The political debate of our time: Bunnies vs. kittens?

I have been amused for some time now at the ability of some of our online community to twist any topic into the political screed of their choice. Recently, “socialist libs” have been excoriated for their opinions about consumer fraud. “Nazi socialist Republicans” have been taken to task for their bad grammar.

In some cases, I have tried to purge the dialog of pointless and off-topic, needless political rants, which, frankly, are tiresome and shed only heat, not light.

Today, for our Friday Talk of the Day, I thought it would be fun to go the other direction. Again, just for fun! If we can’t keep this in the spirit that’s intended, we’ll close it down.

But your challenge today is to turn this topic into a political debate, if you can.

And the question: Which is cuter? Bunnies or kittens? With bunnies, you get lots of them, and they’re generally pretty harmless except for their propensity to breed. Kittens, while displaying an independent streak and armed with claws they haven’t learned to control, still crave cuddling against a warm body.

Kittens have eyes that penetrate your soul, while bunnies seem to stare right through you. Bunnies have floppy ears. Kittens…well, did we mention the claws?

So which is it?

I know I’m supposed to be reporting breaking news right now, but I have to say — the independent cat is my choice. Since my political persuasion is definitely an independent, it has to be the kittens.

Clearly Kittens. You cannot play with a baby bunny. They just sort of hop around and sit there. Kittens will chase and do all sorts of acrobatics. They also imitate an adult cat which is a cute juxaposition to see a tiny cat stalking like a big cat.

Very nice, slackhawk…but you neglected to turn this into a political debate. That’s the challenge of today’s TOTD. What’s your political angle on the kitten/bunny issue?

Well, it is obvious the kitten is a crazed right-winger. Claws out, looking for a fight, always looking to make a mess of everything, no respect for the individual (ouch! my ankles!) Cats also LIE, they can destroy a plant and spread dirt all around the house and then they will look at you without blinking an eye and pretend they have no idea how that happened. They take NO responsibility for their actions. Bunnies, on the other hand, are pacifists and believe in quietly living their lives without attacking anyone. They have learned that if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. And who can resist that little twitchy nose!

It’s clear to me that baby bunnies slackers. They don’t do anything but make more babies and sit around waiting for someone to give them food and shelter. And the bleeding heart liberals will give them whatever they need.

Kittens, on the other hand, are always learning how to take care of themselves. They learn to hunt so they can feed themselves. Be warned, kittens, one day bleeding heart liberals will take what you have worked for and give it to the lazy bunnies.

i’m tired of the bunnies popping out babies left and right and relying on humans to take care of them. They decry when cats eat them, but the cats are just making sure the population fits the environment. Cats know self-reliance, catch their own food…unlike bunnies who mooch and steal crops and food from other people’s fields as if they are owed food from the man.

Bunnies, having all those babies, would definitely have to be on the public dole. Plus, there was the monster at the cave entrance in the Monty Python movie `In Search of the Holy Grail.’ And we know that whole troupe has to be liberal. So, yes, bunnies would definitely be lazy liberals who would mainly fall to the Democratic side of the aisle.

But kittens, being independent of mind, would also have to be liberal. Everyone knows conservatives are linear thinkers.

It doesn’t matter if you choose Kittens or Bunnies because Obama will take all of the Kittens and Bunnies and distribute them evenly amongst the population. It’s all a socialist, left wing, anti-american plot to destroy the free world and bunnies and kittens are right in the middle of it. I read an article about how when the world trade center fell a sole kitten was found wondering around ground zero. Clearly the kitten was in the middle of the left wing conspiracy aimed to bring down the just Republican leader. And don’t get me started on the bunny that was photographed on the grassy knoll. There are so many details to sort out that it is hard to say which is more guilty, but I can tell you this, it is all Obama’s fault.

Wait a minute, though. I adopted a kitten about a month and a half ago. And I wound up getting one of those lazers for her, for fun. You just shine it on the floor and a cat or a dog will chase it all over the place. But the same happens when I shine it on the floor in a group of conservatives: they chase it all over the place too. So now I’m confused… Maybe kittens really are conservative after all.
