John Mayer packed them into Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Thursday on the second stop of his new tour, which drew more than 13,000 fans.

The show was a memorable one, from what Mayer did with his “No Such Thing” and “Why Georgia”; his blues detour; his messing with the media; and the fact his girlfriend Jennifer Aniston was hanging out in the wings.

Country stars Vince Gill and Merle Haggard are coming to the Rickman Auditorium in Arnold in separate shows.

Haggard will perform at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5. Tickets are $30-$40, on sale now through Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com, and 314-241-1888.

Gill is expected to perform Sept. 19, according to his new concert schedule released this week. Ticket information on Gill’s show is not yet available.

Gentleman Auction House, easily one of the more buzzworthy bands on the local music scene, is at long last releasing its debut full-length disc, “Alphabet Graveyard.”

The CD release party is at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Bluebird, 6709 Olive. The CD won’t be officially released until July 22, but fans can pick it up at the CD release party for $2 cheaper than the retail price.

“Alphabet Graveyard” was recorded in Washington, D.C. in October.

Also on the bill are Hibernauts, Colourmusic, and Jumbling Towers. Admission is $8.

Rapper Nas’ July 18 concert at the Pageant has been postponed.

The concert will now take place Sept. 3, with added support from Talib Kweli and Jay Electronica.

Rock band Filter announced additional tour dates this week, and they include an Aug. 12 show at Pop’s.

And it’s kicking things off big with seven nights of concerts under the banner 7 Days of Praise.

Kenny DeShields and Teresa Jenee are Friday, followed by Daphne Rice-Bruce and J.R. on Saturday, Leslie Johnson on Sunday, Jessie Prather on Monday, Charity Caldwell featuring the Dan Drake Duo on Tuesday, Curtis Finch on Wednesday, and a comedy show with a special invited guest on Thursday, July 10.

An altercation between Vans Warped Tour headliner Gym Class Heroes and a concert-goer at the tour’s Tuesday stop at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights led to the arrest of the rock band’s singer Travis McCoy, according to reports.

McCoy was arrested for third degree assault after hitting an audience member with a microphone. The audience member was reportedly making racial slurs toward McCoy during the band’s set.

McCoy and the audience member are both African-American.

McCoy apologized for the incident immediately. “I’m sorry. But when someone calls you something that ignorant and that offensive, you have to bash their head in with a microphone.”

According to MTV, McCoy was released Wednesday morning on a $500 bond. It’s unknown when he’ll return to Maryland Heights to answer to the charge.

Gym Class Heroes manager Bob McLynn released a statement late Wednesday:

“Somebody in the crowd was taunting Travis with racial slurs. Travis invited him onstage with the intent of calling him out in front of the crowd, with absolutely no intention of a physical altercation. When he tried to help him onstage, the guy hit Travis in the knee area (which has been in a brace because of a recent sprain), forcing Travis to defend himself. At this point, a scuffle broke out.

“This whole incident is unfortunate. Travis McCoy and Gym Class Heroes are anything but violent. Their message is about racial unity and having a good time. It’s amazing that in 2008, there are still people out there that would say such ignorant things. Travis is deeply upset that this happened. GCH is putting this behind them and looks forward to seeing everyone on the rest of the tour.”

The Cabaret at Savor is no more.

The super-intimate venue, which opened Oct. 2006 in Savor restaurant in the Central West End, closed Saturday after a run that included some of the top names in Manhattan cabaret including Steve Ross, Maude Maggart, Paula West, Eric Comstock, Craig Rubano, and many others.

A number of St. Louis cabaret and musical theater artists headlined there as well.

Jim Dolan, producer at the Cabaret at Savor, said in a statement: “It’s a loss for me personally and for all here who love cabaret. The room was a terrific cabaret space, and both the singers and the audiences liked its elegance and cozy design.”

He says he learned 48 hours prior to the closing that the restaurant, at 4356 Lindell Boulevard, was being shuttered.

“I have been working with the building owners to keep the cabaret space upstairs open, but at this time that appears not to be an option.,” he says.

He’s hoping to announce a new space soon.

When Tim McGraw’s Live Your Voice tour comes to Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Friday night, we trust he won’t have to deal with any unruly fans the way he did in Auburn, Wash., last month.

We know there aren’t any unruly music fans in St. Louis, right?
