What should George Clooney do while he’s in town?

George Clooney

George Clooney

As we brainstormed this idea in the newsroom, my colleague Amanda St. Amand had a quick answer: George Clooney should visit her house! Put aside the fact that Mandy is married. She’d be happy to send him a MapQuest link to her abode.

But with the hunky movie star coming to town to film Up in the Air, we thought it would be fun to recommend stuff Clooney should be sure to do while he’s in the area. Crews were supposed to start setting up yesterday and production could be going on for about five months.

No idea yet how long Clooney will be in the ‘hood. But let’s assume it’ll be for a few months, on-and-off. Besides the Arch and the brewery tour (which I shared with my brother’s family over Christmas), what else would you recommend?

Oh, and one last thing: If you think this is a dumb topic, keep your thoughts to yourself and go over here, where I’m sure you can find a nice discussion about Iraq, or the banking crisis.

The Loop for all things… well… all things you might not see elsewhere in STL, Central West End and the Landing for the scene, the Hill for food, and Soulard for the food and feel of the place.

Of course he should do all the things that any tourist does in StL. After all that he should definitely check out Iron Barley- probably during the week as there is usually a line to get in on the weekends. Great food, great people, and great atmosphere.

George should check out the live music about town, security in tow, however I realize that is probably not possible given his celebrity. BB’s is one of the best places in STL but he should also stop by Oyster Bar and Venice Cafe. He should probably pick up a Gus’s pretzel, tour the Cherokee antique district and stop at the Taqueria while he’s there. Definitely a show at the Fox and why not Jazz at the Bistro while he’s in that area. He should tour the Cathedral Basilica and check out the mosaics; stop at the Art Museum, and for the finale - experience a St. Louis institution . . . a Jake’s Leg show!

All the suggestions so far are great…but how about visiting some local schools or Cardinal Glennon Childrens hospital? Or help feed the homeless at Sts Peter and Paul Community Services.

I like Hoosiergirl73’s suggestions…but would include a TOUR of the Fabulous Fox maybe before he goes to a show, a TOUR of the Cathedral Basillica (the second largest collection of mosiacs in the world), and go to our Mardi Gras celebration!!! He could dress up and be totally anonymous there without a problem!
