Will the Tour of Missouri pass the Weatherbird by?
The Tour of Missouri finds itself in jeopardy of being canceled because the state has cut its $1.5 million in funding for the popular event, Kathleen Nelson of the Post-Dispatch reports on her blog.
The professional bike race that winds through the state is scheduled to start Sept. 7 in St. Louis and end Sept. 13 in Kansas City. Among the teams committed to this year’s event is the one for which seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong rides. The race drew more than 250,000 spectators last year. An economic analysis funded by the state found that spectators spent $30 million during the event. Will the Tour of Missouri pass the Weatherbird by? Total Voters: 52
