Cardinals second guessing at second base

The Cardinals told second baseman Alex Kennedy to hit the street yesterday. That means the franchise will assume Kennedy’s $4 million salary for the season, and leaves a hole at second base. A press release from the team said Joe Thurston, Brendan Ryan, Brian Barden, Jarrett Hoffpauir, Tyler Greene and outfielder Skip Schumaker are candidates for the spot. The Cardinals said the decision to cut Kennedy was not made solely by manager Tony La Russa, but friction between the two was well known.
