John
1:00 pm January 6th, 2009

Well since the movie will be shooitng in Affton High School. He should visit Affton Cafe.

— Sarah
1:02 pm January 6th, 2009

Visit with lots of his long, long time fans here in St. Louis. Ms. Jean Melcher who I have worked with for 11 years is a long time full fleged fan of George. She would love to meet him and I would love that to happen for her also. Write me and lets surprise Jean please.

— Renee Jostad
1:05 pm January 6th, 2009

I think a lot of married sluts of both genders will be chasing George, including Kurt! Leave the poor guy alone. He probably has his watering holes already scoped out. Thank god for small airports so he can fly out of here each night.

— David
1:06 pm January 6th, 2009

if he’s smart he will do what most celebrities that are stuck in small towns do. Stay in the nicest hotel around, order room service and hookers and maybe hang out at lumier place once in a while if we little people are lucky.
Celebrities that big don’t really venture out amongst the populace very much, would you? This city would mob him like he was a rugby ball.

— larry
1:12 pm January 6th, 2009

Nothing better than some springtime bass and crappie fishing!!

— Prngr44
1:12 pm January 6th, 2009

I think he should invest in St. Louis and buy the St. Louis Rams & Cardinals. I think he would have a better chance turning these two organizations around. We might even be able to use him as a starting picture Cardinals or an offensive lineman for the Rams.

— rrektb1
1:15 pm January 6th, 2009

Hey George- Im sure there’s lots more to do in this town than I’ve ever done, but my suggestions are the same as some others with one addition. Yes - check out the Fox Theater. I’m sure it’s one of the most beautiful and elegant places inside that people have ever seen. Absolutely Spectacular!! And for a lo key and casual meal - definitely Fast Eddies! A mid afternoon lunch during the week should be pretty quiet, and they have THE BEST, COLDEST around. Some even say that Bon-Air is the #1 volume bar in the world! http://www.fasteddiesbonair.com/?mpf=frame And if you want your heart touched, go see Randy Grim at the Stray Rescue of St Louis. http://strayrescue.org/ I know you love animals (sorry to hear your pig died awhile back), and Randy has committed his life for his passion of saving the strays on the streets of St Louis. He’s a true hero and God-send to all the strays in St Louis that may have died a horrible death if not for him. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

— PetMommy23
1:19 pm January 6th, 2009

it would be super if he would visit the Childrens Hospital and Nursing Homes.Carol Burnett always did this when out of town.

— martin
1:22 pm January 6th, 2009

Maybe he can put on the old mullet from his Facts of Life days and pal around with the yahoos around here who just have to take a dig at St. Louis.

George enjoy yourself while you are in town. Hoepfully he will find it nice and accomdating and help promote St. Louis for furture movie making opportunities.

— jay
1:34 pm January 6th, 2009

I think he should have dinner with Larry Rice and visit some of the homeless spots around town.

— first tom
1:36 pm January 6th, 2009

He definitely needs to go up in the arch–get a good look at the city from up there. I don’t care how cold it is while he is here, he must try Ted Drews!!

— Shannon
1:38 pm January 6th, 2009

I think he should take a 2 hour drive & visit us at the Lake of the Ozarks.
It’s a beautiful place to visit even during the winter.
Lodging would be free since he could stay at Brad’s place.

— pebbleslo
1:39 pm January 6th, 2009

George, you ought to check out some other things that us hoosier Missourians like to do out side of St. Louis when we are not on Washington Street clubing it up, or at the ball game drinking a Bev Light. These things could include, but are not limited to, going to Party Cove at the Lake of the Ozarks, going to Mudfest in Robertsville in the spring time and getting down and dirty, seeing a Demolition Derby, or even a Tractor Pull! There is nothing at our zoo or museum that you haven’t seen elsewhere, but do go to the Hill and Ted Drewes.

— Grizzly
1:40 pm January 6th, 2009

Spend a long weekend trout fishing at Montauk State Park; weekend catch & release season is going on now, and catch-n-keep season opens March 1!

— Rocki
1:40 pm January 6th, 2009

Welcome, George, to Missouri — the “Show Me How to Drive” state!

Please know that not everyone here adds “rs” to their words — waRsh, for example, as in “I go to Warshington University” or is lazy with their “os” — the infamous highway 44 becomes farty-far, where you drive to get yar carn farks. Etc.

:-)

As for what to see or where to eat, there are the standards as mentioned above as well as little out of the way places such as Murdoch Perk (for breakfast — haven’t yet been there for anything else) and Van Goghz on Shenandoah and Compton. While you’re in that neighborhood, you can check out the beautiful homes in Compton Heights. There are a couple other places that are musts, but the names are eluding me right now. I’ll write again.

— Maddie
1:47 pm January 6th, 2009

Shaved Duck….

Iron Barley….

Yumanji (sp?) for Brazilian….

Hmmm…

Onesto (sp?) for pizza….

Alandale’s in Kirkwood — especially for blackberry wheat if they’re brewing it….

— Maddie
1:52 pm January 6th, 2009

Why on earth would you want to take him to Rigazzi’s - come on. The Hill is great but he’d be better off at Lorenzo’s, Dominic’s or Favazza’s.

— Whatareyouthinking?
1:58 pm January 6th, 2009

I think George should give me a call. I’ll take him to the Zoo, complete with elementary aged escorts and then we’ll head either to Pho Grand or to LoRusso’s, depending on what everyone’s in the mood for, before swinging by Ted Drewe’s. We’ll probably need to do some more walking to get rid of the extra calories so I’ll introduce him to St. Charles’s Main Street and we’ll visit the First State Capitol. I think he’d enjoy experiencing O’Fallon’s nightlife by being a ride-along with OPD. If he makes it all the way to the end of the midnight shift, I’ll treat him to a slinger at Courtesy Diner.

— SocialKim
2:08 pm January 6th, 2009

hmmmm…..keeping George busy…well I have a few ideas…but after that there are lots of things to do in a beautiful and historic city…I would start with a driving tour of all the beautiful cathedrals and churches the city offers (old cathedral, new cathedral, the great cathedrals/churches near Kingshighway/Forest Park/Central West End, then to the south side cathedrals working up to Soulard). Next we would visit the market and start a good pub crawl in Soulard working down to Cherokee/Lemp and maybe dinner at Lemp Mansion, or a trip to Venice cafe. Next day we would do a great architecture tour of City Hall, Union Station, the fine turn of the century homes (Second Empire, Richardsonian Romanesque) in Compton Heights, Lafayette Square, Benton Park, Central West End/Lindell Blvd. Maybe we would drive to St. Genevieve to see some of the only remaining French Creole vernacular architecture in the country. We would visit Campbell House Museum, a stroll through Lafayette Square Park, Shaw’s (Mo Botanical) Garden, a drive through Tower Grove Park or Carondolet Park and St. Louis Hills, the Loop and Blueberry Hill, Forest Park, ice skating at Steinberg, a zip down art hill on a sled, the art museum, the zoo, the Planetarium, the Chase Park Plaza for a drink, visit the Muny (in summer) for free seats, the Fabulous Fox for a show, dinner on the Hill, Imo’s pizza…

— expatStLouisan in VA
2:09 pm January 6th, 2009

I think he ough5t to kick back in a nice suite and just cool it , order room service or eat in the motel. He doesn’t have to entertain people just so they can claim to be a big shot telling everyone they know Mr Clooney.
George you have all your private time taken up in Tinsel town , kick and do what you want to do , not us.

Thanks for the time Art Bishop

— Art Bishop
2:24 pm January 6th, 2009

He should go to the Art Museum, it’s really one of the best in the country. He should also take a drive up the Great River Road. And once he’s had enough culture and history, a day trip to Sikeston for some Throwed Rolls!

— scibabe40
2:30 pm January 6th, 2009

I agree with Grizzly. There are some fine upstanding things to see in St. Louis, but nothing that will beat the bigger cities you’ve been too. To get a taste of Missouri, befriend a hoosier and have him/her take you to their stomping grounds in central MO where you can hang out with the locals and ride ATV’s and 4×4 trucks, maybe do a little rock crawling or mud running, all while drinking ice cold beer and listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd. And if it’s warm, head to Party Cove. That atmosphere can’t be found anywhere else in the country! But be prepared to catch a little grief for being so liberal, all good natured though. Good times!!

— Merkin Man
2:33 pm January 6th, 2009

good ol george should come to chesterfield mall and buy a sleep metrics bed from the bedroom store. then go on opra and jump up and down on the couch about it.

— Johnny
2:36 pm January 6th, 2009

He should visit the St. Louis Zoo, a winner in any weather. If it’s raining, head to any of the “indoor” exhibits. No visit is complete without a turn on the Zooline Railroad. Unfortunately, that’s not open until April, but he can always substitute a ride on the Conservation Carousel.

— Patty
2:37 pm January 6th, 2009

Hey George- Welcome to St Louis! I agree with a few comments her and have one of my own. First, the Fox Theatre is an ABSOLUTELY AWESOME place to see. It is so beautiful and amazing on the inside - something I’m not sure a lot of people get the chance to see a place like this. Would be a great place to shoot another movie! : ) http://www.fabulousfox.com/photo_gallery.aspx Then there is Fast Eddies - a very laid back, causal place. A mid afternoon meal during the week should be pretty quiet. Some say it serves the most beer in the whole world. And the beer is ICE COLD! The food is also simple but delicious! Try a Kabob or big Elwood on a stick! http://www.fasteddiesbonair.com/?mpf=frame The, if you want your heart touched, visit Randy Grim at Stray Rescue. I know you like animals (sorry you lost your pig), and Randy has dedicated his life to his passion of saving the strays of St Louis from a horrible slow death by literally going out and finding them, picking them up off the streets, and taking them to his shelter to care for them until they are healthy enough to adopt out. His story truly is amazing. http://strayrescue.org/ Hope you enjoy your visit!

If it snows he should sled down Art Hill.

— Steph
2:41 pm January 6th, 2009

George should eat at Yacovelli’s Restaurant, family owned now in it’s 4th generation of our family serving St Louis since 1919. We are very excited to be celebrating our 90th anniversary this year. 1919-2009
We love you George! Welcome to St Louis!

Hey, George -
Fall in love with a talented blonde (from Illinois) while you’re here, and hear our world-class symphony while you’re at it:

I think he should contact Gerrard Butler and the rest of the crew from the movie “The Game of Their Lives.” They had such a good time here that many of them paid their own way back for the premier!

The Basilica is a must… I’m impressed myself that it’s right here in St. Louis! The first time I walked in it I was floored.

Also… just for fun… dinner and ghost tour at the Lemp Mansion…

I also agree with the post that mentions Fast Eddie’s. That’d be hysterical.

And of course… all the basics… Forest Park and the museums, The City Museum, Delmar Loop, CWE, Soulard/Soulard Market, Lafayette Sq. Park, The Hill, Washington Avenue… etc… etc…

Maybe George should take a tour of our school systems and figure out a way that he and his well off friends could help out Middle America?

I think George should visit Winghaven in O’Fallon, I’d gladly show him around town:-)

— Karen
2:46 pm January 6th, 2009

George should check out the South City Diner on South Grand, open 24 hrs Fri, Sat, Sun. Feathuring one of the best people watching spots along with the Lou’s best burger, the Big Daddy Burger.

If he’s bored on a Sunday morning, then he could visit my church http://www.arkofsafety.cc and hear the best gospel music in the St. Louis area.

Oh, and as much as I love George Clooney, (and I do), I am really hoping he doesn’t bring his new girlfriend Paris Hilton along with him.

She’ll just run around buying out all of the good handbags and shoes, and there will be none left for the rest of us.

So selfish!!!

— Joey
2:51 pm January 6th, 2009

Mr. Clooney DEFINATELY needs to visit FAILONI’S on Manchester in Dogtown on any THURSDAY nite…..the watering hole that all the celebs visit when in St. Louis!

2:53 pm January 6th, 2009

What I LOVE about St. Louis is there are so many different places to go. You have the Central West End, Laclede’s Landing, West Port Plaza, Delmar Loop, Soulard etc. I love to take people all those places and just hang out and people watch. Of course in his case, that might not work out so well. Depending on what kind of interests he has, St. Louis is sure to have it!!! Welcome George!!

— Sharon
2:53 pm January 6th, 2009

Having lived in St. Louis for two years (I’m a middle-aged white guy who’s lived around the country), I think Cluny’s best options for free time are shuttling up to Chicago and taking a few days back on the West Coast. St. Louis is marked by 2nd rate dining, class B entertainment, people who think more of themselves than the should, and boredom.

As for the recommendations about Italian dining on the Hill, a visit to Little Italy in NYC, Philadephia, Baltimore or even Pittsburgh who demonstrate what trash is served by the Italian restaurants on the Hill.

While there’s lots of money in St. Louis Country, the area is far from being vital and dynamic. It’s really time for a reality check.

2:53 pm January 6th, 2009

Since Clooney is a classy kind of guy he might want to check out a classy store like Seitz Violins in the Carondelet/Boulevard Hgts neighborhood (Mayor Slay’s new hood). Heck they could even film a scene for the movie here if it works out!

Some of us are under our married names..so sad.

3:00 pm January 6th, 2009

We would like to offer George and his staff our country house for a weekend to relax from all the filming, eating, touring, gambling, book reviewing, and fan fare that could make anyone want to get away from it all. It’s only 35 minutes from St. Louis, privately located on 30 acres with a lake, fireplaces and a well stocked wine refrigerator. It’s brand new, surrounded by horse farms and would be a great opportunity to showcase our Missouri countryside. And they could have it totally to themselves over any weekend.

3:10 pm January 6th, 2009

After reading all of the responses about invitations to their homes, I realized it would be rude of me not to invite George to our house for a home cooked meal. I’ve got some Porterhouse Steaks from Shop ‘N Save in the freezer. I could also make bow tie pasta with smoked salmon in a buttercream sauce, buttered Brussels Sprouts with bacon. For dessert we could have homemade Creme Brulee. Then we could (or would have to) visit the fine cardiology center at St. Johns!

I know nothing about George other than he is a good looking celebrity and is a pretty good actor. I hope he enjoys the best, the brightest of our fair region, both STL and Illinois without being mobbed by fans each day. As far as all those fans who want to have him for dinner, what would you talk about after 10 minutes? Some really great ideas for activities in all of these posts, I’ve lived here almost all my life and didn’t know there was so much to enjoy - I hope his people read them all the ideas and he does experience the town, but he won’t be able to enjoy himself at all if he gets mobbed everywhere he goes. I wouldn’t mind being an extra, just to say to my kids “there I am, the one in the middle of the crowd!” and Kurt, I think it would be nice if you found out for us how we go about being extras!

I would suggest checking out downtown’s Central Library. A beautiful 100 year old building, a quiet place to escape the crowds and the set. He can request books online and they will have them waiting for him when he arrives. The perfect place on a cold winter day. Then he wander over to Washington Avenue for something to eat.

— liz

When he wants to relax and get away from it all for a while, he should stop by The LIT CIGAR on Big Bend in Webster. Great place to unwind, plus privacy!

George should head over to the Mattingly Brewing Company 3000 S. Jefferson, nice people, great food, new brew!

hey and on Sunday he can stop in at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church http://oakhillpcusa.blogspot.com/2008/09/roller-derby-adult-fellowship.html
4111 Connecticut, we’re having a luncheon after church to talk about our upcoming mission trip to Eastern Kentucky……more nice people, great food, but no brew….come anyway! Church is at 11am

3:59 pm January 6th, 2009

Tim, thanks for enlightening me. I never really thought of myself as a sexually frustrated housewife. I guess that’s because I’m a guy.

If you look a most of the posts, they’re either trying to be helpful about St. Louis (the St. Louis way), or are written in good fun.

As far as being an extra in a movie, trust me, if you do its, you are a human prop. Back in 1978 or so, they filmed a picture called “Dreamer” with Tim Matheson and Susan Blakely. I was an extra in the movie. I was there 18 hours over two days and got paid $36 (minimum wage). I was offered the chance to do it a third day but declined. I got to meet Tim Matheson who was at that time very sociable. It was cool, but I’m not sure I’d do it again, although I am on film.

4:12 pm January 6th, 2009

Go to a St Louis Blues Game!!! Might enjoy Fox Theatre, if here when Cardinals play that would be good too!! Get a taste of THE HILL!!! PF Changs in Chesterfield, visit some hospitals. Visit Historic Main St in St Charles.

On days not filming tour the state and enjoy the stites such as Meramec Springs in St James, MO might even enjoy opening day of trout season (March 1).Might also enjoy the winery’s in that area or in the Hermann area.

Fly to Sikeston to Lambert’s for throwed rolls!

I highly recommend the White Castle north of I-270 on New Halls Ferry, the Jack in the Box on Nameoki Rd. in Granite City. For a more refined evening fast Eddie’s in Alton fits the bill and if it’s crowded Eddie’s on Nameoki in Granite City is a Fast Eddies knock off. $20 at any of these should get you four star service. Bon Appetit George!!

George should hear Chuck Berry play in the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill in the Loop. He ought to eat at Ramon’s in Collinsville, Illinois. Maybe he should try SweetPie’s restaurant in Saint Louis proper.

But then again, I have no idea what George likes to do other than ride motorcycles and date.

— jan
6:56 pm January 6th, 2009

He should go to PAUL MANNO’S CAFE for THE BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN ST LOUIS. Way better than the Hill. And he should come visit me at work at the bank. And I would also be more than happy to escort him to my hometown of Alton, IL, where we would visit Fast Eddies, get drunk, and then go to that eyesore of a riverboat casino for gambling and Limoncello.

I was born Frances A. Clooney in 1944 to Leo R. Clooney the grandson of Michael Clooney of County Kilkenny Ireland. All the articles I’ve read about Rosemary was that her family also came from County Kilkenny I believe it was Andrew Clooney. They came from a small town just south of Mullinavat Ireland where my great, great grandfather Michael Clooney came from. We are not a very common name and it would be great if he could meet with the Clooney people in St. Louis, Mo.

He should visit my friends and I in Oakville, especially if he likes to play scrabble and drink marguaritas. We could listen to music, sing, dance and maybe even bring out the wigs and hats.

9:29 pm January 6th, 2009

George, I think you should visit RiverCity Films while in town and give us some helpful hints,314.570.9204..we have some great movies in the can. You should also make a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks, just over 2 hours away, and a beautiful ride. Theres more boats and shoreline on the Lake than the entire West Coast, sounds crazy but true. When you visit, we can find you a place to stay I am sure. We can even satisfy your need for speed, we have boats here that can take you out for a 200mph+ ride. We build docks here at the Lake for some of the largest Marina’s in the country, we would love to have a dock design with your stamp of approval, come vist Ozark Village Docks, http://www.wecoveryouraft.com and when you want to send mail home visit St. Louis Presort on the HIll, http://www.stlouispresort.com and just in case you are looking for a home here to call your own, check out this Castle 20 minutes outside downtown http://www.5700montebello.com Enjoy your stay in Missouri, we have everything to offer..Cpt. George, someone might tell you to visit Kimmswick Missouri, if they do just watch your back, it is one of the only towns in Missouri where they can hug you and stab you in the back all in one motion. It once had a riverboat restaurant, a steak house, and interesting shops to visit, now there are only a few shops left worth visiting, Bunny patch, wood carving shop (cool wooden flowers) and a few more. There are a ton of vacancies because they continue to attack anyone who tries to make a change, and by all means don’t leave any trash behind, they will go through it and dig up any information to try to get you in trouble with any potential late taxes you might have, all in the same breath while asking you to support the town events, (tasting an apple, or eating a strawberry), like those are events. You might try a pie at the Owl something, can’t remember the name, the food is good, but the owner probably should have the pie thrown at her for keeping the town productivity down. Anyway, if you go, theres only one way in and one way out, don’t turn your back, and definetly don’t blink. If you get interviewed by a paper called the Leader, don’t worry, it’s worse than the Star, they can’t write a story truthfully if someone else wrote it for them. It’s called the Leader, but in a one horse town, nobodys in second, and nobody wants to be. Better off going to visit Ste. Geneveive, first, at least the history is honest there.

George Clooney should eat at the best Italian Restaurant which is Vito’s/
He should also visit the best radio station in St. Louis witch is the Point.
I might be a little prejudice here since I have a family member working there
and if Mr. Clooney makes an appearance, I just might get a chance to meet
him.
Of course I would hope he has a chance to visit the Arch, the Science Center,
the best zoo in the nation and our beautiful Forest Park.

Check out Chuck Berry at Blueberry Hill next time he’s there. It’s not an oppotunity that comes every day. Sample all the Fitz’s sodas while he’s there, and then take in one of the best zoos in the country.

8:02 am January 7th, 2009

Mr Clooney, the coolest actor on the planet ( to me anyway) should hang at the Ritz Carlton of course, visit Luminere Place, Take in a Blues Game, visit Union Station, and have dinner at Al’s Steakhouse. Leisurely he should grab some White Castles, or Steak N Shake, or Check out the Art Museum and Forest Park. He definitely needs to take home a gooey butter cake!! Don’t forget the Toasted ravioli’s From Pasta House, and since ice cream was also invented here he must go to Ted Drew’s Frozen Custard, if they are open. Maybe Check out the Bevo mill, for some authentic German Cuisine!! He should check out the Fox Theatre, and then he should meet up with really cool people at the coolest Church in town “St. Louis Family Church”, for worship on Friday evening or Sunday Morning and meet some really cool people, or meet me! Really! I’m a huge fan! So many women really are interested in George’s looks and money, I’m interested in that but really who he is . And by the way George I will escort you if you like stricktly platonic!

Everyone right now has said everything in the city us out in the back woods have many things to offer him as well. Once he has seen the all of the great atractions of our city life he needs to vist masidone park and then have a hike as well. Maybe after he could enjoy a fresh one at o’aces bar and grill. How about fine shopping at our local flea market he has money to burn. I would like to challenge him to a bowling match and i would even buy the first round of beer. O.K Clooney its up to u are u ready….? from one giggling fan

8:35 am January 7th, 2009

Should George want to see a film or two while he’s in town, he can take in an IMAX film at the Saint Louis Science Center’s OMNIMAX Theater or the latest Hollywood product at the Moolah Shrine Theater.

I’d also like to see him as the Grand Marshall of the Mardi Gras parade.

— Mary
8:55 am January 7th, 2009

What fun, visit Chase Park Plaza in CWE, Stay at the Ritz in Clayton and don’t miss the cigar bar, eat anywhere on the Hill, visit Ted Drewes, the Zoo for the best freebie in the world, but most of all, enjoy the best midwest city which is St. Louis. I’m certain Shriners, Childrens and Cardinal Glennon would all appreciate a visit.

The Hill is a must!

— Jason
10:10 am January 7th, 2009

George definitely needs to call me for a tour of St. Charles, he couldn’t help but to love our town. I would chauffeur him all over the city of St. Charles. He needs to know all of the history of our town, how Lewis & Clark met in our town to depart on their expedition, that it’s the place of the First Capitol of the State of Missouri. Next would be a visit to the Academy of the Sacred Heart, founded in 1818, then to the Lewis & Clark Boathouse and finally I would take him to my favorite sports bar/restaurant - Big A’s on Main Street where he could enjoy delicious food and meet some of the nicest people in St. Charles.

I am not sure that my first suggestion was forwarded, so here we go again(technically challenged!!) I live in a little community 60 miles south of St Louis. It is a great place for a getaway…we have 4 charming wineries scattered about the hillside. One of the wineries has a fine restaurant and spa on the premise..it also has condos to lease for the weekend. We could sip wine in the hottub!!! Also, another place worth visiting is Tiger Ridge..a restaurant and beautiful homes to rent for the week or weekend. A designated driver may be needed as the wine in all these places are awesome! If George loves to try wine, and needs a retreat for a day or so, we would be sure to show him a great time…Laurie Ebeling

Grizzly… Mudfest in Robertsville and Party Cove? Is this movie a sequel to “Deliverance?”

1:25 pm January 7th, 2009

I think GC seems like the type of guy who likes to just hang out and relax, none of that pretentious nonsense, he should head out to St. Paul Mo, about 45 minutes west of St. Louis and come out to Dog Prairie tavern and enjoy some of the coldest beer around! VERY nice no frills establishment that also serves a tasty burger and lots of great conversation from the long time owner Gene.

— Cindy
2:36 pm January 7th, 2009

I live alone, so GC is welcome to stay with me and avoid all the groupies and photo seekers. I don’t think they’d look for him in a middle-class county subdivision.

He can use my extra, large master bedroom/bath, have full privacy, and two beautiful dogs he can pet; my home cooking when he gets tired of dining out, and I’ll even do his laundry. He’ll be safe with this almost old woman, and he can hide from the young things chasing him when he gets tired. I’ll give him a list of the cool things to see and do and leave a light on for him until he gets home at night. Is this a great deal, or what???

3:53 pm January 7th, 2009

.. have Georgy get a harmonica .. go down to 1860’s Hardshell Saloon in the Soulard ‘hood on a Sunday night .. and sit in with Jimmy Lee and the Joint Jumpers while Jimmy plays “Dust My Broom” ..

— Scarecrow1
4:41 pm January 7th, 2009

I can think of so many places……..the old watertower, the climatron, the zoo, Crown Candy, the old courthouse, Soulard farmers market. that little bakery that has the most scrumptious cream horns in the world (that is about any bakery in the city)…..Kiel auditorium didn’t Aunt Rosemary sing there at one time? and Grants Farm.
I have not had the chance to see my home town in depth in more than 40 years just a brief visit here and there but this is what I would do if I had a month to spend! I know there is a lot of new places but these seem to endure the test of time.

— Jeanne
7:49 pm January 7th, 2009

Everyone that lives somewhere other than St. Louis probably knows about all the food choices that are only available here. Imo’s pizza, toasted raviolis, and great family owned restaurants around town. One of my favorites is Casa Gallardo, a Mexican restaurant off of Lindbergh Rd. Also, the City Museum would be a great place to go. It’s fun and cool to look at and even though he may not be a 8 year old, I know he will love it. Oh, and love you George!

— Katie Topolski

city museum, is one of the worlds most unique spaces. He could always grab a drink in their cabin, hit some slides, and try to get someone to give him a private tour of the crazy rooftop.

he should no doubt soak in the madness that is CITY MUSEUM.

— ken
9:29 am January 8th, 2009

I think he should try 1) City Museum 2) Magic House (I know he doesn’t have children but it is still a unique part of the city) 3) the restaurants on The Hill; 4) a Blues hockey game; 5) Ameristar and Lumiere (the later being classier, the former being more unique); 6) Historic Main Street in St. Charles; 7) Katy Trail; 8) enjoy the Central West End on Friday or Saturday night; 9) try midnight bowling at one of the bowling alleys with the cool blacklights.

Baseball game if he is still in town in the Spring!

I believe Mr.Clooney should see the Art Musuem, because it is the last building still standing from the 1904 Worlds Fair. Also, The Cahokia Indian Mounds which are over 5,ooo years old. Forest Park which is larger than Central Park in New York City. THe Hill and Giovannis Italian Resturant. Grants Farm and the World famous Clydesdales. He might enjoy a ride along Hwy. 94 into the Missouri Wine Country. A trip up the River Road in Illinois to see the Bald Eagles feeding this time of year. I could go on for hours with unique place to see in the St. Louis area.

Steve M. I can’t disagree with your choice of activities, but I think you’re confusing George Clooney with Hugh Grant. :^)

The one thing first and foremost George should do upon entering our beloved village is not to call it “the Lou.” That should endear him to everyone.

The Hill would be great, but how about the new Olive Garden at the Bluffs,

George should come to the East Side too. He could hit Fast Eddie’s in Alton, especially when Planet Boogie is playing. When he returns back to his hotel in St. Louis, he should definitely check out the St. Louis skyline…..the best in the world…especially on a clear night.

He should go to Filonie’s Thurs of course.
Crown Candy for a treat
Mardi Gras, he should be on a float. imagine the beads.
St. Patrick’s day he needs to go to St. James in Dog Town
He should make a guest appearance for the Bob Costa’s Children’s and Cardinal Glennon fund raiser
Blue berry hill would be a fun place to go visit.
Fast Eddies would also be good time.

He must enjoy a cocktail at an upscale restaruant/lounge,Villa Farottos,in the Chesterfield Valley area. The music starts at 8 and the frequenters swarm to the dance floor. The friendly upbeat people and music will keep him feeling warm and fuzzy.

Knowing that you enjoy the occasional motorcyle ride, I know of a local HD dealership that would loan you a bike while you’re here in St. Louis for those rides to the local establishments around and in the St. Louis/Metro East side area. We have some of the best motorcyling routes in the country including the River Road along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. After riding the bike after your stay you could sign the bike as Jay Leno has done for one of our biggest biking events held in October, the March of Dimes “Bikers for Babies” St. Louis, MO run. The St. Louis area has the best groups of motorcyclists that come together for this one event. Come ride with us if you dare and make a difference to preventing pre-mature birth defects at the same time. What an offer!
