Obama inspired by Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr.
Some say President-elect Barack Obama’s election has the same historical significance as the Emancipation Proclamation, signed by President Abraham Lincoln to free slaves, and the civil rights movement led by Martin Luther King Jr., best known for his “I Have a Dream” speech. Obama is drawing inspiration from both, which will be evident at his inauguration.
Today — Martin Luther King Jr. Day — has been named a National Day of Community Service. Obama, Vice President-elect Joe Biden and their families will participate in community service projects.
After the inauguration tomorrow afternoon, we will print a commemorative extra edition. It will be available after 4 p.m.
