The Grove hotspot rBar closing for regrouping

Nightclub rBar, one of the highlights of the growing Grove area that also includes Atomic Cowboy and the Gramophone, is closing on Aug. 10, but thankfully not for good (we hate closings).

The spot, at 4054 Chouteau Avenue, is going through changes, with some of the original partners moving on. A newly refocused rBar will reopen in a few weeks with some renovations and a new concept. It may become more of a lounge.

Aug. 9 is the date of an Alive magazine blowout, the White Hot Party #2, celebrating the end of the rBar as we know it. Leading up to the closing will be a number of food and drink specials.

Atomic Cowboy?

This place used to be cool, until the genius of an owner decided to start busing in loads of baseball hat wearing jocko’s from neighboring schools. Now the place is just another Hotshots. The staff as well used to be cutting edge… no longer the case. This place is a has been.

The Cowboy has lost some of its lustre, but “loads of baseball hat wearing jockos”????? That is a complete joke because the ethnic and sexual orientation diversity of the area are complete anethma to jocks. You are much more likely to see hip 30-50 y.o.’s and WASU Law / BJC Med students. The Young Professionals of St. Louis meet there sometimes for God’s sake. If you ever see “jocko’s” it’s because they got lost heading out of downtown after a cards game. Not sure what axe ken has to grind but he is way off mark on this one.

I look forward to see the reincarnation of the rBar. I’d been in a couple of times, and the atmosphere actually made me feel like it should’ve been a lounge bar, so I think they’re definitely on the right track with that. Let’s just hope that they do it right!
