What’s the plan for the Gateway Arch? Or, more specifically, the ground it sits on.

The National Park Service is open to developing the 91 acres of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, but it’s not clear if it’s really going to happen. (Think museums and attractions, more than roller coasters and malls.)

Let’s vote — on the Bird line and plans for the Arch.

What should the Weatherbird say?

  • Monumental decision (50%, 12 Votes)
  • Arch support (29%, 7 Votes)
  • Grounds for improvement (13%, 3 Votes)
  • Up in the air (4%, 1 Votes)
  • Expansion plans (4%, 1 Votes)

Total Voters: 24

Those who are now proposing “development” of the Arch seem to believe we need another museum on the riverfront. Instead of destroying a greensward which took decades to create, why not an “adaptive re-use” of the unused (or at least under used) buildings in the Laclede’s Landing area?

Yes, we need better pedestrian access to the Arch grounds, but that does not mean we need to take away the grass and trees for yet another building.

As for “not used” - walk out of your office, over to the Arch and see how many are using it every day. It looks a lot different up close than from the 36th floor of the Metropolitan Square building.
