What’s the Bird say about new rules governing day care centers?
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Some child care advocates think Missouri’s rules covering day care centers are outdated and put youngsters at risk. The director of child care regulation for the Missouri Department of Social Services is among them — and she has just proposed a slew of changes.
Among them:
- A new rule requiring head counts.
- Increased staff on field trips.
- More training in early childhood development.
- More stringent employee background checks.
- Updated safety regulations covering everything from safe sleep practices to outdoor sun exposure.
