Roman candles
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
The Popemobile (and Pope Benedict XVI) was out and about in Washington, D.C. Did you realize the Weatherbird was driving?
OK, not really. Popemobile trivia time:
- When the pope travels, the Vatican ships a limo built with a bullet-resistant-glass cage to the pope’s destination.
- The car has a gold-trimmed white interior; it matches the pope’s wardrobe. (Can you imagine matching your car to your clothes?)
- The first Popemobile was built after a 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. But no one called it the Popemobile around John Paul II — he said the term was undignified.
Bird line suggestions:
- Roman holiday
- The pope goes to Washington
- Capitol thrill
- Sermon on the hill
- Church and state
