What should George Clooney do while he’s in town?

George Clooney

George Clooney

As we brainstormed this idea in the newsroom, my colleague Amanda St. Amand had a quick answer: George Clooney should visit her house! Put aside the fact that Mandy is married. She’d be happy to send him a MapQuest link to her abode.

But with the hunky movie star coming to town to film Up in the Air, we thought it would be fun to recommend stuff Clooney should be sure to do while he’s in the area. Crews were supposed to start setting up yesterday and production could be going on for about five months.

No idea yet how long Clooney will be in the ‘hood. But let’s assume it’ll be for a few months, on-and-off. Besides the Arch and the brewery tour (which I shared with my brother’s family over Christmas), what else would you recommend?

Oh, and one last thing: If you think this is a dumb topic, keep your thoughts to yourself and go over here, where I’m sure you can find a nice discussion about Iraq, or the banking crisis.

Since Clooney is a classy kind of guy he might want to check out a classy store like Seitz Violins in the Carondelet/Boulevard Hgts neighborhood (Mayor Slay’s new hood). Heck they could even film a scene for the movie here if it works out!

I think he needs to look up anyone that has the same last name. We come from the same county in Ireland.

Some of us are under our married names..so sad.

He should check out our beautiful winerys, and be sure and let me know when he’s going to be there.

We would like to offer George and his staff our country house for a weekend to relax from all the filming, eating, touring, gambling, book reviewing, and fan fare that could make anyone want to get away from it all. It’s only 35 minutes from St. Louis, privately located on 30 acres with a lake, fireplaces and a well stocked wine refrigerator. It’s brand new, surrounded by horse farms and would be a great opportunity to showcase our Missouri countryside. And they could have it totally to themselves over any weekend.

After reading all of the responses about invitations to their homes, I realized it would be rude of me not to invite George to our house for a home cooked meal. I’ve got some Porterhouse Steaks from Shop ‘N Save in the freezer. I could also make bow tie pasta with smoked salmon in a buttercream sauce, buttered Brussels Sprouts with bacon. For dessert we could have homemade Creme Brulee. Then we could (or would have to) visit the fine cardiology center at St. Johns!

I think he should go to Sybergs and have the best wings in town.

I know nothing about George other than he is a good looking celebrity and is a pretty good actor. I hope he enjoys the best, the brightest of our fair region, both STL and Illinois without being mobbed by fans each day. As far as all those fans who want to have him for dinner, what would you talk about after 10 minutes? Some really great ideas for activities in all of these posts, I’ve lived here almost all my life and didn’t know there was so much to enjoy - I hope his people read them all the ideas and he does experience the town, but he won’t be able to enjoy himself at all if he gets mobbed everywhere he goes. I wouldn’t mind being an extra, just to say to my kids “there I am, the one in the middle of the crowd!” and Kurt, I think it would be nice if you found out for us how we go about being extras!

I would suggest checking out downtown’s Central Library. A beautiful 100 year old building, a quiet place to escape the crowds and the set. He can request books online and they will have them waiting for him when he arrives. The perfect place on a cold winter day. Then he wander over to Washington Avenue for something to eat.

When he wants to relax and get away from it all for a while, he should stop by The LIT CIGAR on Big Bend in Webster. Great place to unwind, plus privacy!
