Nelly has a real musical history with high-end sneakers, going back a few years with his “Air Force Ones” hit.

His latest is “Stepped on My J’s,” a song and video featuring singer Ciara and producer/rapper Jermaine Dupri that premiered on BET’s “Access Granted” Wednesday night.

The video, directed by Benny Boom, nicely pays homages to Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” movie, as well as a classic commercial for Michael Jordan’s Nike sneakers that starred Lee and Jordan. Dupri humorously portrays Lee in the new video.

“Stepped on My J’s” follows the Fergie-assisted “Party People,” both from Nelly’s upcoming “Brass Knuckles” CD.

Nelly is one of the performers at the BET Awards June 24.

Nelly wins the award for unoriginality…what’s next, he’ll be rhyming about shell toe adidas??? Come on Nelly, get back to creating great music instead of all these gimmicks!!! That other song with Fergie was a joke! Where’s that classic “E.I” material, lets go homie!

The track is hot. But seriously. Who really wants to hear about a guy who is almost mid 30’s rapping about some shoes. If this song had come out like 10 years ago this would be my joint. The video is cool. But man what is going on with music, seriously. He is too old to be rapping about this. And honestly it just gives teenagers or kids who look up to Nelly and other artist a really bad way in thinking that grown men even act like little kids when someone steps on their shoes. What kid in the hood can afford a pair of 500.00 shoes. THEY CAN’T. And if they do buy them, they shouldn’t be. priorities are messed up. Nelly could’ve came better than this. More of a grown man type vibe.

Cute video - fun song. JD playing Mookie is really funny seeing they are about the same size! LOL! Ciara could have stayed home tho. Not only does she bring wack hoochi-mama-ness to the video, she jacks up the song too.

I liked the vibe that the video has and the track is on point. My wife and I are both 30-something college graduates and we both enjoyed the “Access Granted” piece and the throwback Spike Lee classics. As far as someone complaining about him being to old to make a song about shoes and the prices that they cost, please take all things in context. I might not buy expensive sneakers like I used to but I still put them back in the box when I am done wearing them because I want them to be “fresh” the next time I wear them. Lastly, let’s be serious, those that are complaining about his age, please look at your car radio system and tell me what you have programmed, I will bet the first two are hip-hop/r&b stations. It would be safe to say that those talking about age are not listening to old Run-Dmc & Whodini albums, I would say that they are being slightly hypocritical. Keep representing Nelly and this 30-something will keep listening as long as it’s fresh and new and I think you achieved that with this song.
