Blues artist Sean Costello, a frequent St. Louis concert club performer, dies

Sean Costello, an Atlanta-based blues guitarist well-known to patrons of Beale on Broadway, BBs Jazz, Blues & Soups, and Broadway Oyster Bar, died Tuesday in an Atlanta hotel room, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

His booking agency, Piedmont Talent, confirmed his death, the cause of which is unknown.

Costello’s death was one day shy of his 29th birthday on Wednesday.

Beale on Broadway’s Bud Jostes said “I can’t say enough what an incredible guitar player he was. We always looked forward to his shows here at the club. What a waste.”

Costello was scheduled to perform at Beale on Broadway next month.

His “We Can Get Together” CD was released in February.

Dang!!!!!!!! What a shock.
I saw Sean a few years ago at Ameristar. He put on a great show. I bought his cd and saw him walking out of the casino about 2am. I told him I loved the show and how great he played the guitar. He was real nice and took the time to talk to me.
I am sad to hear this.

We first saw Sean at the St. Louis Blues Festival when he was only about 16 or 17. He was on a side stage, had driven all night with his band (three other guys) just to get there. Luckily we were in the right place at the right time - this skinny kid with a pompadour, wearing a bowling shirt started to play just as we walked by and blew us away. And we weren’t the only ones. The crowd kept growing and before long no one would let him off the stage. The main act was a little tiffed but what could they do? It was one of those moments. We’ve followed Sean ever since, trying to catch him whenever he was in town. Always gracious, signing his CD’s for us, having a bit to say. Once we went to see him two nights in a row at the AmeriStar Casino - this was not his favorite place to play. The second night was a private party for some Olympic hopefuls who didn’t have a clue about the Blues and what he was playing. Took us a lot of talking to get in the door - little sob story about driving so far etc. So glad we did - they appreciated the support, I’m sure. Sat with us during the breaks. Good memories. Great musician. We’re feeiing real blue, Sean.
