Coldplay’s disappearing act at Scottrade Center

coldplay2.jpg

Call it the case of the disappearing Coldplay.

For at least a week, a concert from the hot rockers was listed on Ticketmaster’s web site, detailing a 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15 Coldplay concert at Scottrade Center with $47-$95 tickets going on sale at 10 a.m. June 28.

Now, however, the Ticketmaster listing has vanished.

A newly-updated Coldplay tour schedule released Tuesday did not include St. Louis, or any show, for Nov. 15, though there are shows Nov. 13 in Kansas City, Nov. 14 in St. Paul , and Nov. 16 in Oklahoma City.

The show was never listed on Scottrade Center’s web site, and local concert producers never announced the show.

None of this bodes well for Coldplay’s fans here. The bottom line is to not look forward to a local date. But presumably, those St. Louis fans can still purchase Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” when its released Tuesday.

Why do we keep missing out on concerts??

Coldplay sucks. We should be more concerned about losing the mid-level concerts…like the 300-1000 person shows…thats how you build a good music scene. We must be one of the last in the country when it comes to getting good shows.

I have to second what James says after the Coldplay sucks comment. I am by no means a Coldplay fan, but everyone has their own tastes therefore we shouldn’t really be that harsh. But he hit it right on the head by stating that we need more smaller shows in town. I have travelled across the country and there is almost always some kind of show to see while I am visiting. St. Louis is very hit and miss when it comes to up and coming national acts. I think the biggest problem is the local radio stations playing the same regurgitated corportate fed crap over and over and over and over and over and over…. For example, when was the last time you heard a NOFX song on the radio? No wonder great bands like that don’t play St. Louis, St. Louis don’t play them.

Who the hell wants to sit in that cow pasture anyway, The acoustics are comparable to a distant freight whistle. What a sewer. Music is supposed to be an intimate sound experience and it don’t happen there. I prefer the smaller venues where there is some interaction. James is right on - the 300-1000 person shows are what matters.
