Smashing Pumpkins in St. Louis? Wait and see
The concert gods haven’t been too generous the last few months, with Coldplay, Tina Turner, Madonna, Jay-Z/Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, and Janet Jackson leaving St. Louis off their schedules.
Let’s hope Smashing Pumpkins aren’t added to that hateful list.
The esteemed rock band just announced their 20th anniversary tour will hit select U.S. cities beginning in August, with an Aug. 9 date scheduled for Hammond, Ind., (where?), the only date listed so far.
New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles have been named as other cities that’ll get the tour, with the rest of the cities to be named later.
Can’t you just see Smashing Pumpkins stopping through the Fox Theatre, Chaifetz Arena, or Scottrade Center?
Let’s hope this one doesn’t slip through our fingers too.

Kevin C. Johnson has covered the St. Louis' music and nightlife scene for the past decade.
Hammond is their first Chicago date. Get a clue
Their 20th anniversary show without James or D’arcy….that is stupid.
Without D’arcy or James, there’s no real reason to see Pumpkins.
people were upset that
Coldplay, Tina Turner, Madonna, Jay-Z/Mary J. Blige, and Janet Jackson skipped st. louis?
sounds like we lucked out
Saw them in October and didn’t miss James or D’arcy. Don’t miss this show if we are lucky enough to get it.
Last time I saw them was at Lollapalooza in the 90’s. They blew.
Billy was mad because the Beastie Boys rocked the place and the crowd took a breather during Pumpkins’ mediocre set.
I wouldn’t waste my time on them.
People should be upset that we get absolutely NO good indie concerts in this area! Indie kids create a scene and a thriving music city. Not getting Madonna and Coldplay means absolutely nothing. Bluebird is alright but its too hard to find and a little too small. Someone please build a new venue and get good shows here!
No good Indie concerts? Ladytron, the New Pornographers,Modest Mouse, and just this July 15th Film School will be at the Blue Bird. Not to mention A Place to Bury Strangers will be back after one visit earlier to open for NIN.
I guess what you mean by Indie bands is a bit different from mine.
KC, Louisville, Minneapolis, Indianapolis all have better concerts than us. Of course we get a couple of good indie rock shows every once in awhile, but nothing compared to similar sized cities. We suck, stop trying to sugar coat it.
Not coming to St. Louis, who cares? If this were 1993 and the Siamese Dream tour skipped STL I would be mad. Ever since Corgan sold out with “Adore” I have lost all respect for him along with my desire to see his band live. On top of all that, he’s a Cubs fan.
