On and off Wall Street, Dow-wow!
Things were looking up on Wall Street yesterday. Of course it’s a wait-and-see kind of game. Still, the Dow Jones industrials gained more than 11 percent — its biggest one-day percentage gain. (The previous record? During the tech boom in 2000.) President Bush will announce some of the details of the bailout this morning; $250 billion of the $700 billion will be used to buy stock in private banks. Meanwhile, members of the House have dueling economic stimulus plans — we’ll have to see how Wall Street reacts to all of this today.
